00:00 And a big, big crash here in this group, in this chasing group, and the only rider to avoid it, Romi Casper.
00:10 Welcome to the third edition of Paris-Roubaix FAM of Ex-Zwift.
00:16 Trek-Segafredo are going for a hat-trick this year, having won with Lizzie Dagenham in '21 and Elisa Longo Borghini in '22.
00:23 The Italian is back to defend her title, and despite a recent bout of Covid, she finished third at last week's Tour of Flanders.
00:30 I'm quite alright. Not in my best shape, but still OK to help the team and to also do something for myself.
00:41 SD Works look like the team to beat, having dominated the classics.
00:45 Last year's runner-up Lotta Capecchi is chasing a prestigious double after winning in Flanders.
00:50 It's really hard to predict this race. A lot of things can happen.
00:54 You can make a plan, but then if you have flat-tired at the wrong moment, then your plan is gone.
00:59 So, yeah, we have kind of a plan for the first half of the race, and then we see what the situation is.
01:04 And then I think we all should race on instinct today.
01:07 And there are plenty of other hopefuls ready to get stuck into the hell of the north,
01:12 such as Canyon Tram's Elie Chabet, who was fourth last year.
01:17 I wouldn't say it's a pleasure all the way, but when you get to the finish line,
01:22 it's a pleasure and you win, no matter what happens.
01:25 After a rollercoaster few months, which included suffering a stroke in September,
01:29 French champion Audrey Cordon-Ragot is here with her new team, Human Powered Health.
01:34 It's a lot of emotion.
01:37 Now I'm someone who can do the part, so once the start is given, it's going to be better.
01:42 If you don't take pleasure, you can't win.
01:44 You have to kiss the pavé and they'll give it to you at 200%.
01:48 That's what I'm going to do.
01:48 The riders will cover the same 17 cobbled sectors as last year, a total of 29.2 kilometres.
01:55 They include the five star sectors of Mont-Saint-Pavel and Carrefour de l'Arbre.
01:59 The race is also slightly longer with an extra 20 kilometres or so after the start in Dénin.
02:04 There's no rain forecast today like in '21, but it's not as dry as 2022.
02:09 The riders will have to watch out for some slippery cobbles
02:12 after heavy showers earlier in the week.
02:14 18 women fought their way into the breakaway,
02:21 building a significant lead of five and a half minutes before the first cobbled sector.
02:25 Most of the top teams had a rider in there, including Trek-Segafredo,
02:29 SD Works and Canyon-SRAM, but Jumbo-Visma missed the move.
02:33 And their leader, Marianne Vos, then had some untimely mechanical issues
02:37 facing a tough chase to get back.
02:42 At the front, Vos' young compatriot,
02:44 Danique Hengeveld, went solo for DSM,
02:46 filling around 25 seconds clear of her fellow escapees.
02:50 She still had over five minutes on the main bunch.
02:53 While the peloton no doubt sensed it was time to start closing the gap,
02:58 as Italian champion Elisa Balsamo hit the front for Trek-Segafredo,
03:02 Vos still plugging away.
03:04 Heading on to sector 12, Hengeveld still had a small gap on the rest of the breakaway,
03:09 while the main peloton was slowly being whittled down, with Vos still 40 seconds behind.
03:14 And the bunch was completely blown apart when Capecchi suddenly upped the tempo
03:20 and as the other favourites scrambled to get on her wheel,
03:22 there was a minor crash behind.
03:24 The Belgian was nevertheless joined by Longo Borghini,
03:28 Giorgi, Chabbi, Mackay and Brand.
03:31 A few kilometres later, Hengeveld was caught by the rest of the break,
03:39 the group of favourites containing Capecchi were now within three minutes.
03:42 Vos though looking set for more disappointment after missing last year's edition
03:46 due to a positive Covid test, the Dutch legend almost four minutes in arrears.
03:51 But there was to be a big twist on sector nine as Longo Borghini lost her wheel
03:56 and went to ground, taking almost all of the other favourites with her.
03:59 A huge pile up this, with only Romy Kasper managing to stay upright,
04:04 the German pushing on as other big hitters like Capecchi were forced to regroup.
04:10 With 33km to go, Kasper tried to break away by over two minutes,
04:14 the rest of the favourites trying to fight their way back.
04:17 But little by little, they got themselves organised and by the Carrefour de l'Arbre,
04:23 a group of nearly 20 riders were within one minute of the leaders.
04:26 The indefatigable Vos had even managed to haul herself back into the chase group
04:31 along with Capecchi.
04:35 And the race was really on now between these chasers and the breakaway.
04:39 Just at ten seconds, the gap as they embarked on the penultimate sector
04:46 and the writing looked to be on the wall for that front seven.
04:49 But the Escapees got a second wind on the road to Roubaix,
04:52 with Addison Jackson in pink urging them on in the closing kilometres.
04:56 This one going down to the wire and ultimately none of the favourites
05:01 decided to really take up the chase.
05:03 The magnificent seven up at the front were set to duke it out
05:06 in cycling's most famous velodrome.
05:08 On the front is Lack.
05:15 Is it going to be Marion Boras on the other side?
05:18 Alison Jackson, the sprint starts.
05:21 It is Marion Boras on the front for the small team of Saint-Michel.
05:25 Alison Jackson of EF Education.
05:29 Silicon Valley Bank.
05:31 Alison Jackson, the Canadian firing away for the finish.
05:36 Is she going to do it?
05:38 She does. Alison Jackson wins Paris-Roubaix.
05:42 Fama Vixwit.
05:43 What a sensational end to this third edition and what a win for Alison Jackson.
05:49 It's always great to see the breakaway go all the way.
05:51 But when it happens in a race like Paris-Roubaix, it's very special indeed.
05:55 The 34 year old Canadian taking her eighth victory
05:59 and assuredly the biggest of her career.
06:01 It's a. Yeah, I mean,
06:06 we when we did the pre-ride and we rode around this velodrome
06:09 and I just dream of winning.
06:12 But a lot of times those dreams just stay dreams.
06:14 And it's unreal to make it happen in real life.
06:19 So I have few words.
06:23 Italy's Katja Ragusa and Mark Trujan of Belgium
06:28 rounding out a podium that nobody would have predicted this morning
06:31 with seventh place Capecchi leading in the favorites at 12 seconds.
06:35 But the day's big winner was Ali Action Jackson,
06:39 who celebrated in style on the podium.
06:41 That's now three different winners in three editions of Paris-Roubaix.
06:44 Fama Vixwit. And this one was an absolute thriller.
06:47 Thanks for watching.
06:49 And join us again on Sunday for the men's race.
