ATP - Rome 2023 - Carlos Alcaraz : "I was physically perfect, I just didn't feel comfortable. It made me feel uncomfortable on the court"

00:00 It is often said that tennis is an individual sport,
00:04 but it is never more beautiful than when it is collective.
00:09 BNP Paribas, faithful to tomorrow's tennis for 50 years.
00:15 I didn't watch too much of him before the match.
00:19 I just followed a lot of his resources, the challenges and stuff.
00:25 He did well. He was doing well before here.
00:30 Of course, he surprised me a lot.
00:34 His level was really, really high.
00:37 I'm sure he's going to break the top 100 very, very soon.
00:43 It was surprising for me.
00:46 Why you felt you weren't able to force a third set in the second set when it was close?
00:52 I didn't play really, really well, obviously.
00:58 But of course, he plays his match at a really high level.
01:03 I couldn't follow his level.
01:09 He was at the same level the whole match.
01:14 That is very, very difficult.
01:17 I tried to fight until the last ball, but it wasn't enough.
01:23 Of course, in the second set it was close.
01:26 I had my chances, 6-5, 15-30.
01:30 I could say I could win that set, except little things happen.
01:38 But of course, he deserves to win.
01:41 If he plays at that level, he's going to surprise more than once.
01:47 I'm going to rest a little bit, some days off.
01:53 I really need some days to reset my mind a little bit.
02:00 To be fresh for Ranga Roos.
02:06 To practice. That's not secret.
02:10 You have to practice.
02:12 If I want to do a good result in Paris, if I want to go to Paris in a good shape,
02:18 I have to practice to be better.
02:21 I couldn't practice more than three or four days in a row.
02:25 I've been playing so much.
02:28 It's going to be really helpful for me to have days at home practicing.
02:35 And getting ready for Ranga Roos.
02:38 What will it mean to be the number one seed in Paris?
02:42 It's great to be the number one seed in a Grand Slam.
02:47 In Paris, it's a tournament I really want to do a good result in.
02:50 I'm trying not to think about it.
02:55 For me, it's the same to be number one, number two, number three.
02:58 Probably the draw is the same in that ranking.
03:04 It's great, but at the same time, it's not really helpful for me.
03:10 Carlos, were you a little bit down physically today?
03:16 Usually, you go on the court, you play inside the court.
03:19 Today, we saw you so far from the line.
03:22 Is there maybe a physical issue?
03:25 No, I was perfect physically.
03:30 I just didn't feel comfortable.
03:34 He made me feel uncomfortable on the court.
03:39 He was aggressive all the time.
03:43 He was playing inside the line all the time, the baseline all the time.
03:47 It was tough for me to get into the match, into the rally.
03:53 I made a lot of mistakes that I usually don't make too much.
03:59 Obviously, these days can happen in tennis.
04:04 You have to handle it.
04:06 As I said in the second set, I was close.
04:08 I had my chances, but I didn't take the chances.
04:13 He was at the same level all the time.
04:16 He deserved the win until the last point, obviously.
04:21 It's often said that tennis is an individual sport.
04:26 But it's never more beautiful than when it's a team sport.
04:30 BNP Paribas.
04:32 Faithful to tomorrow's tennis for 50 years.
04:35 second thought.
