Vladimir Putin recently said that Ukraine has been an integral part of Russia forever, and both countries have centuries-old ties. And with the Russia-Ukraine war in front, there have been numerous debates and discussions on the past and present Russia-Ukraine relations.

So, did Russia create the modern Ukraine? (as claimed by Putin) Have Ukraine and Russia never existed separately in the history? Are Russians and Ukrainians the same people, just divided because of the fall of the USSR, or are they different? If they are different, how different Are Russians and Ukrainians? Although, both the countries have 62% lexical similarity, which shows that in history they shared the same geographical and cultural boundaries, but that does that make them the same?

With industrialization, collectivization, famine and communism, Russia Ukraine conflict has been going on for a long time. And what happened to Soviet Ukraine from 1932-1933 has literally led to major cracks appearing between the two countries.

The country which was known as the breadbasket of Europe had to suffer from the Holodomor, where millions of Ukrainians suffered death by starvation . But what was the Holodomor? What caused the Holodomor? Was the Holodomor an artificial famine? Or was this Ukraine Holodomor a genocide, a mere method of Russification of Ukraine?
