00:00 Here we are with team Movistar.
00:05 Ludus, oh yeah, beat it.
00:07 She is on the elastic.
00:12 Welcome to the new look La Vuelta Femenina.
00:15 The race has been completely revamped for 2023 with a new spring time date, more stages
00:20 and bigger teams.
00:21 It should make for a fantastic week of action.
00:24 The 160 riders are tackling 740km over seven stages, heading from Torrevieja today to the
00:32 iconic climb of Lagos de Covadonga on Sunday.
00:35 And some of the sport's biggest names will be fighting for that red jersey.
00:39 Annemiek van Vleuten hasn't had the season she was hoping for so far, but the two-time
00:43 defending champion is no doubt the woman to beat for Spanish outfit Movistar.
00:48 Her compatriot Demi Follering also looks like a major contender after completing the Ardennes
00:53 Treble.
00:54 The LGD Works will be trying to carry their classics form into the stage racing season.
00:58 In the absence of Elisa Longo Borghini, Trek Segafredo will be counting on Lizzie Digan,
01:02 Gaia Rialini and Amanda Spratt, while Kasia Nowewia-Doma is always one to watch for Canyon
01:07 Schramm who welcomed back Chloe Digert after a long hiatus.
01:11 Mariana Vos meanwhile is lining up for her Vuelta debut with Jumbo Visma.
01:17 We start with the team time trial of 14.5km around Torrevieja, which also hosted a TTT
01:23 at the start of the men's Vuelta in 2019.
01:26 It is a straightforward enough parkour, although there are quite a few twists and turns, and
01:30 the main GC favourites will have to be careful not to ship too much time to their rivals.
01:40 And off they go, the first team, and look at the crowds there at the start here in Torrevieja.
01:48 So Pella women's team have the honour of being first down the ramp to officially kick off
01:52 La Vuelta Femenina, but it was always going to be tough for the continental teams to match
01:56 the world teams.
01:58 Live Racing Tech Find and their Spanish star Mavi Garcia, the national road and TT champion,
02:03 were the first outfit to break the 19 minute mark going round in 18.45.
02:10 But they were soon knocked out of the hot seat by Jacob Alula, who was second in last
02:13 year's team time trial, Christian Faulkner and co clocking an average of almost 47km
02:18 an hour.
02:20 They didn't top the timesheets for long though, because there was a yellow and black express
02:24 train storming around Torrevieja.
02:27 As we are looking at the finish of Jumbo Visma, and it's the fastest time for Jumbo Visma.
02:34 A blistering effort from Jumbo Visma with Vos and co averaging over 48km an hour.
02:40 Would anybody be able to top that?
02:45 Not Team DSM nor FDJ Suez, who both finished 25 seconds off the pace.
02:50 That's time that they will have to try to make up elsewhere.
02:54 Canyon SRAM though, were much, much closer.
03:14 A valiant performance from the German squad, with that clock ticking agonisingly from green
03:18 to red.
03:20 Now Trek Segafredo won last year's team time trial, but without the power of Longo Borghini,
03:25 they had to settle for a top three finish, coming in nine seconds down on Jumbo Visma.
03:31 SD Works also did a solid job, they only lost 14 seconds.
03:37 Movistar were the last team out on the course, with the world champion, van Vleuten, still
03:40 seeking her first win of 2023.
03:43 They were still in the mix at the intermediate checkpoint, but rapidly losing riders, and
03:48 it just didn't look like they would have enough to take it from Jumbo Visma.
03:52 It is going to be a good time trial, it's going to be a good start for the team of Annemiek
03:56 van Vleuten, with a fantastic performance here by Emma Norsgaard after being away for
04:01 almost two months due to the collarbone fracture.
04:03 They're not going to lose all that much time on Demi Volling, so a good performance for
04:08 Annemiek van Vleuten when it comes to the general classification.
04:11 The win today is going to be Team Jumbo Visma.
04:16 Jumbo Visma laying down a marker with the best performance in this opening team time
04:20 trial, just about holding off Canyon Tram to win in 18 minutes and three seconds.
04:25 Rhianna Marcus is the team's main GC hoper, she targets the top five overall, but it's
04:30 the British all-rounder Anna Henderson who takes the red jersey after leading them over
04:34 the line.
04:35 Yeah, we're over the moon, it's our first win of the women's team all year, and to win
04:40 together is just awesome.
04:41 So yeah, we're super happy and we're super proud of the performance that we did.
04:45 I was not so nervous for the race because I knew that we would do a good performance
04:48 as a team, but then yeah, to do it, I was just pretty nervous up there, but yeah, to
04:53 do it is super good.
04:55 Pretty slim gaps at the top of the leaderboard with 14 seconds separating the top five teams
05:00 and just a single second between Jumbo Visma and Canyon Tram.
05:04 A bit further down, Silvia Persico of UAE and Mavi Garcia of Liv Racing find themselves
05:09 over 40 seconds off the pace.
05:11 Henderson is the overall leader ahead of her team-mates Kroc, Vos and Marcus, followed
05:16 by the Canyon Tram quintet of Dijkert, Skolniok-Sojka, Reviodoma, Schabie and Bavonfind.
05:22 Trek-Segafredo's Lizzie Dijkman rounds out the top ten.
05:26 Tuesday's first road stage takes the peloton from Ardekwela to Pilar de la Horadada.
05:31 It is a flat day with just one minor climb, so a first opportunity for the sprinters.
05:35 Do join us then, and thanks for watching.
