Poet Laureate Simon Armitage is premiering new works in Barnsley as the culmination of a major arts project.
Simon, who has just written a special poem to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth, has been poet in residence for a High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) project which aims to transform the Eldon Street area of the town.
The performance of his new collection of poems and lyrics titled ‘Barnsley – An Unnatural History’, will be with his band LYR on September 23. The works are inspired by Simon’s time uncovering the history of Eldon Street, which has been an important gateway into the town since the 1850s.
