After the Second World War, a little girl in Bergen, Norway, experiences growing up. The war's aftereffects are still being felt in 1948, with the prosecution of war criminals, the reconstruction of Europe after the war, and the American invasion of the region's economy and culture. Through the eyes of this 7-year-old girl, we experience the struggles of the local working class on a daily basis. Acknowledge Kamilla and Svein have grown up despite all the stress. Kamilla is the daughter of a failed factory owner who made a living as a shoemaker while harboring aspirations of starting over successfully in North America. Svein is a kid from the working class. Together, they go through violent break-ups of houses, child abuse, humiliating social and emotional situations, and violence. Together, they cultivate the love and unity that absent from both homes. They fight a lost battle against the adults' nonchalance, coldness, apathy, and selfishness because they lack resources and power.
The movie is the basic depiction of the surroundings in a unique area of Norway as experienced by kids who have never known what it's like to be the target of parental love.
