Drugstore Valentines Day Makeup Tutorial

00:00 Hi everyone, so Valentine's weekend just around the corner, I thought I would cobble together
00:04 a little makeup menu for you that is appropriate for Valentine's Day but also doubles up as
00:08 a very simple, everyday kind of makeup look.
00:12 And this time around is 100% drugstore.
00:14 Makeup, brushes, tools, okay fine, there is one exception and it is the Shu Uemura eyelash
00:20 curler, just because I've never found an eyelash curler from the drugstore that performs as
00:24 well as this but I'm open to recommendations.
00:26 But this is just a kind of dewy skin, quite a nice flush of pink on the cheeks and then
00:32 a neutral lip because when you think of Valentine's Day makeup you might think of red lip but for
00:36 me I want to kiss on Valentine's Day and that means that you've got to go a little bit more
00:41 neutral on the lip otherwise things could get slightly messy.
00:45 But it's a nice, subtle, everyday friendly look that you could also beef up with some
00:50 like false lashes if you were going on a night out or wanted a bit more oomph to it.
00:53 But I'm going to stick to the more pard back version and I will suggest beefing up options
00:58 as we go.
00:59 The first thing that I'm going to use is from Rimmel and this is their lasting finish 25
01:03 hour nude foundation, really like this one.
01:05 I use it in the colour 100 ivory and I'm going to take this, on my Real Techniques buffing
01:11 brush, one pump and we'll see how far that goes.
01:14 Quite a lot comes out of this one actually so we might be alright.
01:17 With just the one pump, I'm not going to use a primer because this actually lasts really
01:22 well on me anyway.
01:23 And it kind of has quite a medium coverage to it and quite like a dewy finish which is
01:29 nice.
01:30 You're going to look very fresh and glowy and radiant with this one on.
01:34 Then I'm going to go in with my Maybelline the eraser eye, give it one twist and then
01:39 just pop that under the eyes and also slightly down the centre of my nose just because that's
01:45 where I get a bit of redness and around my mouth.
01:48 So I'm just sticking to areas of darkness and redness and then blending that in again
01:52 with my Real Techniques buffing brush which is just a great little brush.
01:56 I was looking through my brushes to get all my drugstore ones out for this tutorial, I've
02:00 got a whole bunch here of Real Techniques and Zoeva ones and I realised I own three
02:05 buffing brushes.
02:06 I'm not sure how that's happened but I've got three, that's how much.
02:09 I love this brush.
02:10 So I'm just pressing that in under the eyes and I'm actually going to go in with the Real
02:14 Techniques miracle complexion sponge which I love and I'm just pressing that in further
02:20 and also kind of using this all over the face just to make sure everything is 100% blended
02:26 in.
02:27 I really like doing this step, I just feel like it meshes everything together really
02:32 well and looks very natural in its finish.
02:35 Because I want this to be quite long lasting I'm going to go in with my powder of choice
02:38 which always comes into play whether it is a drugstore makeup menu or not.
02:42 It's from Bourjois and it's their healthy balance powder.
02:44 I use the shade 51 vanilla and I'm just going to take that on a Real Techniques duo fiber
02:48 face brush which is a really good brush for all kind of powders if you want a very sheer
02:54 and natural finish.
02:55 I actually really like this for blush because it just gives a really tiny amount of flush
03:00 to the cheeks but it also works with bronzer, powder, the lot.
03:04 I'm just using this on my T-zone because I'm actually going to go in with a cream blusher
03:08 later on and otherwise it gets a bit cream, powder, cream, it's just nicer to put cream
03:13 on cream so I'm just going to leave this kind of area of my face bare from powder.
03:17 So you kind of get a natural glow because I'm not going to use a highlighter in the
03:21 look.
03:22 You just get that like natural oils poking through.
03:24 If you wanted to go in with a bronzer here you could and use something like the Kiko
03:29 Masterpiece bronzer in the shade forward sienna.
03:32 I really like this one.
03:34 It's a nice kind of mix of a lighter kind of bronze and then you've got more of a deeper
03:38 bronze in the middle.
03:39 I feel like Clarins did something like this a few years back but this is one of the new
03:42 ones from the Kiko spring collection which is very pretty.
03:45 I really like the Rimmel sun bronzers or something like that as well.
03:48 But I'm actually just going to go in with blusher because I want this look to be more
03:52 about the blush rather than like a warmth to the face.
03:55 I want it to be kind of poppy in the cheek area so I'm going to use this again from Bourjois
03:59 and it's their cream blush in the shade 01.
04:01 I love this stuff.
04:03 It's a very nice corally peachy pink and whenever I see someone use it in a video I'm like wow
04:10 that looks incredible on them.
04:11 Like so many skin tones this is going to work with.
04:14 You could use your finger for this.
04:15 I'm kind of contemplating that on my Real Techniques multitask brush.
04:19 I think I'm going to go for the multitask brush.
04:23 Let's see how this goes.
04:24 I'm just going to load up my brush a bit, take off the excess on the back of my hand
04:29 and then just pop it on the apples.
04:32 I love this brush for blusher.
04:35 That was really hard to say.
04:36 It just fits on my cheeks really well.
04:39 I always feel like I'm getting the right amount of colour that I want in the right place that
04:44 I want.
04:45 It's very foolproof for blusher.
04:46 I think I'm going to go, I'm going to go a bit heavier.
04:49 I never normally do this with blush but I thought because I'm going to go quite neutral
04:53 on the lips it would be nice to have a bit of that like romantic flush somewhere in the
04:58 look.
04:59 So complexion done I'm going to move on to eyes and firstly I'm going to dress my eyebrows
05:02 and I'm going to go in with the Maybelline brow satin.
05:05 This is in the shade medium brown.
05:07 I've spoken about this in a video before.
05:09 I'm not a big fan of the pigmenty spongy tip side but I am a big fan of the little retractable
05:16 kind of pencil side.
05:17 This is really good and reminds me a lot of the Anastasia Brow Wiz.
05:21 I'm just going to go in with an Eco Tools spoolie that I've got and brush out my brows.
05:28 The only thing this thing is missing, a spoolie.
05:31 I do love a good spoolie when it comes to brows.
05:34 And then I'm just going to fill in any sparse areas with the wax.
05:38 And then it's just a case of building up the colour, kind of brushing it out and blending
05:44 it in and then assessing if you need to go back.
05:47 I think with brows I can never really tell because I can only see a tiny little screen
05:53 right there and I always look like Helga from Hey Arnold in that tiny little screen.
05:57 Then when I come to edit I'm like actually Anna it's alright.
06:00 So I'm going to move on to eye shadow.
06:02 I'm going to curl my eyelashes first with the one cheat in this look and that is the
06:07 Shu Uemura eyelash curlers.
06:08 So I was having a look through my stash thinking what is the most long lasting eye product
06:12 that I have and this just came to the front of my mind.
06:15 I was like yes you need to use this.
06:17 You haven't used this for ages.
06:18 It's from Rimmel and it says Scandalized Shadow Paint.
06:21 This is in the shade Rich Russet.
06:23 Lily got me into this.
06:24 She used this basically every day I think for about half a year.
06:27 And it's a great kind of creamy taupe that you can put on and although it looks wet and
06:33 it's wet for about a minute it sets and then it does not move.
06:36 I was kind of playing with it and like blending it out and that looked really pretty and then
06:39 I did one stripe of it on my hand.
06:42 Came back to it about a minute later and I was like oh and it just was not budging.
06:46 This is like serious serious stuff so I think I'm going to do one eye at a time when it
06:50 comes to this.
06:51 And I think the way I'm going to go about it, hmm how am I going to do this?
06:54 I'm going to stripe it on and then I'm going to quickly kind of blend it all over the lid
06:58 with the Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush.
07:01 So let's do this.
07:02 Let's act quickly.
07:05 And then blending it all over the lid.
07:07 And it just goes to a nice sheer kind of taupey wash of colour.
07:11 Going to do that again and just build up the colour until it gets to the opaqueness that
07:17 I want.
07:18 Blending it out around the edges as we go before it sets.
07:22 This is so pretty.
07:23 It really reminds me of the Becca eye tints that I've always wanted but never got around
07:28 to purchasing.
07:29 Always end up swatching those in store and they just go on so beautifully sheer out.
07:34 They feel very cooling and this feels very cooling too.
07:37 I can feel it turns kind of from cool and then you can almost feel it setting.
07:42 Like that is no longer tacky and that is not budging.
07:45 And actually this brush is a good one because it can kind of spread but then it also blends
07:51 as well.
07:52 So now that's set I'm going to go in with kind of a slightly darker shade in my crease
07:57 just to bring it out a bit, add a bit more definition to it.
07:59 And I'm going to go in with the L'Oreal La Palette Nude and use one of the matte, it's
08:04 like kind of a matte lilac-y grey here.
08:07 I think I'm going to use that one on a Zoeva Soft Definer Brush.
08:12 Just take that through the crease slightly, not a lot, just to add a bit of extra something.
08:17 It's quite nice, like a pinky kind of mauve-y brown.
08:21 And then just to make sure that's all blended out because you know I love my blending I'm
08:24 going to use the Zoeva 288 Crease Brush.
08:27 This is a little bit more fluffier than the last one.
08:31 Just making sure that is all nicely blended.
08:34 I really like this look.
08:36 I think it just looks very subtle, there's something there but you haven't tried too
08:40 hard.
08:41 So here is where you have an option to beef it up if you so wish.
08:45 You could do a really nice black eyeliner look and then do some lashes, some individual
08:50 lashes would look amazing.
08:51 Personally, I'm going to stick to a bit of nude eyeliner on the bottom lash line just
08:56 to brighten my eyes and get rid of any redness there.
09:00 And for this I'm using the Rimmel Scandalize Waterproof Kajal Kohl, I think it's called,
09:07 in the shade Nude.
09:08 And then I'm just going to go for serious lashings of mascara and I'm going to use the
09:12 L'Oreal Full Slash Telescopic, the waterproof version.
09:15 I get a lot of people tweeting me this thinking that it is the old one that I like that came
09:19 in the blue tube and it's just been repackaged.
09:22 It's not the same, the brush is a little bit different, the formula is not as good I don't
09:27 think but it still holds a curl and it gives a nice amount of definition, a bit of length,
09:33 a bit of volume, all that good stuff.
09:36 Oh my god, that thunder.
09:39 I'm supposed to be going for a bloody run.
09:41 Okay, I think I'm on about layer four here, I'm going for it, I'm really going for a very
09:48 lashy look.
09:49 I think I'm going to pop a tiny amount onto the bottom lashes as well.
09:55 Why not?
09:56 On to the final steps and for lips as I said I'm going glossy, nude, kissable, cringe and
10:03 I'm going to use the Tanya Bear Lip Gloss in the shade Lunch Date which I thought was
10:07 really appropriate, maybe you're heading out on a lunch date this weekend, who knows but
10:11 it's a very nice kind of peachy, nudey lip.
10:16 And then as with all lip glosses I'm just doing the tap, making sure it's not as shiny,
10:22 looks a bit more natural.
10:23 Perfect, done.
10:24 Final step, the L'Oreal Infallible Makeup Extender Setting Spray, really like the stuff,
10:30 I do think it does what it says on the tin and it does help to set your makeup without
10:35 feeling tacky, it just kind of dries down and you don't even know it's there, it's a
10:38 great alternative to powder, even though I did use powder too.
10:42 I'm going for a really long lasting look here so I'm just going to do a few sprays, I'm
10:47 sure it says two and I end up doing about six but you know, wait for that to dry, flap
10:52 your arms about a bit.
10:53 And that is the finished look, it's basically a take on the look that I've been wearing
10:56 for the last month or so but I thought it was a bit nice to do it for Valentine's Day
11:00 because there isn't as much focus on the lips, there's a bit more focus on the cheeks which
11:04 I really like but thank you so much for watching, I hope you enjoyed this video, if you want
11:08 a tutorial on this hairstyle, this one here, this is how I've been wearing my hair basically
11:13 for all videos that I've put up this year, I'm going to be doing a tutorial and that
11:16 will be up on Sunday if you want to check that out but thank you so much for watching,
11:20 I hope you have an amazing Valentine's Day or Galentine's Day if you're like Lesley
11:24 Knope, Galentine's Day for the win and I will see you on Sunday with a new video, bye.
11:29 Down at the centre of my nose just because that's where I get a bit of redness and around
11:49 my mouth so I'm just sticking to areas of darkness and redness and then blending that
11:54 in again with my Real Techniques buffing brush which is just a great little brush, I was
11:59 looking through my brushes to get all my drugstore ones out for this tutorial, I've got a whole
12:03 bunch here of Real Techniques and Zoeva ones and I realised I own three buffing brushes,
12:08 I'm not sure how that's happened but I've got three, that's how much, I love this brush.
12:13 So I'm just pressing that in under the eyes and I'm actually going to go in with the Real
12:16 Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge which I love and I'm just pressing that in further
12:23 and also kind of using this all over the face just to make sure everything is 100% blended
12:28 in, I really like doing this step, I just feel like it meshes everything together really
12:34 well and looks very natural in its finish.
12:37 Because I want this to be quite long lasting I'm going to go in with my powder of choice
12:40 which always comes into play whether it is a drugstore makeup menu or not, it's from
12:44 Bourjois and it's their Healthy Balance powder, I use the shade 51 Vanille and I'm just going
12:48 to take that on a Real Techniques Duo Fibre face brush which is a really good brush for
12:53 all kind of powders if you want a very sheer and natural finish.
12:58 I actually really like this for blush because it just gives a really tiny amount of flush
13:03 to the cheeks but it also works for bronzer, powder, the lot.
13:06 I'm just using this on my T-zone because I'm actually going to go in with a cream blusher
13:10 later on and otherwise it gets a bit cream, powder, cream, it's just nicer to put cream
13:15 on cream so I'm just going to leave this kind of area of my face bare from powder, also
13:20 you kind of get a natural glow because I'm not going to use a highlighter in the look,
13:23 you just get that like natural oils poking through.
13:26 If you wanted to go in with a bronzer here you could and use something like spongy tip
13:31 side but I am a big fan of the little retractable kind of pencil side, this is really good and
13:36 reminds me a lot of the Anastasia Brow Wiz.
13:39 I'm just going to go in with an Eco Tools spoolie that I've got and brush out my brows,
13:46 the only thing this thing is missing, a spoolie, I do love a good spoolie when it comes to
13:51 brows and then I'm just going to fill in any sparse areas with the wax and then it's just
13:57 a case of building up the colour, kind of brushing it out and blending it in and then
14:04 assessing if you need to go back.
14:05 I think with brows I can never really tell because I can only see a tiny little screen
14:11 right there and I always look like Helga from Hey Arnold in that tiny little screen, then
14:15 when I come to edit I'm like actually Anna, it's alright.
14:18 So I'm going to move on to eyeshadow, going to curl my eyelashes first with the one cheat
14:24 in this look and that is the Shu Uemura eyelash curlers.
14:27 So I was having a look through my stash thinking what is the most long lasting eye product
14:30 that I have and this just came to the front of my mind, I was like yes you need to use
14:34 this, you haven't used this for ages, it's from Rimmel and it's their Scandalised Shadow
14:38 Paint, this is in the shade Rich Russet, Lily got me into this, she used this basically
14:43 every day I think for about half a year and it's a great kind of creamy taupe that you
14:49 can put on and although it looks wet and it's wet for about a minute it sets and then it

14:54 I was kind of playing with it and like blending it out and that looked really pretty and then
14:57 I did one stripe of it on my hand, came back to it about a minute later and I was like
15:01 oh and it just was not budging, this is like serious, serious stuff so I think I'm going
15:06 to do one eye at a time when it comes to this and I think the way I'm going to go about
15:11 it, hmm how am I going to do this?
15:13 I'm going to stripe it on like the Kiko Masterpiece Bronzer in the shade Forward Sienna, I really
15:19 like this one, it's a nice kind of mix of a lighter kind of bronze and then you've got
15:23 more of a deeper bronze in the middle, I feel like Clarins did something like this a few
15:27 years back but this is one of the new ones from the Kiko Spring Collection which is very
15:30 pretty, I really like the Rimmel Sun Bronzers or something like that as well but I'm actually
15:35 just going to go in with blusher because I want this look to be more about the blush
15:39 rather than like a warmth to the face, I want it to be kind of poppy in the cheek area so
15:43 I'm going to use this again from Bourjois and it's their Cream Blush in the shade 01,
15:47 I love this stuff, it's a very nice corally peachy pink and whenever I see someone use

16:03 Real Techniques Multi-Task Brush, hmm I think I'm going to go for the Multi-Task Brush,
16:09 let's see how this goes, I'm just going to load up my brush a bit, take off the excess
16:14 on the back of my hand and then just pop it on the apples.
16:18 I love this brush for blusher, that was really hard to say, it just fits on my cheeks really
16:24 well, I always feel like I'm getting the right amount of colour that I want in the right
16:29 place that I want, it's very foolproof for blusher.
16:32 I think I'm going to go, I'm going to go a bit heavier, I never normally do this with
16:36 blush but I thought because I'm going to go quite neutral on the lips it would be nice
16:40 to have a bit of that like romantic flush somewhere in the look.
16:45 So complexion done, I'm going to move on to eyes and firstly I'm going to dress my eyebrows
16:49 and I'm going to go in with the Maybelline Brow Satin, this is in the shade medium brown,
16:53 I've spoken about this in a video before, I'm not a big fan of the pigmenty and then
16:58 I'm going to quickly kind of blend it all over the lid with the Real Techniques Base
17:02 Shadow Brush so let's do this, let's act quickly.
17:07 And then blending it all over the lid and it just goes to a nice sheer kind of taupey

17:13 I'm going to do that again and just build up the colour until it gets to the opaqueness

17:47 And actually this brush is a good one because it can kind of spread but then it also blends
17:53 as well.
17:54 So now that's set I'm going to go in with kind of a slightly darker shade in my crease

18:02 the L'Oreal La Palette Nude and use one of the matte, it's like kind of a matte lilac-y

18:14 Just take that through the crease slightly, not a lot, just to add a bit of extra something.
18:19 It's quite nice, like a pinky kind of mauve-y brown.
18:23 And then just to make sure that's all blended out because you know I love my blending I'm
18:26 going to use the Zoeva 288 Crease Brush.
18:29 This is a little bit more fluffier than the last one.
18:33 Just making sure that is all nicely blended.
18:36 I really like this look.
18:38 I think it just looks very subtle, there's something there.
18:42 Hi everyone, so Valentine's weekend just around the corner, I thought I would cobble together
18:46 a little makeup menu for you that is appropriate for Valentine's Day but also doubles up as
18:50 a very simple, everyday kind of makeup look.
18:54 And this time around is 100% drugstore.
18:57 Makeup, brushes, tools, okay fine, there is one exception and it is the Shu Uemura Eyelash
19:02 Curler, just because I've never found an eyelash curler from the drugstore that performs as
19:06 well as this but I'm open to recommendations.
19:08 But this is just a kind of dewy skin, quite a nice flush of pink on the cheeks and then
19:14 a neutral lip.
19:15 Because when you think of Valentine's Day makeup you might think of red lip but for
19:18 me I want to kiss on Valentine's Day and that means that you've got to go a little bit more
19:23 neutral on the lip otherwise things could get slightly messy.
19:27 But it's a nice, subtle, everyday friendly look that you could also beef up with some
19:32 like false lashes if you were going on a night out or wanted a bit more oomph to it.
19:36 But I'm going to stick to the more pard back version and I will suggest beefing up options
19:40 as we go.
19:41 The first thing that I'm going to use is from Rimmel and this is their Lasting Finish 25
19:45 Hour Nude Foundation.
19:46 I really like this one.
19:47 I use it in the colour 100 Ivory and I'm going to take this on my Real Techniques buffing
19:53 brush, one pump and we'll see how far that goes.
19:56 Quite a lot comes out of this one actually so we might be alright with just the one pump.
20:00 I'm not going to use a primer because this actually lasts really well on me anyway.
20:06 And it kind of has quite a medium coverage to it and quite like a dewy finish which is
20:12 nice.
20:13 You're going to look very fresh and glowy and radiant with this one on.
20:16 Then I'm going to go in with my Maybelline The Eraser Eye, give it one twist and then
20:21 just pop that under the eyes.
