00:00 (upbeat music)
00:02 Step up, let's go, let's go, bring it in, let's do it.
00:06 Okay gentlemen, anything right here is all good.
00:12 Anything right here is all good.
00:14 Careful with the back of the heads.
00:15 Obey the commands at all times,
00:16 protect yourselves at all times.
00:17 When I call for the break, give me the clean break.
00:19 Touch 'em up, (speaks in foreign language)
00:21 Let's go.
00:22 - A theme that you will hear throughout the night
00:24 is fighters with new trainers.
00:27 That is the case for Henry Lebron,
00:29 who is now training with Javier Centeno.
00:32 His uncle is still the assistant, Orlando Gonzalez Sr.,
00:35 who is the father of Orlando Gonzalez, the fighter.
00:39 He says, "Look, I'm working on throwing more combinations
00:41 "and delivering more power."
00:44 On the other side, Carlos Ramos moved from Spain
00:46 to New Jersey to train with trainer Raul Chino Rivas,
00:49 who also trains Tevin Farmer,
00:51 who he got some good sparring in with.
00:53 So we'll see how things turn out
00:56 for both these young gentlemen.
00:57 - Southpaw versus Southpaw.
00:59 You don't always see that in the sport of boxing.
01:03 Can be awkward for both the left-handers
01:05 because typically a left-hander's facing an orthodox
01:09 or a right-handed fighter.
01:10 - It's a rare matchup,
01:11 and all the advantages that you may have otherwise
01:15 in terms of confusing your opponent,
01:17 all of a sudden you're looking in the mirror.
01:18 - Yes.
01:19 - Although Tim says there are no advantages
01:23 of being Southpaw.
01:26 Ooh, nice double jab from Henry LeBron.
01:28 - Very nice, very sharp, very crisp, to the point.
01:32 - And he talked about working with Javier
01:34 and sitting on his punches, stepping into his punches,
01:37 because he's got power,
01:38 but a lot of times his delivery system, Dre,
01:41 was done while moving, not setting his feet.
01:44 - Well, it's tough to change a fighter,
01:46 not just their style, but their mentality.
01:49 And LeBron, this is how he thinks.
01:51 He likes his opponents to make mistakes so he can counter.
01:54 So it's gonna be interesting to see this new style
01:56 and this new mindset unfold right before our eyes.
01:59 - Stab jab to the body from the Spaniard,
02:05 was born in Ecuador, moved to Spain with his mother at age 10
02:09 and just recently moved to New Jersey
02:11 to pursue boxing in the US.
02:13 He says if you really wanna be serious about this sport,
02:16 this is the place to be.
02:17 And next thing you know,
02:18 you're fighting at the theater at MSG.
02:20 (fists thudding)
02:23 - You already see some of the fruit
02:26 of the work of Team LeBron,
02:29 where he's not jumping back as much
02:31 when his opponent comes to him.
02:33 He's standing his ground
02:34 and looking to counter right away,
02:37 like you see right there with that right hook.
02:40 - Like he was listening to you.
02:41 - Less movement with his legs
02:46 and he's staying in position to get those shots off,
02:49 but not just get them off, get them off with more powers.
02:52 - And that was one of the key words
02:53 that Javier Centeno mentioned
02:55 when talking about what he's worked on with LeBron,
02:59 it's position, having him be in the right position
03:02 without moving his feet.
03:04 Now it's LeBron going to the body with the jab.
03:11 - Nice stab jab.
03:17 - Good feeling out round for Henry LeBron and Carlos Ramos.
03:21 LeBron, very comfortable counter punching.
03:27 (fists thudding)
03:37 Ooh, counter right hand from LeBron
03:42 and then goes downstairs.
03:43 (bell ringing)
03:45 - Oh!
03:47 - First three minutes in the books
03:48 and we'll listen in to the corners.
03:50 I want you to continue to gauge the distance.
03:56 When he shows you that weaving right hand,
04:00 you gotta go on top of it.
04:03 Take a deep breath, give me a five count.
04:11 (speaking in foreign language)
04:14 You gotta get behind that jab
04:29 and I want you to bring it up and down, level.
04:39 - The other voice you hear is his uncle,
04:42 Orlando Gonzalez, who guided the first 17 fights
04:45 in Henry LeBron's career
04:47 that resulted in 10 knockout victories out of 17 total.
04:51 So he's undefeated coming in today
04:53 and Dre, it's always interesting when you get a new voice
04:57 because when you keep the old voice you've always heard,
05:00 you're gonna revert to listening.
05:03 - Well, LeBron is the CEO of this company
05:06 and if he feels like there needs to be changes,
05:09 he needs to make those, he did that.
05:11 Now he just needs to figure out the order of the voices
05:13 and hopefully the new trainer has the singular voice
05:17 in the corner and in training
05:18 with maybe the occasional comment
05:21 from his previous trainer and family member.
05:23 So I think he's on the right track right now.
05:26 Like I stated in the first round,
05:27 I'm already seeing fruits of the work
05:30 that they've been putting in as a team.
05:32 Let's see if it continues.
05:33 - Javier Centeno did have the first word
05:37 and most of the instructions for Henry LeBron
05:41 but Orlando Gonzalez Sr. did come in
05:44 with some suggestions regarding the jab.
05:46 - And that's fine as long as they understand
05:48 and respect the order of things.
05:49 Now I don't mind LeBron standing his ground more,
06:01 especially if he feels like he's timed Ramos,
06:04 but he needs to pick up his jab.
06:05 I saw two or three good jabs in that last round.
06:09 If you have a good jab, use it.
06:11 It makes the night a lot easier.
06:13 - Ramos goes to the body there with that jab,
06:16 but you see the power behind LeBron's punches
06:19 and that's kind of the difference
06:20 in that we've seen early on, he was knocking guys out.
06:24 You see the power on that right hook
06:26 that just barely clipped the top of the head of Ramos.
06:28 And then he got into more of a boxing mode
06:31 and that's what LeBron wants to get back to
06:34 is those devastating punches that really hurt guys.
06:36 - But this is the other side of the coin.
06:38 You see LeBron right now waiting a lot,
06:41 looking for a big shot.
06:42 And it's almost like you want to predict
06:44 this perfect knockout.
06:45 Good sequence right there.
06:47 Maybe one of the three shots landed,
06:49 but it kind of handcuffs his offense
06:51 and keeps everything in place when he should just flow
06:54 and let the power punching come.
07:01 But the new style is still a work in progress.
07:04 Good exchange from both guys right there.
07:06 Both guys exchanged right hooks.
07:07 - LeBron is susceptible to cuts,
07:11 but he feels he's used to dealing with the blood.
07:14 So he hopes it doesn't happen, but if it does,
07:17 says it doesn't faze him.
07:18 - And Ramos needs to pick up his offense as well
07:25 as he's almost taking pictures
07:26 and allowing LeBron to dictate the pace.
07:30 - Yeah, Ramos so far has really had one go-to punch
07:33 and that's the stab jab.
07:35 And beyond that, there's no followup to it.
07:37 And LeBron's starting to pick those off.
07:40 This isn't the first time Henry LeBron
07:53 has fought on Puerto Rico Day Parade weekend,
07:55 but to him, this moment is always special.
08:00 (upbeat music)
08:02 (speaking in foreign language)
08:06,
08:35 - Puerto Rico, that island that has given us
08:37 so many great world champions.
08:40 The drought is over for the Isle of Enchantment,
08:42 but Henry LeBron says between himself, Omar Rosario,
08:46 who we'll see later on this fight,
08:47 who's also an undefeated prospect,
08:49 and Xander Zayas, who will be in our co-main event,
08:52 the future of Puerto Rican boxing is in good hands.
08:55 And this is the place where it happens
08:57 for a lot of young Puerto Rican fighters
08:59 at the theater at MSG or in the big house
09:02 where Miguel Cotto became a superstar.
09:05 - Yes.
09:05 - There's that stab jab from Ramos,
09:11 but now he finally counters with a left up top.
09:14 - It's a battle of the jabs from both guys right now,
09:21 which I love to see.
09:24 - I like that as a start, that's like the appetizer,
09:28 but I wanna see the main course come after that.
09:31 - Yeah, it's the third round,
09:32 so it's time for Ramos to start coming behind that jab,
09:35 as you mentioned,
09:36 and start putting this combination together
09:37 because you can't allow a guy like LeBron,
09:40 who is such a good boxer, to get into a groove,
09:43 and he's in that groove.
09:45 - Carlos Ramos, this is his fourth consecutive fight
09:47 in the US on a six fight winning streak,
09:50 so he's done well here in America.
09:53 His only two losses were when he lost the European title
09:57 against James Dickens in London,
09:59 and his first loss, which happened in Oklahoma
10:02 against undefeated Irvin Gonzalez.
10:05 Ramos talked about being patient and being more settled,
10:15 not over committing,
10:17 and I think there's a balance to that, Dre.
10:19 - Yeah, he should be patient,
10:21 because again, LeBron is a great counter puncher,
10:24 but your patience can't get you to a place
10:26 where now you have no rhythm,
10:28 and you're giving away the momentum of the fight,
10:30 and that's what Ramos is slowly doing.
10:33 Just missed right there, overhead left from LeBron.
10:36 Good counter right there from Ramos.
10:40 - And maybe we're underestimating
10:45 what you mentioned at the outset.
10:47 Two southpaws still trying to figure each other out.
10:50 Nice left hand there from LeBron,
10:55 and he follows it up again.
10:57 - Both fighters picking it up here in this third round.
11:00 They're both natural counter punchers as it is,
11:03 so somebody has to step out of their comfort zone.
11:05 - Which is also a dynamic that we're seeing here.
11:08 Nobody wants to lead, everybody wants to follow.
11:11 But the jab can break up those dead spots for either guy.
11:20 You can pile up points,
11:21 and you can look busier than you actually are
11:24 if you keep pumping the jab.
11:26 - That was a long left from Ramos.
11:29 LeBron was able to evade most of the damage from that punch.
11:32 - Nice jab right there from Ramos.
11:38 - A battle of jabs here for the first nine minutes
11:52 of this 30-minute 10-rounder that we will be seeing
11:56 between Henry LeBron and Carlos Ramos.
11:59 - [speaking Spanish]
12:02 - When he's getting defensive,
12:04 you need to use that time to be offensive.
12:06 You have to work.
12:07 If you feint, he loses his posture,
12:14 and then you're not taking advantage of that.
12:17 You have to punch and then find your angle.
12:22 And if he's leaving his body open, then go for it.
12:25 Take a deep breath.
12:28 - [speaking Spanish]
12:31 - Remember, you have to throw a hook after that shot.
12:34 - [speaking Spanish]
12:37 [whistle blows]
12:46 - Said you wanted more punches from Ramos,
12:49 and we always talk about it coming behind the jab,
12:52 and that's why Ramos had success right there.
12:54 With that left hand, he simply put the right jab out,
12:57 and the left hand followed, and it landed.
12:59 - And we had mentioned the fact that the jab is there,
13:01 but there was no follow-up,
13:02 and now he's starting to let that follow hand come behind it.
13:07 You see both guys stabbing to the body.
13:10 That's been their go-to punch from the first round,
13:12 and that sets up the feint and a right hook from LeBron.
13:16 - Yes, it did.
13:18 - Now you see Ramos trying to use his feet.
13:21 - See a wide stance from Ramos,
13:23 which means he wants to stand his ground.
13:25 He doesn't want to give any ground,
13:27 and that also means that the shots that he's throwing,
13:30 they got power on them.
13:33 - There's a reason that LeBron isn't just walking him down.
13:39 There's something coming back,
13:40 and usually it's a jab or a hook.
13:42 - Yeah, and he's got a lot of power.
13:44 He's not just walking him down.
13:46 There's something coming back,
13:47 and usually it's that jab that makes LeBron reset.
13:51 - The jab from both guys are keeping them both honest,
13:54 where they're a bit hesitant to open up.
13:57 Part of that is both being left-handed.
14:00 Part of that is both their nature of counterpunching.
14:02 They want the opponent to make the mistake like that
14:05 so they can counter, and--
14:09 But we will have spurts and pockets where guys--
14:12 guys will pick it up with both hands.
14:14 Just want to see a little bit more of it.
14:18 - LeBron has a lot more success when he's letting his hands go,
14:22 but he likes to play defense.
14:24 This is a pace that they're both comfortable at.
14:28 Double jab to the body.
14:32 Misses on that left-- on that right hook, does LeBron.
14:35 - But this is not a bad fight.
14:36 It's a good fight.
14:38 Third round was--
14:39 They picked up the pace as well in this fourth round.
14:43 - Yeah, they have a healthy respect for one another,
14:45 but are looking for those openings that just aren't happening.
14:49 - It's a combination that Ramos evades intelligently.
15:08 And a nice right hook from Henry LeBron.
15:12 - LeBron knows that Ramos wants it back.
15:17 He wants to try to counter that offensive combination he just landed.
15:21 So you see LeBron moving around the ring,
15:24 not trying to allow his opponent to get the--
15:26 to steal the playback and pile up more points.
15:30 - Ramos seems to be reaching,
15:32 and that's what LeBron is waiting on,
15:35 to make that mistake and then make him pay.
15:38 - I think LeBron has more opportunities to let his shots go,
15:42 offensively, and his counter shots.
15:46 He might get touched in the process,
15:48 but he may have to go through it to get to it.
15:52 - Made Carlos Ramos miss on several counters there
15:55 as round four comes to an end in the scheduled 10-rounder.
15:59 In tonight's main event on ESPN,
16:02 for Josh Taylor, his confidence is at an all-time high,
16:04 and he has no doubt that he's gonna win his fight
16:06 against Teofimo Lopez.
16:09 - There's two styles that we've got.
16:11 It's gonna be the makings of an absolute barnstormer,
16:15 of a fight--all fireworks.
16:17 And, um, unfortunately, I've got the bigger guns,
16:20 and he does everything the same.
16:22 Still makes the same mistakes he does when he was an amateur.
16:24 Very amateurish style.
16:26 Yes, I give him credit. He beat Lomachenko.
16:29 But in my opinion, Lomachenko's a featherweight.
16:32 With one arm, I'm a fully-fledged light welterweight.
16:35 And when he comes up against me,
16:37 he comes up stuck and goes out on his back on a stretcher.
16:40 - One of the best quotes of the fighter meetings, Dre,
16:44 was, "We'll see who goes out on an ambulance tonight."
16:48 I mean, both guys have a disdain,
16:50 a legitimate dislike for one another.
16:53 - I mean, the best place to settle a disdain like that
16:57 is in this boxing ring. That's what I love about the sport.
17:00 We're gonna get an opportunity to settle it.
17:03 - Absolutely. - They get that opportunity tonight.
17:05 - Oh, man, and it actually reminds me
17:08 of what Ronald Cruz, the opponent
17:10 who would be taking on Xander Zayas in the co-main event,
17:13 he used to be into muay thai, and then he got into boxing.
17:16 He says, "Man, I can't believe I get to punch people in the face
17:19 and not get thrown into jail like when I was a kid."
17:23 Getting trouble for it.
17:25 [chanting in Spanish]
17:28 [chanting in Spanish]
17:31 - I'm in the corner of either guy.
17:34 I'm starting to light just a little bit of a fire.
17:36 It's not time to panic. It's only the fifth round.
17:39 But they need to pick it up.
17:41 I would tell LeBron, "You're the better fighter.
17:44 You're the more skillful fighter.
17:46 Ooh, be aware, but start to press the action
17:49 a little bit more."
17:51 And if I'm in Ramos' corner, you gotta let him know
17:53 that this is a big opportunity.
17:55 Don't let this pass you by.
17:57 Trust yourself when you let your hands go.
17:59 - And that's the whole reason he moved from Spain
18:01 to the United States, to New Jersey,
18:03 to get this opportunity.
18:05 You're in the theater, and a big win today
18:08 puts you in a big fight.
18:10 And so that's what he has to look at.
18:12 A win against an undefeated prospect like Henry LeBron,
18:14 that has some weight to it.
18:16 - Good exchange. Good jab exchange from both fighters.
18:19 They've done that multiple times in this fight.
18:22 But that would be a good time for either guy
18:24 to follow up with that left hand or that right hook.
18:27 - Mirror, mirror on the wall,
18:32 who's got the better jab tonight?
18:34 I'd say it's LeBron so far, but Ramos is able to
18:40 use his one-inch reach advantage every once in a while.
18:45 [man speaking Spanish]
18:47 [man grunting]
18:49 [man speaking Spanish]
18:56 [man grunting]
18:58 - Luis "Chino" Rivas just yelled out to Carlos Ramos,
19:03 "When he jabs, you have to counter with the right hook."
19:07 And the answer from Ramos was like, "Yeah, I got you."
19:10 So you can hear the conversation.
19:12 New corner, man, but you see that communication.
19:15 But it's the problem here, Dre, both speak Spanish,
19:17 so when Ramos threw the jab,
19:19 it was a counter right from LeBron that landed.
19:21 - That's right.
19:23 But coach is saying the right thing.
19:25 He sees the right jab of LeBron
19:28 staying down after he throws it,
19:30 and that's a perfect opportunity for his fighter, Ramos,
19:33 to counter with that left hand. He sees it.
19:36 - Is it true, Dre, like, your trainer's voice
19:39 is the one you hear on fight night?
19:41 Was it like that with you with Virge?
19:43 - If you're locked in, you'll hear other voices
19:45 kind of get piped in here and there,
19:47 but the primary voice, the most consistent voice,
19:50 should be that trainer.
19:52 [crowd shouting]
19:54 - Ooh, good exchange. - Ooh, nice shots.
19:56 You see the redness on the face of Henry LeBron,
19:59 and Ramos is game for a fight here
20:02 as we are halfway through this junior lightweight fight.
20:07 Tonight, it's the junior welterweight title
20:11 of the world on the line,
20:13 and the former unified junior lightweight champion,
20:15 Jose Ramirez, is in the house.
20:17 He's got a vested interest.
20:19 He's having a conversation with Mark Creagle,
20:21 and after this fight, we'll get his take
20:23 on tonight's main event
20:25 between the man who beat him, Josh Taylor,
20:28 to become undisputed champion,
20:30 and Tio Fimo Lopez,
20:32 a fighter that he's been calling out too, Dre.
20:35 - Yeah, I would love to hear his take on this fight tonight.
20:37 This is a fight that's razor thin.
20:40 Obviously, Ramirez has been in there with one of the guys,
20:43 so I'm really interested to see what his takeaways are,
20:45 what his prediction is for the fight tonight.
20:48 - And look at that.
20:49 From the fields of Avenal, California,
20:51 now wearing that Louis Vuitton gear,
20:53 my man looking fly. - I'm not mad at him.
20:55 I'm not mad at him. - What's up, bro?
20:56 - The fruits of his labor. - Absolutely.
20:58 He's earned it the hard way inside the ring,
21:00 so we'll get a talk, a conversation
21:02 between Mark Creagle and the former champion,
21:05 Jose Ramirez, the newlywed.
21:07 Congratulations to the newlywed, Jose Ramirez.
21:09 We're at round six of a scheduled ten-rounder,
21:12 Bernardo Osuna, alongside Hall of Famer Andre Ward.
21:15 Another Hall of Famer is earning his stripes
21:18 out in Canastota this weekend,
21:20 our very own Timothy Bradley,
21:21 who we send a big shout-out to.
21:23 Round six, Dre, we've done what each guy has.
21:29 Biggest adjustment each guy can make here
21:32 for the second half of the fight.
21:33 - I think the adjustments are the same.
21:35 They need to have a willingness to let their hands go
21:38 and create some separation.
21:40 The call for both guys is separation,
21:43 and they can only create that--
21:44 - Oh, there it is!
21:45 - By landing shots like that more often.
21:48 - That follow hand, that power hand of Henry LeBron,
21:52 and all of a sudden, Ramos understands
21:54 why he's got ten knockouts and 17 wins.
21:57 Both have the exact same number of knockouts,
22:00 Ramos, and 17 wins and two losses,
22:02 so two fights more.
22:04 - That kind of shot landing on Ramos
22:05 is either gonna make him go in more of a shell,
22:08 or it's gonna cause him to get more offensive
22:10 to try to get back.
22:11 Thus far, he's going in a little bit of a shell,
22:14 as I believe he's still a bit hurt.
22:15 He's trying to recover.
22:17 - And that sparring with Tevin Farmer
22:19 prepared him for a different type of fighter,
22:22 definitely not with the pop that LeBron has.
22:24 It's always good, but different.
22:25 - It's a different style.
22:26 But that's a tremendous Southpaw to be sparring,
22:30 no matter what style Southpaw you have in front of you.
22:33 That's top-of-the-line work.
22:35 - Absolutely.
22:37 You bring in other guys with the power
22:40 to prepare you for this moment.
22:43 Nice stick now from LeBron.
22:46 Finds a destination on the nose of the Spaniard.
22:51 - Next level for LeBron, working more now on power,
22:54 working more now on standing more stationary,
22:57 is knowing when to use the power and when not.
23:00 That's the nuance that he has to learn,
23:02 where he can take something off of the shots
23:04 and then sneak the power in when his opponent isn't looking for it.
23:08 That's elite stuff right there.
23:10 - Both guys going to the body with a jab.
23:13 - That was a beautifully timed half--
23:22 like an overhand left a little bit.
23:24 That landed right on the chin of Ramos.
23:26 I'm surprised he didn't go down.
23:28 - It did stun him, though,
23:33 and it has handicapped him a little bit
23:35 in terms of keeping his hands at home
23:38 for the remainder of this sixth round.
23:40 - He doesn't want to get hit with another shot like that.
23:42 - He's like, "I'm gonna keep this right here."
23:45 - Tried his own left hand right there,
23:48 but LeBron escaped.
23:51 - Hey!
23:52 - Ooh, nice left hook there from Ramos as well.
24:00 - Pull that out.
24:01 Work that out, fellas. Work that out. Work that out.
24:04 - Turn!
24:06 - Shot of murder on letting these guys
24:08 physically work their way out of that clinch.
24:11 All right, let's take a look at that Henry LeBron left hook
24:16 that landed perfectly.
24:18 - Good timing, placement,
24:21 and throwing the right shot at the right time.
24:24 Nice slip down right there, half step back
24:26 through the jab out there to slightly blind him,
24:28 but you see the feints that are going, boom,
24:30 right in place.
24:31 Everything that took place right before the punch
24:34 got thrown as what allowed him to land
24:36 that type of shot right there.
24:38 He wasn't in place. He feinted. He looked. He looked.
24:41 Then he sat down and landed that big shot right there.
24:44 That shot just missed the point of the chin of Ramos.
24:48 If that landed on the point of the chin,
24:50 Ramos might have been out.
24:51 - That feinted jab kind of brought both hands down
24:54 simultaneously, and he was able to go right over the top
24:56 in a perfectly placed shot.
24:58 - It's everything that sets the table
25:00 that allows a fighter to truly eat
25:02 the way that they want to eat.
25:04 - And the beauty of that replay sequence
25:06 is how he got to see the four or five minimum movements
25:09 prior to that, and you broke it down perfectly
25:11 that it's not the shot that lands.
25:13 It's everything that sets up that one shot,
25:15 especially when they're being so patient.
25:18 - That's called setting the table.
25:20 But sometimes we don't want to set the table.
25:22 We just want to dig in and just eat because we're hungry.
25:25 But when you start to--you know, this level of competition,
25:29 guys can sense that and feel that.
25:30 They'll get out of their way.
25:31 They're not going to just stand there for the most part.
25:33 So doing all the work beforehand
25:35 allows you to eat the way that LeBron ate
25:37 with that left hand.
25:38 - Carlos Ramos, no slouch, with 73 amateur bouts,
25:41 56 wins, was a multiple-time Spanish amateur champion.
25:45 But Henry LeBron, as an amateur,
25:47 had wins over Elvis Rodriguez and Carlos Balderas.
25:51 One a prospect and the other a former U.S. Olympian himself.
25:55 - Ramos just landed a nice shot off the temple of LeBron
25:58 a few seconds ago.
26:01 Maybe Ramos has woken up a bit
26:04 and wants to get that left hand back.
26:06 Just landed a good one.
26:09 [grunting]
26:11 Just missed one right there.
26:16 - He's gaining confidence, or in his corner,
26:19 Chino Rivas told him, "You got to get it going
26:21 "because you have four rounds left to get into this fight."
26:26 There you see the two-punch combination
26:28 from Ramos letting his hands go now.
26:31 - I think he's angry, too, that he got hit
26:33 with the kind of shot he got hit with.
26:35 Sometimes it'll take you a half a round to clear your head,
26:37 get your feet under you.
26:39 You get that one-minute rest,
26:40 and then you want to try to get that back.
26:42 That's what it looks like Ramos is doing.
26:43 - Ooh, low blow from Henry LeBron.
26:46 [whistle blows]
26:48 Unintentional, but Ramos doesn't care.
26:51 He was going from the bullfighter to the bull,
26:56 and that hit him down in AndalucÃa.
27:00 - Yeah, he's got to walk that off.
27:02 - Yeah. - It's okay.
27:03 Just keep--just keep him up, all right?
27:06 - Right, hit him in the macho camacho.
27:08 - It's okay.
27:09 You got five minutes.
27:11 - That's the thing.
27:12 You get five minutes, up to five minutes,
27:14 but it's like, do you take the five?
27:16 - Is that it? - Do you get back in there?
27:18 It's tricky.
27:19 Most guys don't take the five.
27:20 They probably should take at least two or three,
27:23 but we see right here, Ramos is ready to go
27:26 after about 90 seconds.
27:27 - Is it about pride? Is it about--
27:29 - I think it's--for me, it was--it was that.
27:31 Like, I don't want to give you the sense
27:33 that I need that time,
27:35 even though it may be a smart thing to do.
27:37 - I mean, I play baseball,
27:39 but that's a different type of cup, Dre.
27:41 I mean, how much protection do you really get?
27:43 - It just depends on how hard you were hit.
27:47 And if you got hit in the right angle.
27:49 - Yeah, the placement is also--
27:52 Here we go, now Lebron trying to take advantage
27:56 of that little lowland in the action.
27:57 Sometimes you don't want to give your opponent a rest either.
27:59 Nice body shot from Lebron with the right hook.
28:02 - Ramos had momentum. - Yes.
28:05 - Now Lebron has momentum,
28:07 but Ramos is fighting back as well.
28:10 Something shifted in Ramos in that one-minute rest period.
28:16 He's fought this seventh round
28:17 different than he has any other round.
28:20 More aggressive, more assertive,
28:24 thinking less and reacting more.
28:28 [speaking Spanish]
28:31 [bell dings]
28:44 - Time!
28:45 - All right, Dre, the jab has been working for both guys,
28:48 but it's who lands that other shot,
28:50 the right hand, that's really made a difference.
28:52 Let's take a look at why it's been effective for Lebron.
28:54 - The right hand has been great because it's the lead hand.
28:57 It's the closest hand to the opponent.
29:00 You see a jab right there.
29:01 Even the right hook has been successful for Lebron.
29:04 He's led with it.
29:05 He's countered with it,
29:06 and he's pretty much done whatever he wanted to do.
29:09 Now that one strayed,
29:10 but he came up and he landed the right hook
29:12 to the head of Ramos,
29:14 so the lead hand is key for Lebron
29:17 to continue to get those left hands in.
29:20 [speaking Spanish]
29:23 - Saying you need to double jab and then dig to the liver.
29:38 - You already showed him the fine boxing.
29:41 Now let's go get him.
29:43 - That's what you want to do.
29:44 You have three rounds.
29:45 Take your opponent into deep water
29:47 and see how he reacts.
29:49 Carlos Ramos, born in Ecuador,
29:51 moved to Spain at age 10,
29:52 and now he resides in New Jersey with his trainer,
29:56 Raul "Chino" Rivas.
29:58 And Hendrick Lebron,
29:59 this is his first fight with trainer Javier Centeno,
30:02 who you see in the ring again tonight
30:04 working with Xander Zayas.
30:06 Nice right uppercut to kick off this round from Lebron.
30:09 - I think Lebron is a bit more skilled than Ramos,
30:13 but not so much so where Lebron
30:15 has been able to just walk away with this fight.
30:17 For a guy like Ramos,
30:19 he's got to find a way to create some separation.
30:22 He's got to find the answers that he needs
30:25 to try to close strong in this fight
30:27 because you don't know when you're going to get this call again
30:31 or this opportunity the way he has tonight.
30:33 He's got to make the most of it these last three rounds.
30:36 [coughing]
30:37 - Nice counter right and down goes Ramos.
30:40 - That right hook we were talking about.
30:42 - Mm.
30:43 - Four, five, six, seven, eight.
30:49 - A lot of time on the clock, Bernardo.
30:51 - Come to me.
30:53 - My notes for Lebron that I've made over his fight,
30:56 skilled, elusive sharpshooter with a big right,
30:58 and that's exactly what we saw.
31:01 Now, a minute and 45 seconds left in this eighth round.
31:05 How does he capitalize that?
31:07 There it is again, left hook now from Lebron.
31:11 And Ramos trying to hold on and finish on his feet.
31:14 - He's doing that because he's hurt.
31:16 He's trying to clear his head.
31:17 He's trying to buy some time.
31:19 It's Lebron's job to not allow Ramos to do that.
31:23 - The only other fight where Ramos was dropped against Dickens,
31:27 he lost that fight in London.
31:30 Let's see if he can pick it up here
31:33 and make up the distance.
31:35 - Lebron doing the right thing, not rushing,
31:37 starting the attack at the body
31:39 and then finishing up top.
31:41 It's the perfect thing to do when you have an opponent hurt.
31:44 Because typically, an opponent wants to protect his head.
31:48 He's not thinking about the body.
31:50 Hurt him to the body, the head will be available.
31:53 - You're so cruel, Dre.
31:55 - I mean, it's that mean streak.
31:58 It didn't retire when I retired.
32:00 [laughing]
32:02 - Keep breathing.
32:03 - I got it, I got it, I got it.
32:05 - Ramos doing the smart thing here.
32:07 Ate up a minute of the time that was left in the eighth round.
32:10 And Lebron digging to the body here.
32:13 - And you can tell that Ramos has gotten his wits back,
32:15 his head back just a little bit
32:17 because he starts to throw punches.
32:19 When a fighter's hurt, they typically don't throw punches back.
32:21 You're starting to see Ramos throw a few shots back now.
32:24 Good shot right there.
32:25 A little sneaky, I don't know what that was.
32:27 That was a sneaky, I don't know what that was.
32:29 Like an uppercut, a lead uppercut.
32:31 - He didn't throw it Navarrete style.
32:35 - You're going to have to move it right where you're supposed to be
32:37 with an intimate uppercut.
32:39 - Another good right hook from Lebron.
32:42 - Nice left there from Carlos Ramos who's waking up
32:48 after being dropped here in the eighth round.
32:52 That's how Lebron walks back to his corner
32:55 and Ramos getting an earful from Raul "Chino" Rivas.
33:00 This is how it happens.
33:01 - Yeah, I'm not sure if the right hook from Lebron
33:03 is left, but it's active.
33:06 And when he's using that thing, boom.
33:08 He didn't even think, Lebron didn't even think,
33:10 he just reacted.
33:11 He allowed Ramos to make the mistake,
33:13 kept his feet under him, he just whipped it.
33:15 And a shot like that doesn't have to land hard.
33:17 You just land it with an eight ounce glove
33:19 or a ten ounce glove at the top of the head,
33:21 knocks off your equilibrium.
33:23 Your head is clear, but your legs are not cooperating.
33:26 And this is what we see right here.
33:27 Half step back, boom, right, good shot right there from Lebron.
33:30 That definitely got Ramos' attention.
33:33 - Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
33:35 He didn't load it up, it was just a quick shot
33:38 that landed in the perfect spot.
33:40 And Dre, punchers know how to turn it over
33:42 and that's why it did the damage.
33:44 It wasn't a slapping shot.
33:45 - That's the biggest misconception is that
33:47 in boxing is you have to throw hard to land hard.
33:49 You have to throw right and land right.
33:51 And that's what Lebron did.
33:53 - Timing maybe beats power a lot of times
33:55 and that was a perfectly timed and delivered punch
33:58 by Henry Lebron who takes an advantage there
34:00 after that 10, eight round in this fight scheduled for 10.
34:04 Bernardo Osuna alongside Hall of Famer Andre Ward.
34:07 Things heating up here for the final six minutes
34:10 between Henry Lebron and Carlos Ramos.
34:12 - Ramos needs to dig deep these last two rounds
34:15 and try to allow something big to happen,
34:17 hurt Lebron, drop him and get his attention.
34:21 And if I'm Lebron, I need to finish strong.
34:24 I want to close this out strong
34:26 because this has been a good performance from him thus far.
34:28 - That stick back to work for Lebron
34:30 trying to set up the left hook or a counter right.
34:33 But the right hand from Lebron
34:35 has just done all the damage tonight.
34:37 Be it as a jab or that counter right hook
34:40 that we saw drop Ramos.
34:43 In the corner Chino Rivas as Ramos to pressure
34:49 to go after Henry Lebron,
34:52 but that could create some openings.
34:54 - But he's got to do it. - Yeah.
34:56 - No more time to waste.
34:58 He's got a little over a round and a half.
35:02 He's got to react offensively and defensively.
35:06 He cannot wait around and passively lose a decision.
35:09 - Low blow in the seventh round
35:11 that was perfectly placed by Henry Lebron.
35:15 And you still see Ramos pulling on the trunks sometimes.
35:19 So still in the process of recovering.
35:21 And there's that long left hand from Henry Lebron.
35:24 - Another counter shot from Lebron.
35:26 This time it came from the left-handed side.
35:28 - Ooh, that digging body work from Lebron
35:33 sets up a left hand over the top.
35:35 Just as you had mentioned, Dre, earlier,
35:37 you go to the body, it's going to set up openings for the top.
35:40 But Lebron not throwing more than two punches,
35:42 three max at a time.
35:44 - I think that's the temperament thing,
35:46 the counter puncher thing, where when he's offensive,
35:49 he feels like he's in deep water.
35:51 He feels a little bit out of sorts,
35:53 and he wants to get back home and play defense.
35:56 - Ooh, that stick from Lebron as Ramos was trying to create range.
36:02 And now Lebron closes the range.
36:04 Nice body shot with the right hook by Lebron.
36:07 - Every punch didn't land for Lebron,
36:09 but I like the punch selection from Lebron.
36:12 - [speaking Spanish]
36:15 - They're yelling 30 seconds for Carlos Ramos.
36:27 They want him to let his hands go,
36:30 but only he knows what he's facing in there
36:32 and what comes back at him.
36:34 - You can only push a fighter to do what you need him to do.
36:37 They got to decide what they're willing to live with.
36:40 Come Sunday morning when they wake up
36:42 and think back about how the fight went.
36:45 Good exchange from both guys.
36:48 Lebron getting the better of it.
36:51 [bell dings]
36:53 - All right, let's listen in to the corner.
36:55 Henry Lebron going for the 10th round
36:58 for the first time with his new trainer, Javier Centeno.
37:01 - How you feeling? I'm all right.
37:03 - Okay.
37:05 [indistinct chatter]
37:08 - I want you to finish this round strong.
37:11 [indistinct chatter]
37:14 - Speed here, speed here.
37:16 - Okay.
37:18 - Last round. - Yeah, we got it.
37:20 [indistinct chatter]
37:23 [bell dings]
37:26 - Take a deep breath.
37:29 [indistinct chatter]
37:32 - Go with the right hook to the body.
37:35 That hurt him.
37:37 He ducked down because that body shot really hurt him.
37:40 [indistinct chatter]
37:43 [indistinct chatter]
37:45 - Keep your chin tucked, okay?
37:47 Defensive responsibility is key.
37:49 [indistinct chatter]
37:52 [indistinct chatter]
37:54 - Final round between undefeated Puerto Rican prospect
37:57 Henry Lebron at 17 and 0 with 10 knockouts,
38:00 taking on Spain's Carlos Ramos.
38:03 Born in Ecuador, grew up in Spain,
38:06 now lives in New Jersey,
38:08 following his boxing dream here in America,
38:11 and tonight he's at the theater at Madison Square Garden.
38:15 [indistinct chatter]
38:18 Let me remind you, Jose Ramirez,
38:20 the former junior welterweight champion,
38:22 the man who lost his two belts to main headliner
38:26 Josh Taylor for the undisputed title.
38:28 He'll have a conversation with Mark Creagle.
38:32 [indistinct chatter]
38:35 [indistinct chatter]
38:38 [indistinct chatter]
38:41 - Right from Henry Lebron.
38:44 Quick hands, very responsible on the defensive end
38:48 is the Puerto Rican fighter.
38:51 But with Javier Centeno, he's an offensive guy as well.
38:54 He wants you to be defensive, but let your hands go,
38:57 and I think that's what we're gonna see,
38:59 a lot of progression in Henry Lebron
39:02 in his next couple fights.
39:03 - Yeah, I agree.
39:04 It's still early in this process of trying to revamp and--
39:08 - Ooh, there's that check left now.
39:10 - That shot right there, Ramos thought about going down,
39:12 but he didn't.
39:15 - There was no soft landing spot for him there,
39:18 and decided to stay on his feet,
39:19 but that was a nicely placed hook by Henry Lebron.
39:22 - I think that was a straight left or overhand left,
39:24 if I'm not mistaken.
39:26 - Gotta watch the replay.
39:29 - I got it, I got it.
39:30 - But we're seeing the fruits of the new style,
39:33 the new change in style, and it will take some time.
39:37 But seeing some good things tonight.
39:39 - Ooh, that is very good.
39:41 That right hook sends Ramos on his keister.
39:46 - Right hook has been deadly to him.
39:48 - Ooh.
39:49 - Seven, eight.
39:52 - Come to me, come to me.
39:56 - He didn't need to find a landing spot.
39:58 Lebron found it for him.
39:59 - He found it for him.
40:00 - That right hook has been special for Henry Lebron here.
40:03 He's got just under a minute to see if he can finish this fight.
40:08 - Why not go back to it?
40:10 He's had success with it all night long.
40:12 Can feint with the jab, lead with it,
40:15 bring the left hand and the right hook back again.
40:19 But Ramos has had no answers for that right hook this entire fight.
40:24 - There it is again.
40:31 Now it's a straight left following that right hook.
40:35 He's got Ramos thinking about that right hand,
40:37 and that sets up opportunities for his left.
40:41 - Lebron is a really, really good fighter.
40:46 That's still a work in progress.
40:47 A lot of tools that he's still learning to use and sharpen along the way.
40:53 - We mentioned the fighter meetings.
40:56 He did everything he said he was going to do.
40:58 His feet were more settled.
40:59 He was patient.
41:01 He was generating more power.
41:02 It's just a matter of continuing to polish that,
41:05 and he'll definitely be doing that with Javier Centeno
41:08 working in that camp with Xander Zayas.
41:10 - He's heading in the right direction.
41:12 No doubt about it.
41:15 But his biggest asset, he's got an IQ.
41:18 - Yes.
41:19 - So when a fighter has an IQ,
41:20 they may have a certain particular style that they like,
41:23 but if anybody can change and alter a style
41:25 and receive the information, it's a guy like Lebron.
41:28 - Let's take a look at how this fight played out, Dre.
41:30 The jab was key early on.
41:32 - A lot of nip and tuck from both guys.
41:34 It was a right-hand dominant fight,
41:35 but then you started to see Lebron do what the cream typically does,
41:39 which is rise and create separation.
41:41 He also had to show that he had a chin tonight
41:43 because Ramos had his moments,
41:45 but in these later rounds,
41:46 you see Lebron doing his thing just like that
41:49 and what he does best, which is counter,
41:51 allowing an opponent to make the mistake--
41:53 Oop! Get your hands back.
41:55 You couldn't get there fast enough,
41:57 and you paid for it.
41:59 Then the right hook came later in the fight.
42:02 Ramos still throwing shots right here,
42:05 but just when you think the fight may end
42:08 in sort of a dud,
42:10 you see Lebron explode with a shot right there
42:14 that you think it shouldn't be much.
42:16 Maybe it shouldn't cause that kind of damage,
42:18 but a lot of good work early on from Lebron
42:20 and throughout this fight set up that kind of shot.
42:23 The power's there.
42:25 The legs are more sturdy,
42:26 and he's heading in the right direction.
42:29 - When you can put a guy down in the eighth and tenth round,
42:32 that means your power is carrying.
42:34 - It's carrying.
42:35 - That's even scarier, Dre.
42:37 - Doesn't fall off.
42:38 Fatigue hasn't set in.
42:39 That's a beautiful thing to see if you're on Team Lebron.
42:42 - And absolutely a match between two southpaws.
42:44 You pointed out exactly how hard it was gonna be
42:47 for them to figure each other out,
42:49 and once they did,
