It was a night to remember in New York City when Hollywood stars crossed paths with the top American fashion designers on the night that honored the best in fashion, promoting industry diversity, creativity, taking into account climate change and to take a look into the future.
International affairs reporter Jillian Wolf was on the red carpet and tells us the awards were meaningful and will have a long lasting effect motivating the CFDA members to continue on their path to promote American fashion.
In a changing social and political climate, the CFDA introduced an award that aimed to recognize those who work for positive changes within the fashion community. The Positive Social Influence Award was presented to the collective called The Slaysians. It is composed of Laura Kim, co-creative director of Oscar de la Renta and Monse, Phillip Lim and Prabal Gurung who both have their eponymous fashion collections, the restaurateur Ezra Williams, and stylist and influencer Tina Leung. This group of friends are advocates of the “Stop Asian Hate” movement.
There were also two inaugural awards at the star studded ceremony. Law Roach accepted the Stylist Award in a dramatic black and white polka dot opera coat. His stylistic influence is closely tied with Zendaya’s meteoric fashion rise. The Innovation Award went to Kim Kardashian and her co-founders of shapewear brand Skims, Jens and Emma Grede.
