Work is expected to be completed next year on two major football hubs being built in parts of Wigan with more than their share of economic and social ills. The project is backed by an investment of nearly £5m from Wigan Council and £8m from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation. Identified in Wigan’s Local Football Facility Plan as priority projects, the two new hubs will be home to state-of-the-art facilities at William Fosters Playing Fields in Ince and Laithwaite Park in Worsley Hall. Combined, the sites will serve thousands of children, young people, adults and elderly residents from across the region.
