00:00 They may look like regular old baguettes, but these long, crispy and golden pieces of
00:05 bread have been named the finest the French capital has to offer.
00:09 Their baker, Tarjan Selvarajah, took home this year's Grand Prix award for the best
00:14 baguettes in Paris.
00:16 He says creating the perfect bread can take hours.
00:19 "What's your secret?"
00:21 "I use the best flour, a good recipe and we always make well-baked, traditional baguettes."
00:29 Tarjan Selvarajah, who is from Sri Lanka, has been baking since 2009.
00:35 Two years ago he decided to turn his passion into a money-making business, buying a bakery
00:39 in the capital's 20th district.
00:42 And all his hard work has paid off.
00:44 He came out on top out of 175 candidates for the prize.
00:48 "I'm calling you because you won the best baguette in Paris this year."
00:55 "No!"
00:56 "Yes!"
00:57 It wasn't an easy decision.
01:01 The jury took five hours to judge an array of baguettes, each one scored on important
01:06 criteria.
01:07 "The appearance, the crumb, the texture, the smell, there's lots of important aspects that
01:12 make a baguette the best."
01:15 Back in the 20th district, the bakery's regular customers are brimming with pride.
01:20 "It's the best in terms of taste."
01:24 "It stays fresh for a while.
01:26 It's really nice."
01:29 His famed baguettes will now be travelling out of the 20th district's borders.
01:33 As part of his prize, Tarjan Selvarajah will now be the Elysee Palace's official baguette
