Culture Wars: The rise of book bans in the US

In schools and libraries around the US, there has been an increase in challenges to books and instructional materials. Between July 1, 2021, and March 31, 2018, there were 1586 book bans in schools, according to PEN America, a group that advocates for free speech. More than 40% of those books had characters who were persons of color as the main characters, and more than 30% of them had LGBTQ themes.
