00:00 Hey guys, it's Jen, and today I wanted to share with you
00:02 a makeup for newbies makeup tutorial.
00:05 So nothing in here is too extravagant.
00:08 It's just your basic tutorial that's
00:09 going to be great for class or work or just your everyday,
00:14 I'm going to be a normal person going out and doing
00:17 my makeup thing, makeup look.
00:18 So if you want to see how this is done, then keep watching.
00:22 So I'm going to start off with liquid foundation.
00:24 If you're a newbie, you could always do tinted moisturizer
00:27 or BB cream, but this is one of my favorite foundations.
00:30 It's Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation
00:33 in number 60, Natural Beige.
00:35 I just poured a little bit on the back of my hand.
00:37 And you want to go lighter with this,
00:39 because you can always add more, but it's kind of messy
00:42 if you start off with too much.
00:44 We're going to just dot this onto our face
00:46 and then blend it in with our brush.
00:48 So I'm just taking clean hands.
00:50 Make sure you wash your hands before this.
00:53 And I'm just dotting it around my face like that.
00:56 And I'm taking a dense synthetic brush.
00:58 This is one of my favorites.
01:00 It's the Sigma F84.
01:02 I also love the F82, which is just rounded.
01:04 There are similar ones you can also get at the drugstore,
01:06 but this is my go-to brush.
01:08 So I'm just kind of buffing this into my skin all over.
01:12 The focus here isn't to get every little thing covered.
01:16 It's to just have a really light layer,
01:18 especially if you're new to wearing foundation.
01:21 Just going in light, light layers
01:24 and letting it kind of dry slightly in between
01:27 is going to give you the most natural finish.
01:29 Generally, what you want to do is have the most coverage
01:32 kind of like here in the middle of your face
01:35 and then blend it out as you go out.
01:37 At this point, you should have a really nice, even layer
01:40 of foundation on your face.
01:41 And you should still be able to see your skin texture.
01:44 You don't want to cake this on, especially
01:46 if you're new to foundation, because it's
01:48 going to just look like you have a lot of makeup on.
01:51 And that's not what you want.
01:52 We're going to add a bit of concealer to hide any spots
01:55 that still show through.
01:57 But you really want to preserve your skin texture.
01:59 Next, we're going to move on to concealer.
02:01 I'm using the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in number 20, Sand.
02:04 I'm going to apply this under my eyes,
02:07 just kind of like streak and do a couple dots.
02:10 And then anywhere else that you have a little bit
02:12 of discoloration showing, like maybe
02:14 if you have acne hyperpigmentation like I do
02:17 or sunspots, you're just going to do a little dab here
02:20 and there to cover any little spots you need covered.
02:24 I also like to go over the redness around my nose.
02:26 I'm taking my ring fingers, which are the weakest,
02:29 and I'm just going to tap this into my skin.
02:31 Now to set the foundation and keep any oiliness
02:37 peeking through at bay, I'm using a powder.
02:39 For the powder, you're going to want to use a fairly light hand,
02:42 because again, if you overpowder,
02:44 you're going to be able to see it on your skin
02:46 and lose your skin texture.
02:47 I'm just going to press my brush into it,
02:51 just kind of tap off the excess.
02:52 And I'm just going to pat this in my T-zone area.
02:55 I'm not going all the way out to every single area of my face.
02:59 I'm just going to cover where I get oily.
03:03 So I'm just applying an eyeshadow primer.
03:05 This is going to keep everything from smudging
03:07 all over your face, which is a much bigger problem than you
03:09 might think.
03:10 I'm using L'Oreal's Magic Decrease Eyelid Primer.
03:13 Next, I'm taking a big flat brush.
03:15 This is Sigma's E55.
03:17 And I'm taking this lighter color,
03:19 and I'm just applying this all over the lid.
03:21 So this first color is going to go all over the main ball
03:25 of your eye.
03:26 And as a little anatomy lesson, if you push your brush in just
03:29 slightly, you should have a little crease area showing up.
03:33 So this is the line of demarcation.
03:35 Above here is where your highlight shade would be,
03:38 right on top of your brow bone.
03:39 And then in this outer little corner right here
03:42 is where you're going to have a little bit of a contour/outer V
03:46 crease color.
03:47 And that'll go right into the hollow of your eye socket.
03:50 I tapped a little bit of a medium brown color
03:52 onto the top of this pencil-shaped brush.
03:56 And we're going to start at this outer little contour area.
03:59 So I'm just taking the brush, pointed toward my face,
04:03 and just pushing it right at the corner.
04:06 And then I'm going to sweep it inward right here,
04:09 inside where that crease shows up.
04:13 So I'm just going to bring this up very softly
04:16 so that it blends into that previous color we laid down.
04:21 You don't really want to go past about halfway.
04:24 You really want to keep it in this outer third area
04:26 and just blend it out really nicely.
04:28 How high this comes is really going
04:30 to depend on your own eye shape.
04:32 But you want to make sure you have quite a bit of brow room
04:35 here.
04:36 So you don't want to bring this up too high.
04:38 You can always add more if it's not enough.
04:40 But if you have too much, it's really hard to take it away.
04:42 Next I'm taking this brow bone color.
04:44 And I'm going to start right underneath the arch of my brow
04:47 right here.
04:48 And I'm blending this outward.
04:51 I'm not bringing it too far in on my eyes.
04:53 Because if you see, light naturally
04:56 hits me right here, where the brow bone sticks out the most.
05:00 So I really want to just mimic how light is naturally
05:03 hitting my eye shape.
05:05 I'm also going to add that same color here
05:07 to the inner corners.
05:08 This inner corner trick in particular
05:10 makes you look a lot more brighter eyed and rusted,
05:12 which is always great.
05:13 I'm using that same secondary brown eye shadow
05:16 on my lower lash line, just about to the halfway point
05:19 here.
05:19 I like using it because it smudges a little bit less
05:22 than using eyeliner on your lower lash line.
05:24 Now I'm taking a small angled brush.
05:27 And I'm just going to apply gel liner to my lashes.
05:30 I really love this for beginners.
05:32 Because you can pretty much use any other type of eyeliner.
05:35 And it'll be super easy.
05:37 Not saying this is really difficult.
05:39 But it's definitely going to be one
05:40 that's very rewarding in the long run of getting
05:43 a really great looking line that isn't going
05:46 to smudge all over the place.
05:48 Also, you're going to want to focus on the outer half being
05:51 thicker and having the line be gradually thinner as you go in.
05:55 So from this outer corner, I'm going in the same angle
05:58 as my lashes right here.
06:00 And that's the angle I'm going to pull up
06:03 this little wing at the end.
06:04 And then I'm going to bring this line in and create
06:07 a little wing.
06:08 If you're monolidded like me, I like
06:10 doing one extra step, which is to take the dark brown
06:13 eyeshadow.
06:14 And we're going to just blend this top edge.
06:16 So I'm doing this for a couple of reasons.
06:21 First of all, if you're monolidded,
06:23 then your eyes tend to be a little bit oily.
06:25 And it might smudge really easily.
06:26 So that'll help set the eyeliner in place.
06:29 Also, when your eyes are open and you're monolidded,
06:31 sometimes you can't see the eyeliner line.
06:34 So this helps to extend it up while still having
06:37 it look a little bit more natural than just having
06:39 the actual eyeliner go all the way up here
06:42 and having a big black hole on your eye.
06:44 Next, I'm going to curl my eyelashes.
06:46 I really think this is an invaluable step.
06:49 And if you want a full video on my mascara routine
06:52 and how to get really perfect lashes,
06:54 I'll leave an annotation right over here
06:56 so you can click that and check it out.
06:57 But right now, I'm going to do those very steps
07:00 to get really full lashes.
07:02 For mascara, I like using a waterproof formula
07:05 because that seems to hold lashes up if you've curled them,
07:09 if you have really straight lashes like I do.
07:11 And I like to tilt my head backwards like this.
07:13 And I just wiggle them from the root of the lashes
07:16 and pull upward.
07:17 And that usually seems to help me not get mascara
07:20 all over myself.
07:21 The mascara I'm using is CoverGirl Lash Blast
07:25 Volume Waterproof.
07:26 I'm also adding a little bit of mascara to my lower lashes.
07:29 And I'm really going to just focus this on the outer half.
07:32 If you want to have a really dolly look,
07:34 you can do this all the way around as well.
07:37 But for day to day, I like making my eyes
07:39 look a little bit fanned out at the edges.
07:41 Finally, for the eyes, I'm going to fill in my eyebrows.
07:44 So I'm just taking this Rimmel pencil.
07:46 And I'm going to do little strokes
07:48 to fill in any sparseness.
07:50 Just draw them in like you're drawing little tiny hairs
07:54 to fill in your entire eyebrow.
07:55 It's so important to keep brows groomed
07:57 because it really does frame your face.
07:59 And it makes you look a lot more put together.
08:02 Now I'm just going to finish off my face with a blush.
08:05 This is Milani's Luminoso.
08:07 I kind of go for a peach color because I
08:10 feel like that's a great everyday warm color on me.
08:13 But on your skin, it might be a pink or a little bit more
08:16 of a bronzy color.
08:17 Just try to choose whatever looks most natural on you
08:20 and comfortable for you to wear every day.
08:22 So I'm just taking this angled brush.
08:23 This is the Sigma F40.
08:25 I'm going to start over here at the top of my cheekbones
08:28 near my ears.
08:29 I'm going to just press this in little circular motions,
08:32 bringing it toward the center of my cheeks.
08:34 That'll just help it to blend softly forward so that you
08:38 don't have racer stripes and you don't have little circles
08:41 on the front of your cheeks either.
08:42 This just gives a really nice, natural looking flush.
08:45 The last step of the face is the lips.
08:47 So depending on your preference, you can either go for a lipstick
08:51 like this.
08:51 This is the Revlon lipstick in Peach Parfait.
08:54 I absolutely love this for every day.
08:56 Or you can go with a gloss.
08:57 This is my current obsession.
08:59 It's the NYX Butter Gloss in Sugar Cookie.
09:02 So that's what I'm going to use today.
09:04 So I'm just dabbing this in the center of my lips.
09:08 And then I'm blending it out.
09:09 So this is the final look.
09:14 Thank you guys so much for watching.
