Shri Jagannatha Temple is located near Kidderpore Tram Depot within the compound of East Yard Kolkata Port Trust. The present temple built in the style of Puri temple is the result of years of hard work and financial assistance of many devotees. Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannatha, Shri Balabhadra, Devi Shubhdra and Sudarshan Chakra are worshipped daily keeping with the tradition and rituals observed at Puri. Various Puja-Parvana associated with the Lords are also observed round the year. Devotees who come to the shrine get Mahaprasad in the temple and can also take home for their friends and relatives. People who reside in the city of Kolkata and the suburbs come in hordes to have darshan of the Lord in Chariot. This sacred place has come to be popularly known as Srikhetra or Jagannath Dham of Kolkata.

Lord Jagannath loves all dishes of dairy and the gods share a beautiful bond with their sweet tooth. For ages the Jagannath temple has played a tremendous role in nurturing the local cuisines and keeping the local culinary culture alive. For the people of Odisha, getting to savour Mahaprabhu’s Chhappan Bhog is nothing less than a blessing.

Making Chappan Bhog (56 dishes) is definitely not an easy task. But it is believed that Goddess Laxmi supervises the meal and assures that it is prepared with the utmost devotion and care. The temple kitchen has got the capacity to cook for ten thousand people each day. Mahaprasad is cooked only in earthen pots and the medium of food is fire and wood only. There are 30 cooks who cook varieties of rice, vegetables, and sweets for Lord Jagannath. The beauty of the Mahaprasad is it does not spoil even if retained for a long period of time and it remains hot for a long time. This Mahaprasad is allowed to be consumed by people of all castes and creeds without any discrimination.
