The Iron Throne is a fitting way to tease House of the Dragon season 2 because of its focus on the rightful ruler of Westeros. House of the Dragon season 1, episode 9 saw Alicent help her son with Viserys Targaryen, Aegon Targaryen, become ruler of the Seven Kingdom after misinterpreting Viserys' dying words. This action challenges Rhaenyra's place on the Throne, which was promised to her by her father long before his death.

While Rhaenyra was against the idea of going to war in season 1, episode 10, the final shot of her grieving, vengeful face following Lucerys' death indicates she won't forgive Aemond for killing her son. The tragic event will act as a major catalyst for the Dance of the Dragons, which itself will wage a blood-soaked war across Westeros. With season 2 possibly having only 8 episodes compared to season 1's 10-episode count, the series of events is likely to be tight and engaging throughout.
