00:00 The creation of a G20 for peace in Ukraine. It's an initiative put forward by Brazil's
00:05 president. On a trip to Abu Dhabi to visit Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Lula da Silva presented
00:11 himself as a mediator in the conflict.
00:16 Yesterday I talked to the Sheikh about the war. I talked to Xi Jinping about the war.
00:22 I think we are finding a set of people who would rather talk peace than war. I think
00:28 it's going to work out.
00:31 Before visiting the United Arab Emirates, Lula was in China, where Ukraine was also
00:35 on the agenda. The Brazilian president has been known to say Moscow and Kiev bear equal
00:40 responsibility for the war. And with that, he's not hesitated to criticise the United
00:45 States and the European Union for their military support of Ukraine.
00:50 The United States needs to stop encouraging war and start talking about peace. The European
00:57 Union needs to start talking about peace so that we can convince Putin and Zelensky that
01:02 peace is in the interest of the whole world.
01:06 His aim is to form a group of countries that have so far stayed neutral in the conflict
01:10 to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine.
01:14 But Brazil has a privileged relationship with Russia as a fellow BRICS nation - a partnership
01:19 that also includes China, India and South Africa, who have all stopped short of condemning
01:23 Russia's invasion. Earlier this month, Lula even suggested Ukraine should give up the
01:29 Crimean peninsula, which was illegally annexed by Russia in 2014.
