For East Coast Trains staff, joining the company means joining a tight-knit family. More like brothers than coworkers, chef Mark and crew leader Nigel cater to first-class passengers on the early morning “porridge express” to London. Meanwhile, at York Station, customer services assistant Liam begins training for his new role dispatching trains. Along with his fellow apprentices, he has one week to master the skills he needs. And then, with his mentor by his side, Liam is finally put to the test. Having survived cancer with help from her East Coast family, veteran customer services assistant Michelle proves she has the on board shop under control. From Leeds to London, rookie train guard Dan faces the examiner. And after proving his mettle, confidently undertakes his first official mission. Headed for one of London’s biggest salsa clubs, a troupe of performers celebrates with an impromptu platform performance.
