00:00 in the dress room, I want you to obey my commands at all times.
00:03 These shorts are good.
00:04 Anything above here is good.
00:05 These shorts are good.
00:06 Anything above is good.
00:07 Touch gloves.
00:08 Good luck to both of you.
00:09 So our main event is upon us.
00:18 Zoltarani feels that this could be the stepping stone
00:24 toward even bigger fights.
00:26 We've mentioned the top 15 rating in the WBO,
00:30 if he could be victorious here tonight.
00:34 And he said that he feels that he could end this one early.
00:37 But if not, he thinks that he could have Barrera broken down
00:41 by the middle rounds.
00:43 But Barrera has pushed back and said
00:45 that he's no fated fighter.
00:46 He feels that he has at least five years left in the sport.
00:49 He still thinks that there are big fights out there for him.
00:52 Of course, that is contingent upon him winning here tonight
00:55 as well.
00:56 I think one of the main things for Zoltarani,
01:01 especially here early, Corey, is going
01:04 to be the use of his jab to keep Barrera offset
01:07 and to keep him guessing, to keep him wondering what's going
01:09 on.
01:10 The jab of Zoltarani is going to be
01:12 key for offense and defense against Barrera here tonight.
01:17 Step back, counter left hook there from Barrera a moment ago.
01:21 One thing that Barrera has struggled with in his losses,
01:24 particularly against Israel Madrimov,
01:26 was movement, was athleticism.
01:29 And Zoltarani has talked about how
01:31 he's added a little bit more upper body movement to his game
01:34 to be able to disguise his punches.
01:36 We saw it already.
01:37 Barrera did not see that left hook coming.
01:39 And that's one of the things that Zolt learned down there--
01:42 sorry, up there training in Montreal with Howard Nodis
01:44 Grant, to fight on the inside and do some--
01:46 and learn some more crafty things
01:49 as you learn as a pro, as you climb the rankings
01:51 into a top 10 world fighter.
01:54 [chatter]
01:56 Zoltarani last time out finishing Johnny Navarrete
02:02 with a vicious body shot.
02:06 And the body attack, according to the Grant brothers,
02:08 will be key here tonight.
02:09 We've seen Barrera hurt the body in the past.
02:18 Of course, we've seen him stopped in the past
02:21 against very good fighters--
02:22 Spence, Madrimov, those types of guys.
02:24 But this is the 2023 version of Alejandro Barrera.
02:29 Good counter comes in there from Durrani, a night's uppercut.
02:32 And it was all set up by the jab, Corey.
02:34 Double and triple jabs are going to set a lot of things
02:37 up offensively for Zoltarani.
02:39 It's going to be a key weapon for him here tonight.
02:42 [chatter]
02:45 Durrani trying to go back downstairs.
03:03 Inside the final 20 seconds of the opening round here.
03:05 It's been a good one for Durrani.
03:09 He's been mostly able to swim without getting wet,
03:12 so to speak.
03:13 Hasn't really been touched with anything as of yet.
03:16 He's landed some flush shots on Alejandro Barrera.
03:20 Good start here to our main event.
03:22 [bell ringing]
03:23 [cheering]
03:26 Not a whole lot of action, Corey.
03:28 But what I like to see is that Zolt controlled everything
03:31 in that round.
03:32 He controlled the ring as you see him here,
03:35 walking down Barrera.
03:38 And again, the jab as you see him pumping there.
03:40 One, two.
03:42 It's going to be a key factor for Zolt here tonight.
03:45 Offensively and defensively, that jab's
03:48 going to be a big weapon for him.
03:51 You see him land a couple of nice counter shots there.
03:53 Using his range and length very, very well.
03:56 Zolt is good at.
03:58 [chatter]
04:01 I'm not letting my hands go yet.
04:07 Oh, that's all right.
04:08 Don't drop your hands.
04:10 OK.
04:10 I'm not letting them go yet.
04:11 No, just take your time.
04:12 Don't make any mistakes.
04:13 Take your time.
04:14 All right.
04:15 [chatter]
04:17 [bell ringing]
04:24 Well, Alejandro Barrera spry and waiting at center ring
04:27 as round two begins.
04:30 Barrera has received some wonderful schooling
04:32 over the years.
04:33 He spent many years training with Nacho Berestin,
04:36 the chief sparring partner for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
04:39 as he prepared for Canelo Alvarez back in 2017.
04:49 Barrera eventually parted ways with Nacho.
04:53 You can see some implements of what Nacho likes to teach.
04:55 The way he holds his lead hand, where he holds it.
04:58 But ultimately, Barrera not quite as technical,
05:01 not the right fit for Nacho Berestin.
05:06 As you mentioned, Corey, you do see some of the traits
05:09 of a Nacho Berestin.
05:10 More so in the stance than the offensive.
05:18 Exactly.
05:19 Yeah, Barrera ultimately a little more rugged
05:22 than the Professor Nacho would allow day after day in the ring
05:27 as Barrera tries to go downstairs to the body.
05:30 [crowd shouting]
05:40 Beautiful counter right hand.
05:42 Yeah, look at that.
05:42 Nice counter from Durrani.
05:46 And good advice from Durrani's corner right now,
05:48 telling him to be patient.
05:50 He did land another right hand and an uppercut right there.
05:55 They're telling their fighter not to get out of control.
05:58 And that's great advice because the Grants
06:00 had been there before.
06:01 They know a guy like Barrera.
06:02 He can take a shot and get hit.
06:04 It takes one wild shot at Zoltz rushing in, possibly.
06:07 So great advice, I believe, from the Grandbrothers.
06:13 Slowly break him down.
06:14 Don't rush and do something crazy
06:16 and make a silly mistake against a tough slugger
06:19 like Alejandro Barrera.
06:20 Well, Barrera fought three rounds with a broken jaw
06:23 against Errol Spence.
06:25 So that speaks to how tough this man is.
06:28 But also, it's something to consider
06:30 when you start thinking about what is his punch
06:32 resistance at 36, having had a broken jaw in the past,
06:36 having been stopped in the past.
06:38 You see some swelling starting to build
06:41 on the face of Alejandro Barrera already here in round two.
06:44 Great work from Zoltz Durrani.
06:50 All of it's coming from that jab,
06:51 doubling and tripling that jab, where then it
06:53 can build into combinations.
06:55 [shouting]
06:57 Chopping right hand there from Durrani.
07:08 Barrera complaining about shots behind the head.
07:10 So is Durrani.
07:11 They said, OK, we're equal.
07:13 [clapping]
07:15 Final moments of round two as Barrera
07:19 sneaks in with a big sweeping right hand.
07:23 And this is exactly why we heard Howard Brandt just say,
07:27 don't rush Alejandro Barrera.
07:29 Yes, he hit him with a good shot,
07:31 maybe even stunned him for a bit.
07:32 But a guy like Alejandro Barrera is not going to lay down.
07:35 He's going to swing and fight to the death.
07:37 So that was great advice from Howard and Otis Brandt
07:40 not to get wild.
07:41 Because if we've seen there at the end of the round, Cory,
07:43 Alejandro Barrera kind of came alive
07:44 and started applying a little bit of pressure
07:46 to Zoltz Durrani and caught him with a few shots.
07:48 [chatter]
07:52 [chatter]
07:55 [chatter]
07:58 [chatter]
08:01 [chatter]
08:04 [chatter]
08:07 [chatter]
08:10 [chatter]
08:13 [whistle]
08:14 [chatter]
08:17 [chatter]
08:19 [music playing]
08:22 Well, maybe a little boost of confidence
08:24 there for Alejandro Barrera.
08:26 Landing that right hand towards the end of round two,
08:29 but ultimately a clear Zoltz Durrani round,
08:33 having hurt Barrera early in that round
08:35 and wisely the corner of Durrani kind of pulling
08:38 the reins a little bit, making sure he didn't get reckless
08:41 in pursuit of Barrera.
08:43 And that's the advantage of having guys like Howard and Otis
08:46 Brandt in your corner, to be able to pull the reins back,
08:49 even when you're in the middle of the ring,
08:50 to slow their man down and remind him not to be reckless.
08:54 [chatter]
08:57 [chatter]
09:00 [chatter]
09:01 Durrani getting good sparring, of course,
09:03 working out of Montreal, Quebec now.
09:05 Just a big collection of talent out there in Quebec.
09:10 Also spends plenty of time training with and sparring
09:14 Durran Boutzenis, which gives him
09:17 a good idea of where he's at talent-wise in the 147-pound
09:22 division, because there's one of the three or four best welter
09:25 weights on the planet right now.
09:27 And that's a deep, deep, deep division, Corey,
09:29 as me and you both know.
09:31 There's a lot of great fighters in that weight class.
09:34 Right now, he's got his focus on Barrera.
09:39 [chatter]
09:42 [chatter]
09:45 [chatter]
09:48 [chatter]
09:51 [chatter]
09:54 [chatter]
09:57 [chatter]
10:00 As we're halfway through round three, Corey,
10:01 really starting to see Barrera kind of walking forward
10:04 a little bit more, letting his hands go a little bit more.
10:06 So now's going to be a time where we could possibly,
10:08 and hopefully see, Zole land some
10:10 of those beautiful counter shots that we've
10:13 seen him land in the past.
10:14 [chatter]
10:17 [chatter]
10:18 Durrani's corner asking for the left hook to the body
10:21 and a few more jabs as well.
10:24 Durrani has almost become a community project, if you will,
10:28 within the Canadian boxing scene.
10:29 He has Lennox Lewis as a mentor.
10:32 He has Steve Molitor helping him out every once in a while.
10:34 He has the Grant brothers, a collection
10:37 of some of the very best in recent history
10:40 in Canadian boxing kind of coming together to try and nurture
10:43 the talent that is Durrani.
10:46 Everyone's just trying to tip in to make a masterpiece
10:48 of a world champion.
10:49 [chatter]
10:53 [chatter]
10:55 Oh, and a beautiful checked left hook
10:58 followed by a laser right hand down the middle from Zole
11:01 Durrani.
11:02 And another one as Barrera walks towards him.
11:04 [chatter]
11:08 Beautiful shot there from Durrani.
11:10 Steve, that was almost like a throwaway left hook
11:13 so that he could land the right hand.
11:15 And it worked to perfection.
11:16 It's something that we used to do back in the day
11:18 is almost like a check left hook to make the guy's hand go up
11:21 to create that opening.
11:23 That's exactly what Zole did.
11:24 He created that opening.
11:26 And good work from Zole Durrani in that third round,
11:29 especially near the end.
11:31 Barrera came back and fought a little bit.
11:33 And Zole Durrani using his great boxing skills, his great jab,
11:38 and great footwork to keep Barrera coming forward.
11:41 [chatter]
11:45 [chatter]
11:48 [chatter]
11:54 And there was the check hook followed
11:55 by the beautiful straight left hand down the middle.
11:58 [chatter]
12:01 [chatter]
12:06 [chatter]
12:11 [chatter]
12:16 [chatter]
12:21 [chatter]
12:24 We'll see if Zole Durrani could capitalize.
12:29 What was another good round as round four begins.
12:32 [chatter]
12:35 Nice right hand landing down the middle from Durrani
12:37 in the closing moments of round three.
12:39 [chatter]
12:42 And it's shots like that that he believes can break Barrera down,
12:45 in his words, by the middle rounds.
12:48 And everything is being set up with a jab, Corey.
12:50 And this is all Zole has to do is just
12:52 keep working behind that jab, setting shots up.
12:55 And the knockout will come.
12:57 He doesn't have to swing wild or go crazy.
12:59 He's got to make sure his defense on point.
13:01 And he can just pick apart Barrera
13:03 like he is right there with that counter right hand.
13:07 [chanting]
13:10 [chanting]
13:13 [chanting]
13:16 [chanting]
13:20 The crowd coming alive for Zole Durrani
13:22 here at the Owls Nest.
13:23 [chatter]
13:25 [chatter]
13:28 Durrani doubling up on his jab with more frequency
13:31 here in the fourth round.
13:33 Now Barrera just trying to make it rough,
13:35 trying to find somewhere that he can get some work done.
13:38 And maybe on the inside could be his place.
13:40 [chatter]
13:43 Good left hook sneaks in there from Barrera.
13:45 [chatter]
13:48 [chatter]
13:51 And Barrera's got to be careful walking
13:53 towards a guy like Zolt with the power and the whip
13:56 Zolt has in his punches.
13:58 He's got to be careful walking forward and getting
14:00 comfortable without jabbing his way in.
14:02 [chatter]
14:05 And I think one thing we've seen from Zolt in the past,
14:07 Dave, is he will allow situations like that,
14:09 almost give you some confidence so
14:12 that he can land that good shot.
14:13 He's OK with taking a shot or two
14:15 if it means that he can land an uppercut or a right hand.
14:19 And he's just-- for me, Corey, he's just such a skilled fighter
14:22 and he's such a skilled prospect is that he
14:25 knows when he can do something.
14:26 And he'll set a trap and he'll let
14:28 a guy gain a little bit of confidence
14:30 to come in so he can whip a beautiful right hand
14:33 or a beautiful uppercut.
14:35 We just saw both in that sequence a moment ago.
14:37 [chatter]
14:40 Jarroni starting to find his groove here
14:43 towards the end of round four.
14:47 He's managed to curb some of that reckless aggression
14:50 that Barrera had to start this round.
14:52 And now Barrera-- well, maybe a headlock will work.
14:55 We could try that.
14:57 Like you said, Corey, Barrera's got to do something
14:59 to break the rhythm of Zolt Durrani,
15:01 to really change the pace and the tone of this fight.
15:03 Because right now, he's just walking into punches,
15:05 getting out jabbed, out boxed by Zolt Durrani.
15:08 He's got to try something to change the pace of this fight.
15:11 [chatter]
15:13 [clapping]
15:15 Jarroni trying to come over the top.
15:17 And that's what Zolt's got to do is he's got to keep boxing
15:19 from the outside, using that beautiful jab,
15:22 and, I mean, slowly and surely keep breaking
15:26 Alejandro Barrera down like he has
15:29 throughout these opening four rounds.
15:31 [chatter]
15:34 [music playing]
15:37 [chatter]
15:40 [chatter]
15:43 [chatter]
15:46 [chatter]
15:49 [music playing]
15:52 [chatter]
15:55 [chatter]
15:58 [chatter]
16:01 [chatter]
16:04 [chatter]
16:07 [chatter]
16:10 [chatter]
16:13 [bell dings]
16:16 [chatter]
16:19 [chatter]
16:22 [bell dings]
16:25 The round five begins.
16:27 Smooth sailing, relatively, for Zolt Durrani so far.
16:34 And I really feel at the end of that fourth round,
16:37 I really felt like he really started to catch his rhythm,
16:39 started to feel comfortable and have fun in there.
16:42 [chatter]
16:44 He's got to be careful not to get in with anything silly
16:46 or wild from Barrera.
16:48 You know, one thing we are hearing--
16:50 and, of course, we're seated right next to the Durrani
16:52 corner in the Grant brothers--
16:54 they're quite often insisting that he be a little bit busier,
16:57 because Zolt can have that habit of kind of, you know,
17:00 posing and looking for openings.
17:02 They just want him to be moving his lead hand.
17:04 Just keep jabbing when you're thinking about finding
17:07 an opening with your eyes.
17:08 They don't want to give Alejandro Barrera
17:11 an opportunity to start catching any sort of rhythm
17:14 or gain any sort of confidence.
17:16 And the jab will do that.
17:18 It's going to keep him busy and keep him from thinking
17:21 of even making a game plan against Durrani.
17:23 [chatter]
17:25 [bell dings]
17:27 Zolt really started landing some hard shots.
17:29 He landed a beautiful check left hook about 20 seconds ago
17:33 that stopped Barrera dead in his tracks.
17:36 [chatter]
17:38 >> Nice counter right hand over the top of the head.
17:41 A flush shot there from Durrani.
17:43 Nice uppercut on the inside,
17:45 and Durrani starting to put his shots together.
17:47 Barrera seems impacted by that sequence.
17:50 [chatter]
17:52 [bell dings]
17:54 [chatter]
17:56 >> See if Durrani can maybe go back downstairs to the body.
17:59 >> But he can't forget what got him to this point, Corey,
18:02 and that's been his jab.
18:03 The jab is going to set everything up,
18:05 whether it be to the head or to the body.
18:07 As he landed a beautiful straight right hand to the body
18:09 after the jab.
18:11 [chatter]
18:14 >> Durrani looking for that home run combination,
18:16 the right hand to the body and the big sweeping left hook.
18:19 [chatter]
18:24 >> Speaking of top level welterweights
18:26 of the past couple of years,
18:28 that's a combination Danny Garcia's used to knock
18:30 more than a few people out with.
18:32 [chatter]
18:34 >> That right hand and laser left hook upstairs.
18:38 Good night, Irene.
18:42 >> Durrani trying to place those same shots right now.
18:45 He's measuring with the right hand.
18:47 There you see it again, looking for the big left hook.
18:50 [chatter]
19:01 >> Good shot there on the inside from Barrera as well.
19:04 [chanting]
19:07 >> Durrani connected at the same time.
19:09 [chanting]
19:15 >> Ten seconds.
19:19 An eventful fifth round for Zoltan Durrani.
19:22 He's starting to really put it all together,
19:24 but back comes Alejandro Barrera right at the bell.
19:32 >> He's really starting to find his rhythm in there.
19:36 Zoltan's moving and boxing like that.
19:38 He's a tough guy to beat,
19:40 and you can really start to see the effect
19:42 on the face of Alejandro Barrera.
19:44 I mean, it kind of looks like he's already beaten and drained.
19:48 [chatter]
19:54 Some good inside work from Zoltan Durrani,
19:56 and I know that's what they've been working on
19:58 at the Grandbrothers in Montreal is fighting on the inside.
20:01 We always knew Zoltan Durrani could pick apart and box
20:04 anybody from the outside,
20:06 but he took the next step to get to the next level.
20:08 He had to work on fighting on the inside
20:10 and fighting in the pocket,
20:12 and we're seeing a little bit more of that here tonight
20:14 as we've seen in the last round,
20:16 and I know that's what they've been working on
20:18 at the Grandbrothers up in Montreal.
20:20 [chatter]
20:23 [bell dings]
20:25 [chatter]
20:27 >> So round six begins of our main event
20:30 between Zoltan Durrani and Alejandro Barrera.
20:34 Corey Eerdman and Steve Molitor pleased to be on the call for you
20:37 all night long here.
20:39 Another exciting night from Red Owl Boxing.
20:43 We've had a look at some of Canada's top prospects,
20:46 names like Eric Bazran.
20:49 And now we're looking at Zoltan Durrani,
20:51 one of the Canadian fighters closest,
20:54 next in line if you will,
20:56 to title contention looking to pick up
20:59 a regional WBO strap here tonight
21:01 and enter the top 15 of those rankings.
21:05 Of course it's a big ladder to climb
21:07 when Terence Crawford is the belt holder
21:10 at the top of that ladder,
21:12 but Durrani trying to take the next step
21:16 with a victory over Alejandro Barrera,
21:18 and a big left hook will certainly get him a step closer.
21:22 [chatter]
21:25 [chatter]
21:43 Another counter right over the top.
21:44 That shot hasn't missed very often, Steve.
21:47 And one thing Barrera has always had trouble with
21:50 is bringing his hands back home.
21:53 Quite often he's jabbing and just letting his left hand
21:56 come back to his chest or somewhere near his side.
21:59 And since Zoltan Durrani's been in the gym
22:01 since he was a young kid,
22:02 I used to see him his first days in the gym,
22:04 he's been lethal with that counter right hand.
22:06 So if your jab's not coming back fast,
22:08 you can expect there's going to be a counter shot
22:10 coming from Zoltan Durrani.
22:13 [chatter]
22:20 Another right hand over the top there from Barrera.
22:24 You see some marking and swelling on the face of Zoltan Durrani.
22:28 As much as we're praising Durrani,
22:30 he is certainly taking some shots in here as well.
22:32 He is in a fight.
22:34 [chanting]
22:45 I think seeing Durrani take that shot
22:47 has energized the crowd here.
22:50 A few rants at Barrera and Durrani mixed together,
22:55 but we do have a little bit of a fight breaking out.
22:58 [chatter]
23:04 Alejandro Barrera putting together
23:09 the best little rally of the fight.
23:12 Back comes Durrani with another flush right hand.
23:15 Short right hand over the lazy jab of Barrera.
23:19 [chatter]
23:21 But this is what Barrera wants, Barrera.
23:23 Do not get it twisted.
23:24 Barrera wants to get in the exchanges.
23:26 He wants the crowd to get wild and excited.
23:28 He wants it to be wild.
23:30 Zoltan Durrani wants to just box from the outside
23:32 and just keep it nice and quiet
23:34 and box from the outside and pick Barrera apart
23:37 and not get into wild exchanges.
23:40 [chatter]
23:49 You see when Zoltan Durrani uses his jab,
23:51 there's not much he can do.
23:54 But when he lets Barrera go on the offense like that,
23:56 it gives him an opportunity without the jab.
23:59 [chatter]
24:02 [whistle]
24:14 [chatter]
24:26 Round seven underway.
24:29 Nice little bounce back for Alejandro Barrera
24:32 toward the end of round seven.
24:35 And perhaps for the first time in this fight, Steve,
24:38 some adjustments to be made for Zoltan Durrani,
24:41 but right away is back on the offensive.
24:44 I think you made a good point.
24:46 Just being a little bit busier, which has been the edict
24:48 from the corner, from the Grant brothers.
24:50 Just filling those gaps.
24:52 If Barrera's not going to do anything,
24:54 you might as well just keep jabbing.
24:56 And it's the threes and fours that are really
24:58 whacking Barrera's head back in
25:00 and really getting the crowd into this fight.
25:02 It's when Zoltan's throwing three and four punch combinations.
25:07 Barrera goes to the body, comes through the middle
25:10 with a nice uppercut and a right hand.
25:12 It's a pretty orthodox combination,
25:14 but it worked for Alejandro Barrera.
25:17 [chatter]
25:20 [crowd chanting "Zogby"]
25:37 Barrera starting to get through with a little more frequency here.
25:41 Zoltan Durrani, this is where he's fought so hard all night
25:44 is to get Zoltan to the corner like that.
25:47 Nice uppercut off the ropes from Durrani.
25:51 Trying to rely on his power here.
25:53 And this is the type of fight that Barrera wants,
25:55 where he wants to get Zoltan to the ropes,
25:57 breaking his bang away and punch him in the arms
25:59 and land punches where he can slowly try to break him down.
26:03 [crowd chanting]
26:05 Zoltan's got to get back to boxing and stay off those ropes.
26:09 [crowd chanting]
26:18 It's Barrera who is the more active fighter here in round seven.
26:22 The complete opposite of what we had seen to this point in the fight.
26:29 Barrera breaks through with another right hand
26:31 and he bangs away to the body.
26:33 An excellent round thus far for Alejandro Barrera.
26:36 It's a great round and the more that Zoltan Durrani
26:39 is on the ropes, the more that Barrera is going to start letting his hands go.
26:42 Zoltan has to get off those ropes and control the center of the ring and box.
26:47 As you can see, Corey, now it's Barrera chasing down Zoltan Durrani
26:51 and that's not what Zoltan Durrani wants for this fight.
26:53 He's being chased down by a guy who's willing to throw his hands.
26:56 Well, Durrani spent this entire round on the perimeter of the ring
27:01 and Barrera just chasing him everywhere from corner to corner
27:05 and initiating these exchanges.
27:08 He's just expanding every once in a while.
27:09 What a turnaround here for Alejandro Barrera
27:19 as things are getting messier.
27:22 And Corey had all started at the start of the round
27:25 when he let him sit there and bang away on the ropes.
27:28 You do not want to give Alejandro Barrera any sort of confidence
27:32 especially by laying there and making it easy for him by sitting on the ropes.
27:37 Further the information we're going to hear from Howard Grant and Otis Grant
27:41 is to get that jab moving and control the center of the ring.
27:46 And blast him.
27:47 You understand? Stay in the middle of the ring, the center.
27:50 This guy does have no skills.
27:52 You gotta work on the inside. We work on this.
27:55 We work on this in the gym.
27:57 Stay right in the fucking middle and blast this guy to the body.
28:00 You understand? The guy's looking for a place to fall.
28:03 I'm telling you. One time.
28:05 One time. Don't panic.
28:07 This is the boxing game. You gotta put the muscles together.
28:10 Come on.
28:12 [whistle]
28:13 [indistinct chatter]
28:16 And once again Alejandro Barrera there waiting in the center of the ring.
28:27 And it felt, Steve, like a bit of a momentum shift
28:32 in round seven in the favor of Alejandro Barrera.
28:35 It did. It was definitely a very good round for him.
28:37 The best we've seen of him at all tonight.
28:40 But, you mean, has Zoltarani been taking a round off?
28:43 Or was that a good round from Alejandro Barrera?
28:45 We're gonna see right here as the crowd gets behind their man Zoltarani.
28:50 Some fans, as you mentioned, chanting the name of Alejandro Barrera.
28:58 Some of the fighters from the undercard who made the trip from Mexico
29:01 now in the crowd and rooting on Alejandro Barrera as well.
29:05 It would be a massive upset if he could pull it off.
29:09 Come on, Zolt. Let's go. Let's go.
29:11 You're gonna start making it too close.
29:13 Let's go. You gotta get busy. You gotta get busy.
29:16 Right hand to the body. Uppercut through the middle.
29:21 Alejandro Barrera has used that combination a couple of times now.
29:25 He's finding some success.
29:28 Boy, something seems to have changed in Durrani right now.
29:36 You have to speculate. Is there an injury?
29:38 Was he hurt by something earlier?
29:40 Because right now he's just hanging out on the perimeter
29:43 and seems a little bit unsure of his offense.
29:46 And, Corey, I couldn't agree with you more.
29:48 It seems like he's just almost kind of just stopped.
29:50 Like maybe he has a hand injury, a shoulder injury.
29:53 He landed some good shots there.
29:55 As did Barrera. They trade right hands.
29:58 And Barrera back on the jab. Now backing Zoltarani up once more.
30:04 (crowd chanting)
30:07 - Barrera comes over the top of the right hand. - And a big right hand, Corey.
30:13 Zoltarani's gotta keep pumping that jab.
30:16 He cannot let Barrera change the tempo of this fight.
30:20 Alejandro Barrera is stalking Durrani all over the ring right now.
30:28 And this is the exact type of fight that Alejandro Barrera wants.
30:32 And this is exactly not the type of fight that Zoltarani wants.
30:35 Leaning on the ropes with confident Alejandro Barrera wing shots.
30:42 You saw Barrera just beat Durrani to the punch a moment ago as well.
30:47 Durrani looking for that counter left hook,
30:49 but it was the right hand that got there first.
30:58 Closing in on the final 20 seconds of this round.
31:03 And Durrani right now has to be thankful for that big start.
31:08 It was opening five or six rounds.
31:11 Because this fight right now is headed in the wrong direction.
31:15 The pendulum swinging in favor of Alejandro Barrera.
31:20 And you know, let's not take anything away from Alejandro Barrera.
31:27 You don't get to 27 and 6 fighting the top level of opposition that he's fought.
31:32 A very good round for Alejandro Barrera.
31:35 Goes back to your point Cor, I wonder if Zoltarani has some sort of hand injury, shoulder injury.
31:42 Because it just seems like his punch output has dropped so dramatically after about the sixth or seventh round.
31:50 As we see the good pressure from Alejandro Barrera.
31:57 [Foreign]
32:12 [Whistle]
32:14 Round nine begins as Alejandro Barrera continues to hunt for what would be a shocking upset.
32:37 Zoltarani started the fight well the first five or six rounds.
32:41 Boxed beautifully, put rounds in the bank.
32:44 But rounds seven and eight, clear Barrera rounds.
32:47 And at times dominant looking rounds as well, at least in the eyes of the judges.
32:52 He's really starting to really apply a lot of pressure.
32:56 He may not be landing a lot of shots, but just the physical presence that Barrera is putting on Zoltarani.
33:02 It's draining as a fighter to have that constant pressure of a man in your face.
33:08 [Foreign]
33:09 See the mouth of Alejandro Barrera open as well.
33:12 It's not like he's operating with a full gas tank right now.
33:16 For the last six or seven minutes has done plenty more than Durrani who comes back with a left hook.
33:23 His best shot in a while.
33:25 [Foreign]
33:30 Durrani digs downstairs to the body.
33:33 Those are the left hooks that the Grant brothers have been calling for.
33:37 The same kind of shot that stopped Johnny Navarrete last time out.
33:43 And he lands that beautiful left hook on the inside.
33:46 But Barrera takes it and keeps coming forward.
33:50 Barrera just ducked into that left hook, but he ate it and continued to plow forward.
33:56 [Foreign]
34:00 And Zolt is landing some good shots, Corey.
34:03 This is still not the type of fight Zolt wants as we head into the later part of this fight.
34:07 This is the exact type of fight that Alejandro Barrera wants.
34:10 He's in there banging him, hitting him in the arms, hitting him in the hip, hitting him everywhere.
34:15 Zolt's not used to this. Alejandro Barrera does this every day in the gym in Mexico.
34:20 Durrani comes over the top with a huge right hand.
34:28 Durrani finding his fire here in the closing minute of round nine.
34:33 How did Alejandro Barrera take that missile of a right hand?
34:46 Durrani put everything on that right hand and Barrera just walked through it.
34:54 We had questions about Barrera's punch resistance after getting stopped two fights ago.
35:00 Look at that, he eats another monstrous left hook as Durrani is coming back.
35:06 What a turnaround here for Durrani.
35:11 When he lets his hands go, he can land them.
35:16 Huge uppercut from Durrani.
35:23 What a bounce back from Zolt!
35:26 That's the Zolt Durrani that we're used to seeing.
35:29 That's the Zolt Durrani that's the future of boxing in this country.
35:33 Good work from Zolt Durrani as we close out the ninth round.
35:37 As you see a clash of heads earlier in the start of the ninth round.
35:41 Both men acknowledge it and then they go right back to work.
35:45 And that's exactly what Zolt Durrani's got to do as we close out the fight here, Corey.
35:52 He's got to let his hands go and when he lets his hands go,
35:56 Alejandro Barrera doesn't have great defense, let alone any defense.
36:01 He's going to let Zolt let his hands go.
36:05 Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise, this is the tenth and final round!
36:21 Tenth and final round of a fight that started as a boxing clinic and has devolved into a brawl.
36:30 Zolt Durrani with a big turnaround at the end of round nine in a fight that looked like it might have been slipping away
36:45 and might have got a little bit scary on the scorecards.
36:48 Durrani decided to fight Barrera's fight, decided to stand and trade and he got the best of it
36:54 at the end of round nine and the heads come together there.
36:58 A big clash of heads.
37:00 And as you mentioned at the top of the broadcast, this could be the last time we see Zolt Durrani here at the Owls' Nest.
37:07 This is the sort of fight that's going to get him in the top 15, obviously, if he gets a decision here tonight.
37:13 But this is the type of performance that shows me that, yes, we know Zolt can give it,
37:18 but here we've seen he's been able to take it and come back and that shows he's at the level to fight for a championship,
37:24 a world championship.
37:27 Of course, Durrani will still have a long way to go as they stack division,
37:35 but a gutsy win like this will certainly be good for the growth of his career.
37:47 Barrera sneaks through with another big right hand.
37:49 Referee Mark Simmons doing a good job there, quickly admonishing Barrera for the rough stuff, but he's out of the way.
37:59 He's done a very good job.
38:01 Former Olympian Mark Simmons.
38:04 Right hand to Barrera, almost got there right on time.
38:12 Beating the left hook of Durrani.
38:16 Durrani fires back with a right hand down the pipe.
38:19 He's heading to the final minute of the 10th and final round, Corey.
38:23 Zolt has got to remember what got him here is good boxing.
38:26 He can't get into wild exchanges with a guy like Barrera.
38:30 He's done such a good job boxing from the outside all night, using that jab.
38:42 Durrani puts some rounds in the bank early, and he has needed them,
38:48 because Barrera came on strong in the second half of this fight.
38:52 And he has turned this main event into quite the fun one,
39:01 as Durrani has 20 seconds left to look for that highlight reel knockout
39:08 that he thought he would get here tonight.
39:10 I think he got a lot more than he expected out of Alejandro Barrera,
39:15 and this is exactly what Durrani needed.
39:19 What a fight here at the Owls' Nest!
39:23 What a fight here at the Owls' Nest!
39:26 As Zolt closes the show here at his home at the Owls' Nest,
39:50 he's going to try his hardest up until the very end,
39:54 but ultimately the skill set, the length, and the accuracy and precision of Zolt Durrani
40:00 pulls out a beautiful 12th round finish as we head to the scorecards.
40:09 Well Steve, you know, as fighters are climbing the rankings,
40:15 as they're trying to establish themselves in the hierarchy of a division,
40:19 in the upper reaches of it, you need good tests,
40:22 you also need gut checks like that one to prove to yourself that you can dig deep.
40:27 And Alejandro Barrera, is he a top 15 welterweight? No.
40:31 But he made Zolt go to a place that he hadn't had to go to as a professional thus far.
40:36 Exactly, Corey. It was gut check time for Zolt tonight.
40:39 He got put in an uncomfortable position,
40:43 and he had to dig deep and come from a place where he's never been before
40:48 when Barrera had him and impressed him in round 7, 8, 9,
40:52 and put him in an uncomfortable place, he had to fight his way out of that uncomfortable place,
40:57 and that showed the growth that has become of Zolt Durrani.
41:01 I think a lot of that has to do with Gabriel Faneuil and the team behind him,
41:06 pushing him, sending him to Montreal to gain that experience, to get those rounds in,
41:11 with the great sparring they have up there, so Zolt Durrani's career
41:15 is definitely heading in the right direction with the team he has behind him now,
41:19 and hopefully the stability he's been looking for.
41:23 Well, it looks like the scorecards are in the ring, and
41:29 they could be at the very least interesting,
41:33 interesting to see how the judges saw this one.
41:36 A gut check for Zolt Durrani. Let's make this one official,
41:40 let's send it back up to our MC for the evening, Mr. David Neven.
41:45 Ladies and gentlemen, a big round of applause for these two warriors
41:50 who laid it all on the line for you tonight.
41:53 After 10 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards.
42:01 Judge at ringside, Jean Gaultier has it 96-94.
42:05 Jeremy Hayes, 97-93.
42:08 And Martin Dalida, 100-90.
42:11 All three to your winner, by unanimous decision,
42:15 and the new WBO global welterweight champion,
42:19 Zolt "The Phenom" Durrani!
42:26 So Zolt Durrani victorious in what was the toughest fight of his career,
42:36 but you do hear some boos here at the Owl's Nest,
42:39 and I think that is warranted because 100-90 is absolutely--
