Watch the amazing wild Parakeets of Dawsholm Park in Glasgow

  • last year
Many ringneck parakeets have established residences in the city of Glasgow.

The colourful parrots, look more at home in a jungle or rainforest than in the Dawsholm Woods, where they have been seen breeding. It has been estimated that over 50 parakeets have made home in the popular park.

They are thought to have started a breeding colony in Victoria Park a number of years ago and then expanded out to other parts of the city and the suburbs.

The birds have been spotted as far north as Aberdeen.

Many visitors to the park bring fresh fruit and nuts to feed the birds and they have become a real attraction for birders, dog walkers and park goers alike.

These adaptable birds with their beautiful green feathers and coral beak have made Glasgow their home and our lives just got that bit more colourful.
