00:00 Hi everyone, welcome back to the Makeup Chair. For today's Monday Makeup Lesson I am talking
00:03 about how to pick the right shade and tone of your brow products as well as answering
00:06 your Instagram questions because last week's Monday Makeup Lesson was my updated brow routine
00:11 which you can check the link here if you want to have a look at it and since then I've just
00:14 been getting tons of questions so let's get started. There's a basic rule to picking out
00:18 the right products in that if you have light hair you want to go for a shade darker. This
00:22 is going to complement your hair colour and bring out your eyes a little bit more and
00:26 then if you have dark hair you want to go for a shade lighter or sometimes I like to
00:31 say to people go for exactly the same shade as your roots. Your hair at the bottom can
00:35 be quite a different colour to the top of your head and you really want to make sure
00:38 that this colour matches your brows quite nicely. I just find that's a really good place
00:43 to actually look when picking out the right shade. However, you can subdivide that into
00:48 categories of picking out the right tone. So we know that shade is from light to dark
00:53 but your tone is from cool to warm to neutral. So let's talk about people who have light
00:57 hair. So this is anyone from a light brown all the way up to a platinum blonde or a grey
01:02 colour. You guys are divided into two sections. Any sort of strawberry blondes or reddy tones
01:08 or orange or yellow tones in your hair you are put into the warm category. So you can
01:13 go for any sort of warm light shades. Then if you have cool tones, so we're talking mousy
01:20 blondes, ash blondes, platinum blondes with like no tone in it whatsoever or grey colours.
01:26 You guys are in the cool tone. You want to make sure you're going for cool browns, cool
01:31 greys, those kind of things to really make sure that you're complementing your brows
01:34 and your hair colour. The same goes for people with dark hair. You have the warm colours
01:38 which have kind of red undertones, red in certain sun lights, that kind of warmth in
01:43 your hair and then you also have the cool ones. These are people who have neutral to
01:47 no other tone in their hair or whether you have super jet black hair with no undertone
01:51 whatsoever. People in that warm category need to go for warm browns, burnt kind of colours,
01:56 anything that's going to complement their hair will definitely complement their eyebrows
02:00 as well. You also want to pay close attention to that shade importantly because you don't
02:04 want to go too dark with the brows. I find exactly the same shade to half a shade darker
02:10 is okay but half a shade lighter usually complements people because you actually find when you
02:14 put a product on your brow it usually goes a bit darker than you actually think that
02:17 it's going to look like when it's on the actual pan itself. For people in that cool category,
02:21 you guys want to go for shades with an ashy, grey, kind of neutral tone in it. Make sure
02:26 there's no warmth in there whatsoever. You guys really need to pay close attention to
02:30 that because that is going to make the biggest difference to you. For people who have black
02:33 hair which is the most question I get asked about, you guys really want to stay away from
02:37 black. You can mix up a little bit of black with maybe a slight grey colour if you don't
02:42 want to have any warmth in it but just stay away from using black solely by itself. You
02:46 can mix it up with other shades like a really dark neutral brown with a little bit of black
02:51 might be totally fine but using black eyeshadow by itself can actually just be a little bit
02:56 too harsh. There are certain exceptions to those rules which is why I'm going to head
02:59 over to Instagram and answer your questions on here because there's some really good ones
03:03 that I want to answer. The first one is by Phoenix Monkey. Blonde eyebrows but everything
03:07 else looks too orange except for black which is obviously too dark. The important thing
03:10 to note here is that if you have a cool tone, anything with any bit of warmth will end up
03:15 looking orange. So you guys want to go for something with an ashy tone. You want to go
03:20 for something with an almost grey tone. It's going to look grey when you have a look at
03:23 it on the actual pan itself but when you pop it on the eyebrows it will just fill in your
03:27 eyebrows quite nicely. The next question comes in from Giggling Katie and she is asking when
03:31 you go lighter with your hair should you change your brow colour? This is totally up to yourself.
03:35 Personally I think that really dark eyebrows with light hair can look absolutely stunning.
03:40 And really striking and gorgeous. As long as you make sure you pay attention to the
03:44 tone which I talked about. Make sure if you have that ashy toned on your hair you want
03:48 to go for ashy toned eyebrows and warmth with warmth. If you're going the opposite way,
03:52 if you're going from very fair eyebrows to black hair or you naturally have fair eyebrows
03:56 and black hair you really want to make sure that you are tinting them either by getting
04:01 them done professionally or using at home tinting kits for eyebrows. Don't use hair
04:05 dye on your brows it will burn them off. The next question comes in from VCsweet787.
04:12 I'm so sorry. How do you know whether to go warm or cool? My eyebrows are very dark, darker
04:17 than my hair but I have a light complexion. You've got to think of Snow White. She's got
04:21 really jet black hair, jet black eyebrows but she's got a cool complexion. It looks
04:24 gorgeous. So don't take into consideration whether you have a light complexion. You actually
04:29 want to have a look at whether you have a cool, warm or undertone. You want to check
04:32 out my video on that. You can check the link here if you want to have a look at it. I have
04:35 two videos on how to pick your undertone. You want to make sure then you're using the
04:39 right products but from I'm guessing you probably have a neutral undertone from your picture
04:46 that I can see here. So you want to go for neutral browns on your eyebrows. This next
04:50 question comes in from WeirdoFilipino. People say to fill in your brows two shades lighter
04:55 if you have dark hair but my natural brow colour is the same as my hair. If I fill them
05:01 in lighter it looks so unnatural. Am I using the wrong shade or do I just keep with the
05:06 brow shade the same as my hair? Like I said earlier, there are some exceptions to the
05:10 rules and this is one of the exceptions. If you naturally have darker eyebrows than your
05:14 hair then just go ahead and fill them in with your brows. So match your brows to your brows
05:19 in order to get them just right. The next question comes in from Kayventuring and she
05:23 is asking, I feel like my eyebrows are strong enough that I don't need to fill them in with
05:26 makeup but every beauty guru seems to think that you need to fill in your brows to complete
05:31 a look. What are your thoughts? As I mentioned in my video last week, brows can definitely
05:35 complement an eye look and if you have polished brows it can definitely bring out your eyes
05:40 just that little bit more. But if you have naturally polished brows you don't need to
05:43 fill them in. But sometimes when gurus say like fill in your eyebrows, they really just
05:47 mean if you need to, just finish them up, make sure they're nicely polished and looking
05:52 perfect to bring out an eye look. There's tons of more questions on there but I'm probably
05:56 going to do a separate video answering some more of those because I think I need to go
05:59 a little bit in depth about some of them. So definitely leave any more questions that
06:03 you might have either on my Instagram or you can leave them as a comment here and I'll
06:07 try and get back to you. You can also leave any of your suggestions about products that
06:11 work for your kind of brow hair dilemma as a comment as well because I love hearing what
06:15 products you guys like using and I will see you guys in a video on Wednesday.
