00:00 Hello, my name is Jordy van den Busse, also known as Quobblecub.
00:03 I'm the CEO and founder of Phantom Coast.
00:05 And today, we'll be talking about Hellscape.
00:08 Alright Anton, first try.
00:16 Here we go!
00:17 No! That was a good combo!
00:25 Alright, that's it!
00:27 [Skateboarding]
00:29 Too slow.
00:33 Again!
00:36 Hellscape takes place in Wertheim.
00:40 Here, you play as Anton Falcon, a skater through and through.
00:44 All Anton wants to do is skate at Wertheim's fabled beach.
00:47 Even if that means he has to go through the gods and monsters who will do anything to stop him
00:52 and his skater friends from doing what they love most.
00:55 The skateboard mechanics are very similar to the arcade-like games such as Tony Hawk Pro Skater.
01:01 I mean, our lead game designer Steve actually worked on Tony Hawk's Underground.
01:05 It started a long time ago, the idea, in the far-off, far-flung land of 2002.
01:11 I worked on a game called Tony Hawk Underground.
01:13 And at the time we were working on it, we were thinking,
01:15 "Man, this really looks a lot like an RPG or an action RPG.
01:18 You have all these stats and you're upgrading and all this kind of stuff.
01:20 It's super cool, super neat, right?"
01:22 But, of course, we're bound to Tony Hawk, we're bound to the real pro skaters.
01:27 It always seemed to me that skate graphics create and imply such an interesting world,
01:32 but it's not a coherent world that you can visit.
01:34 So that was one of the motivations behind Hellscape.
01:37 Hellscape is a skateboarding roguelike game.
01:39 It fuses together old-school skateboarding with the tricks and traversal,
01:43 manuals, grinds, jumps, bounce meters, with a roguelite structure.
01:50 Just like with other games in the roguelite genre,
01:52 death is a central mechanic in the game.
01:54 When you die in a run, thankfully, you don't lose everything.
02:02 You keep your resources, which you can use to get permanent upgrades,
02:05 such as tattoos or skateboards, which act as weapons.
02:09 The combat in our game can be described as a fast-paced,
02:19 skateboard hack and slash.
02:21 While you have your light and heavy attacks,
02:23 the core of the gameplay revolves around your skateboarding tricks.
02:27 The game should be quite easy for people to pick up and play.
02:29 It has a combat system, which is meant to be very friendly,
02:34 very forgiving and rewarding, especially at the beginning.
02:36 And then gradually, it teaches you and ramps up the skill of skateboarding
02:39 where you need it, when you need it.
02:41 Why did you stop me from skating?
02:48 Look at yourself.
02:49 Your wing, your arm, what do you think happens when that gets to your head?
02:53 Thank you for watching this reveal of Hellscape,
02:58 which, listening to the game, would mean the world to us.
03:00 Thank you.
03:02 (ROARING)
03:03 (upbeat music)
03:05 (whooshing)
