HAIR TUTORIAL French Braid Sock Bun

00:00 Hey guys, this is Jen and today I wanted to share with you another simple hair tutorial.
00:05 But before I get into that, I just wanted to make a super exciting announcement.
00:10 So I am going to be partnering up with Pantene Pro V to be bringing you videos for literally

00:18 So it's going to be a ton of really cool hair tutorials.
00:22 So I'm really excited to share more of those with you because, you know, I got big hair
00:27 so I got a lot of hair tutorials.
00:29 So today I wanted to share with you a little bit of a twist on your typical sock bun.
00:33 I'm sure you've seen lots of tutorials online on how to do a sock bun.
00:38 Basically, there is a sock bun incorporated into my hair except it has a bit of a twist
00:45 which is in the back.
00:46 I have a bit of a Dutch braid in the back and it also incorporates itself into the bun
00:52 right above it.
00:53 In the front, I just like keeping it a little bit casual and kind of like retro with a bit
00:57 of a swirl going on right here.
01:00 And then of course, my top bun right here.

01:07 So to start off this look, I'm going to add a bit of texture to my hair.
01:11 And even if your hair is clean, sometimes clean hair that's too clean is kind of not
01:16 as good to work with when you're doing an updo.
01:19 So I either recommend you have dirty hair like every other day I shampoo kind of dirty
01:25 hair or using a dry shampoo on both dirty hair and clean hair.
01:30 It'll just add a little bit of grit and things will hold better and style better.
01:34 So I'm going to use this Pantene Pro V Blowout Extend Dry Shampoo.
01:39 So I'm just going to lift up sections of my hair and apply this where my roots are.
01:44 And then I'm just going to separate my hair into two halves.
01:48 Mostly, the lower half is going to be a greater amount than the upper half.
01:53 So I'm just taking my fingers like this so my thumbs are right by my ears.
01:58 And then it's going to kind of go upward.
02:00 So the line is going to go up compared to the back of your head.
02:03 I'm going to gather the hair up here and look really awesome.
02:07 Just sort of tie this out of the way for now.
02:10 And then I'm going to begin French braiding the bottom.
02:13 Now you can do a regular French braid or you can do a Dutch braid.
02:16 Kind of whatever is more comfortable for you.
02:19 I usually, when I'm doing things backwards, end up doing a Dutch braid.
02:23 So that's what I'm going to do.
02:25 Okay, now you're going to be really awesome and flip your head over.
02:28 Take your thumbs, get a small section at the back of your head, divide that into three
02:33 sections.
02:34 You're going to do a single braid with the piece that's on your right right here.
02:39 You're going to take your thumb and add a section of hair.
02:44 Now take the section on the other side.
02:47 Add hair to that as well.
02:48 And you're going to braid.
02:54 Try to keep this braid pretty tight against your head.
03:08 Now at this point, you're going to just braid this all the way straight down.
03:14 Looks so cool right now.
03:16 Now I'm just taking a little elastic and I'm going to tie off that end.
03:19 And then this is what it should look like from the back.
03:22 And this is the final look!
03:23 Yay!
03:24 Okay, no, I'm totally kidding.
03:26 This looks ridiculous.
03:27 So this is the braid from the back.
03:29 As you can see, it's just like against my head here.
03:32 And then we have this business in the front that we're going to figure out now.
03:34 So now I'm going to just adjust my part because I feel like with updos, sometimes it looks
03:39 kind of cuter if you have like a really deep part.
03:43 You know, something like that.
03:45 And then these pieces are going to kind of wrap backwards and go into a sock bun.
03:53 I'm sure you've seen sock buns before on the internets.
03:56 You just take a sock and you cut off the toe and then you roll it up like this.
03:59 And then we're going to make a bun with our hair.
04:02 And this is going to be the filler so you look like you have big hair when you actually
04:06 maybe don't have as big hair as it may seem.
04:10 I'm going to pull the hair up to where this starts separating from my head.
04:15 So about here.
04:16 I'm going to just do a little twist so that it lays flatter against my head.
04:25 I'm taking another elastic and I'm actually going to make a ponytail, including the braid
04:30 in the middle.
04:33 And then I'm taking the sock bun thing.
04:38 Half the braid sticking up in the middle, but we're not going to roll the braid down.
04:42 We're just going to take the rest of the hair and then roll that down into the sock bun.
04:50 Okay, now you should have the sock bun bun against your head and you should have this
04:57 nice braid sticking out of the middle here.
05:00 And we're going to actually tuck it in the back part of the bun.
05:03 Alright, so this is what it should look like from the front again.
05:16 As you can see, it kind of looks like a messy bun updo.
05:19 It's just a little fancier in the back, but I do have little stray hairs and tweedly things
05:25 going on.
05:26 So I'm going to take a texturizing wax to kind of make things put in place but still
05:31 look like it was effortlessly done that way.
05:34 So I'm taking this Pantene texturizing sculpting wax so they're not just kind of flying around
05:39 everywhere.
05:40 And I also have these little pieces sticking out.
05:44 I'm just going to use this, tuck it under.
05:47 So this is the final look!
