00:00 Even though they haven't studied it as extensively as humans have,
00:03 creatures of the wild largely respect the food chain. When predators do their preying,
00:09 prey do their running. It is a natural happening that rarely ever gets disturbed.
00:14 However, the key word here is "rarely" because sometimes that order gets disrupted.
00:21 And that disruption is what this video is about.
00:25 So let's look at 10 times predators became prey while hunting.
00:30 Number 10. Cape buffalo vs lion.
00:32 Buffalos are one of the largest cattle species in the world. They can weigh up to 1000 kilograms.
00:39 But for some reason, lions still like to prey on them. The trick is for them to hunt in packs
00:46 and then chase a pack of buffalos till they can find the weak link. However, this time around,
00:52 one lion decided to do a solo hunt. Bad idea. So this lion found a lone buffalo and was already
01:00 sinking its teeth into said buffalo when two other buffalos came to the rescue. In anger,
01:07 one of the savior buffalos lifted the lion with its powerful horns and threw it down twice. If
01:14 that lion survived, it won't ever forget that experience.
01:17 Number 9. Hippopotamus vs lion.
01:21 A hippo vs lion face-off is not something that happens very often. And this is because while
01:27 the lion is clearly the predator, they typically do not go after hippos as hippos are huge and have
01:33 a very strong jaw. However, in the off chance that both animals meet, the lion sometimes has
01:40 the upper hand. But this time around, the hippo wasn't having it. So this hippo was going on its
01:46 merry way sometime alone at night, which was a mistake, by the way. Prey are usually safer when
01:53 they are together. Anyway, a couple of lions saw this lone hippo and decided to attack.
01:59 The smart hippo, though, ran and hid itself in the water. You'd think the story ends there,
02:05 but it doesn't. The very next morning, the hippo was out for blood. It came out of the water,
02:12 approached the first lonesome lion it saw and caught that lion in its powerful jaws.
02:17 And that's the end of the story, at least for that lion.
02:21 Number 8. Honey badger vs python.
02:24 Honey badgers are really hilarious in their fearlessness. They are small creatures that
02:29 like to confront large animals for the fun of it. And somehow they managed to get away with it,
02:35 most of the time. This one time, a honey badger was caught by a python.
02:41 Whether or not the honey badger started the confrontation, we do not know. But it was caught
02:46 by a python. The python, like pythons are known to do, tried to suffocate the honey badger. However,
02:53 the honey badger escaped. But instead of running away to celebrate its escape,
02:58 this troublesome honey badger turned on the python and tried to attack it. Then again,
03:04 if you could, wouldn't you try to get back at an enemy?
03:06 Number 7. Wildebeest vs lion.
03:10 We can all conclude that lions are really troublesome. They make a habit out of biting
03:15 off more than they can chew. Wildebeest, on the other hand, are not totally defenseless.
03:20 They might be brave, but they are solidly built and have a pair of sharp horns that they are not
03:26 afraid to use. This one time, two lions were trying to make a meal out of one wildebeest,
03:31 but they got what they did not bargain for. The wildebeest was not willing to go down just like
03:37 that, and so it shook off the murderous lions. When the wildebeest got one of them off, it went
03:42 ahead to lift the lion and drop it using its powerful horns. As for the second lion, a few
03:48 more vigorous movements dislodged it, and both lions eventually ran for dear life. Victory to
03:55 the prey! Number 6. Warthog vs leopard.
03:59 This is another face-off that rarely ever happens, and it's because of the mutual respect
04:04 that the warthog and the leopard have for each other. However, every once in a while, a leopard
04:10 would go after an unprotected piglet, as that would be an easier kill. This time around, though,
04:16 it wasn't going to be an easy kill for the leopard. It did its work quite alright,
04:20 setting a proper ambush and waiting for the right time. However, right as it pounced on the piglet
04:26 going for the kill, a clearly pissed-off warthog came and threw the leopard off the piglet.
04:32 Fortunately for the leopard, warthogs are vegetarians.
04:36 Number 5. Zebra vs lion.
04:39 Zebras seem to be the preferred choice of prey for a couple of predators,
04:43 and lions are not left out of this. However, zebras aren't defenseless. Their hind limbs can
04:49 administer a really powerful kick, and they are not afraid of using them. This one time,
04:54 a lion went after a baby zebra, thinking it was going to have an easy meal. The baby's mom came
05:00 to the rescue, though, delivering a precise and very powerful kick that destabilized the lion.
05:05 The smart zebra didn't wait to see what the fate of the lion was. It picked up its baby and ran.
05:12 Number 4. Gazelle vs cheetah.
05:14 Like zebras, gazelles also seem to be a preferred prey for predators. This is probably why they live
05:20 in large groups. In fact, they had this system where a couple of them serve as watchdogs and
05:26 alert the others when danger is near. Gazelles are also one of the fastest land animals around,
05:32 faster than almost all their predators. Unfortunately, there is a predator that
05:37 runs faster, and that is the cheetah. But that certainly doesn't mean that gazelles
05:43 are defenseless against cheetahs. This one time, a cheetah went after the lonesome gazelle,
05:49 hoping to score a good meal that day. However, the gazelle was not having it.
05:55 With all the rage and fear it could muster, the gazelle grabbed the cheetah in a corn lot
06:00 and continued running as fast as it could, pushing the cheetah on the ground between its horns.
06:06 Whether or not the cheetah survived cannot be known.
06:08 Number 3. Crocodile vs lion.
06:12 When it comes to the crocodile and the lion, it is difficult to say who is the predator and who
06:17 is the predator. The lion is the fortified king of the jungle, so a face-off wouldn't be easy,
06:21 as is the case in this instance. The encounter actually started with the croc going in for a
06:27 bite. So a couple of lions came to the croc's abode to get a drink of water. And the crocodile,
06:33 probably having not had a decent meal for some time, tried to get a bite out of one of the lions.
06:38 Bad idea! Insulted by the effrontery of the crocodile, the lions decided to go back and
06:45 teach the croc a lesson about who the king of the jungle is. The three lions really tried to
06:50 overpower the crocodile and vice versa, but it wasn't to be. Eventually, the fight ended in a
06:57 stalemate, with the croc giving up for the time being. Number 2. Eel vs heron.
07:02 Most eels are nocturnal, so they are rarely seen out and about. Maybe this is why, this one time
07:10 a heron saw an eel, it just had to have it. The heron, however, got something it didn't bargain
07:16 for. So this heron saw an eel, picked it up with its beak, and swallowed it like it would do any
07:22 other fish. The heron then went on its merry way, flying in the sky. However, things were different
07:30 this time, because the eel was intent on living. It buried its way out of the heron's throat,
07:36 right there in the air. Whether or not the eel survived the drop is something that we cannot
07:41 determine. But it did escape, and that's all that matters. Before we look at our last pick for today,

07:57 Giraffes are typically found in savannas, and savannas are home to a variety of predators.
08:03 How then does the giraffe cope? Well, because of its long neck and legs. The long neck helps it to
08:10 spot danger from afar, and its long legs help it run far from said danger. However, because of those
08:17 long legs, a giraffe becomes really vulnerable when it is having a drink. This is because it has
08:22 to kind of tuck its legs in for its mouth to get to the water. Getting back to an upright position
08:28 in order to run away from danger will not happen as fast as is necessary when in this position.
08:34 Fortunately though, this one time, the giraffe wasn't drinking. So when the lion came in trying
08:39 to get a bite out of the giraffe, the giraffe was able to dislodge the lion and then proceeded
08:45 to trample on it with its really long legs. Such are the consequences of a mis-timed attack.
