00:00 Hi guys! I'm Cassandra McLaughlin, Redken Brand Ambassador.
00:05 And I'm Elizabeth Bae, and we're really excited to be here today with Estetica.
00:09 Yes! We're going to share a couple of our top social media tips and tricks,
00:13 and then we're going to show you a quick oil and balayage method.
00:17 So, social media, that's a big part of what we do today,
00:20 and that's a big part of why we got to be Redken Brand Ambassadors.
00:23 Some of our top tips and tricks for social media are...
00:27 Do you want to take it or me?
00:28 You can, go!
00:29 Okay, so I think you guys, the biggest tip is to be utilizing all the tools that
00:35 Instagram, Facebook, all these platforms are putting out there.
00:38 My biggest tip right now today would be use Instagram Stories.
00:43 They're short, they're fun, they're bite-sized.
00:45 Clients love to see them, brands love to see them.
00:48 Make them fun and tell a story.
00:50 I love that. I love putting my services, like start to finish on InstaStories.
00:55 I would say one of my biggest tips and tricks is to take before pictures.
00:59 That's a habit that you got to get established because that's what sells a service.
01:03 You show where the client started and you show where they ended up,
01:06 and then everyone wants the book with you.
01:08 Absolutely. I would never go get a tattoo or facial eyebrows,
01:13 you know, microblading done ever if I didn't see it before and after.
01:17 So it's crucial and it sells so much.
01:20 And I would say another thing that's super important is really paying attention to your lighting
01:24 and the type of afters you take.
01:26 I know Elizabeth takes beautiful pictures.
01:28 You probably use a lot of natural lighting, right?
01:30 I use all natural lighting, but if that's not available to you,
01:33 I mean we're standing right now in front of a DivaLight.
01:36 These you guys can get online for very affordable.
01:39 Find a corner in your salon where you can utilize natural light or a DivaLight.
01:44 And there's also a lot of YouTube videos out there on setting up proper lighting in your salon.
01:48 Super, super valuable information.
01:50 Lighting takes care of a lot of things, a lot less editing, things like that,
01:54 to do when you have good lighting in your salon.
01:56 So now we're going to get into some fun tips and tricks for foiling and hand painting.
02:00 So I'm going to show you a couple of my favorite ways to foil the front hairline of the hair,
02:05 the money pieces we like to call it.
02:06 Yeah. Are you guys ready?
02:07 Yes.
02:08 All right.
02:09 All right. So we've got this front piece of the hair.
02:13 And so what I like to do, even if I'm hand painting,
02:16 I still like to pop in a couple of foils because that gives you that extra pop of brightness.
02:21 I also find that it gives a little bit of control to the lift and control to the placement.
02:28 So I'm going to go ahead and pop that up.
02:33 So my first section, I'm going to keep it as skinny as possible.
02:36 I'm actually going to roll this back on this side.
02:38 It's okay?
02:41 So we're going to keep this front section as skinny as possible.
02:44 And we hear the word all the time, baby light.
02:47 So what is a baby light?
02:48 It's essentially just the finest highlight that you can get.
02:51 So I like my section to be see-through right off the hairline.
02:54 And then you're essentially picking up almost like hairs.
02:58 So you're getting a really high percentage of that section in that foil.
03:02 But you see what I'm leaving out?
03:04 It's less than what I'm putting in that foil that gives that really beautiful pop.
03:08 So another key to get a really beautiful blend,
03:12 you want to get your foil right at the hairline.
03:14 I like to take either a demi or a conditioner and just tap it right at that root.
03:19 It gives you that little bit of a buffer where you get that really pretty blend and not a hard stitch mark.
03:26 And then we're going to--
03:27 I love that.
03:28 Yeah, thank you.
03:29 So then we're going to take our Redken Flash Lift in 20 volume.
03:31 We're going to start a little bit below where we want our product to end up.
03:35 Work it through the ends.
03:37 Nice saturation.
03:41 And then what we're going to do is we're actually going to work backwards, just very, very gently.
03:46 You don't want to rough the cuticle up.
03:48 You just want to slowly move that product up.
03:52 And then you get a really beautiful, diffused line with that.
03:55 So the second key point to really getting a clean blend and making sure you don't get lightener right here
04:01 is that you're actually going to fold the bottom up, give yourself a little bit of protection, fold again.
04:07 And then that lift that I left under here, you're actually just going to readjust,
04:11 and you get a really nice, tight foil right at the hairline.
04:16 So my second foil, I'm actually going to utilize, again, a same-size section.
04:23 We're going to do just a little bit of teasing right at the root and then a slightly larger weave.
04:32 And this is going to get that really beautiful kind of pop of color towards the ends.
04:39 So again, utilizing our conditioner, just popping a little bit right there, getting a nice little blend,
04:48 starting our product application a little bit below where we want it to go.
04:54 And I would say with foiling, one thing that's really key is making sure that your hair is very saturated with product.
05:01 That's a really big key to getting proper lift.
05:05 Sometimes you'll lose lift if you don't have the proper saturation.
05:09 And now we're just working up again.
05:13 Fold up, fold up.
05:19 And then I would just continue this pattern back, tease, weave, tease, weave.
05:23 And then what I do is as I move back on the hair, I get progressively lower with my foils,
05:27 meaning I stretch that root a little bit more, give that really beautiful radiation to the hair.
05:32 Yes, like this. Boom. Right there. Perfect.
05:35 So you can see that perfect little money piece right there on Elizabeth.
05:38 So that's my tips and tricks for foiling.
05:40 Elizabeth is going to do some amazing hand painting for us.
05:43 Hey, guys. So now I'm going to show you a really easy, fast way to paint hair that's going to give big impact with a little bit of time.
05:51 So I have my Femar Power Painter loaded up with freehand lightener from Redken.
05:56 You have to make sure your consistency is proper for balayage, or you're not going to get the correct amount of lift that you want.
06:04 So everything's mixed. I have a nice little section on my hand.
06:09 And I clipped at a veil, so her part is in the middle.
06:12 So I zigzagged off about a half an inch to an inch section, so that'll just lay really soft over.
06:18 And now I'm going to grab a few pieces of hair, and I'm going to turn this so you guys can see it.
06:26 My biggest tip with this would be to make sure your tension is really nice and strong.
06:33 Then you can go in and start creating those highs and lows.
06:40 Those highs. And I'm just laying the product on, on the top of the hair, so she's sitting on the surface.
06:52 That's going to give it a really sun-kissed look, super natural, super lifted.
06:58 And then on this side, I'm going in, and I'm going a little lower, so I'm creating like a high-to-low effect.
07:04 I think the point you made about the consistency too is really important for getting that surface painting.
07:10 Yes. If your consistency is not right, guys, you are not going to get the look you're going for.
07:18 That will affect your lift, and that's going to create bleeding.
07:22 I hear all the time with balayage, people aren't enjoying it like they should because they're getting bleeding.
07:28 Mix your lightener right.
07:31 I always say it should be the consistency of maybe a cookie dough.
07:37 If you're cooking in the KitchenAid, you're looking for it. You can whip it, but it's still pretty thick.
07:43 You guys can see there's nothing on the bottom.
07:48 Then we're just going to go ahead and lay this down, and I'm going to hop over to the other side.
07:53 This would be great between Cassandra and I, a refresher for a client.
07:58 They have their facial piece popped in, a little bit of hair painting, good to go.
08:03 One thing I love about this too is, like you were just saying, this is a really great opportunity.
08:10 When you combine the foils in the front, the balayage in the back, these large, high-impact sections,
08:15 it's a really great opportunity for salon reality maintenance for our guests that are maybe experiencing balayage or foils right now.
08:23 It's a beautiful technique.
08:24 Honestly, guys, this service takes me 15 minutes, and I'm charging starting at $150, ending with a Shades of Q gloss.
08:33 They feel like new in and out of the salon in an hour and a half.
08:37 I think that's something we talk about a lot, is working smarter, not harder.
08:40 Absolutely.
08:41 I think things like this really let you make the most of your time and really have an efficient application.
08:45 Yeah. Do you guys see how I'm keeping this nice and tight?
08:49 I've created a little ramp for myself, and that's how I'm going to find such success and blend in my balayage,
08:58 where really you can use Shades of Q gloss to kind of blur out any insecurities or imperfections in the hair.
09:06 But I have created something that really is going to lift well.
09:12 If it doesn't look good when you're doing it, it's probably not going to look amazing when you wash it out, right?
09:17 Yeah, and I think that's a really key point, too, is having an even saturation.
09:21 If it looks even when it's processing, it'll process evenly.
09:24 If it looks spotty when it's processing, it'll process spotty.
09:27 And I'm going to leave you with one last tip for freehand painting.
09:31 Layer it on like snow.
09:33 It's going to dry out and create a shell, and when that's dry, your lift is done.
09:38 So go in strong, go in right, use a higher developer, and you're good to go.
09:44 You guys can kind of--whoo!
09:48 Well--
09:49 Well, there we go.
09:50 There you go.
