The original, black and white Fleischer Screen Songs ended in 1938 and the sing-along idea remained mostly dormant until they were begun anew under the auspices of Famous Studios in December of 1947. But during that almost ten-year period, a few "proto-Screen Songs" were released reviving and refining the formula. The first of these was "When G.I. Johnny Comes Home," released in 1945 marking the end of WWII.
