05:55 -That's one thing I think Sanchez needs to do
05:57 is start to jab his way in.
05:58 He's not jabbing. He's following Gonzalez around,
06:01 but he's not using the jab to kind of disrupt
06:04 the rhythm of Gonzalez.
06:05 So Gonzalez gets to a nice little groove
06:07 and then punches at those different angles,
06:08 and Sanchez gets troubled.
06:10 But I tell you, when Sanchez punches in between,

06:50 I mean, I think it would help him tremendously
06:53 in terms of breaking up the rhythm of Gonzalez.
06:55 Even when he's using it, he's just kind of placing it out there.
06:57 He needs to snap that jab out a little bit
06:59 and disrupt the rhythm of Gonzalez.
07:01 -Sanchez in the fighter meetings yesterday
07:02 said that he was going to be aggressive and go forward.
07:04 I was surprised that he said that.
07:06 I thought it was a little bit gamesmanship,

08:45 I was thinking, "Wow, round three?"
08:47 -Yeah. A lot of action in the first two.
08:50 -See, Gonzalez uses that snappy jab,
08:55 and what it does is it prevents Sanchez
08:58 from setting up any offense at all.
08:59 See, Sanchez sort of waits too long.
09:01 He snapped out a jab there, but see now,
09:03 you see what it forces Gonzalez to do,

09:43 Yeah, these -- Yo, these guys like to fight.
09:45 They are rough.
09:47 Haven't seen a lot of body shots from either man,
09:51 but Sanchez landed a really good left hook
09:52 and seemed to take some of the wind
09:54 out of the sails of Gonzalez.
09:56 -Which was in your keys of victory there,
09:58 Paulie, for Sanchez.

10:02 you want to take that gas tank down a little bit.
10:05 -Yeah. -Been about a year to the date,
10:09 guys, since Sanchez lost the 10-round split decision
10:13 to Eros Correa.
10:17 -Another thing, once you can take the sails
10:18 out of his gas tank with the body shots,
10:19 it'll also make him not move as much, as well,
10:22 you know, with that head movement and whatnot.
10:24 'Cause as you get tired, start throwing stuff overboard,
10:26 stuff you won't use, you know?
10:27 And the things I prefer to start to go with
10:29 are the rhythmic stuff, you know?
10:30 'Cause you got to punch, so that'll go last.
10:32 -People don't think about how fainting and head movement
10:35 are actually tiring.
10:36 And if you're hurt to the body, like you said,
10:39 those are gonna go out the window.
10:42 -Sneaky little uppercut, but Sanchez starting to showcase
10:46 more of his offense as the fight continues.
10:49 -Double right-handed from Gonzalez.
10:51 Threw one over the top and then one straight.
10:53 Fell a little bit short.
10:54 -Again, for me, Sanchez should be jabbing there.
10:56 He doesn't jab.
10:57 He takes the hook for his trouble.
11:00 -I like how Gonzalez, even though there's not jabs
11:01 coming at him, he's using head movement
11:03 to mask his initial offense.
11:05 -And he uses his own jab off that rhythm.
11:08 -Aye.
11:09 Loads up on a big left hook when he rolls out.
11:12 -Just missed with the counter left hook.

12:00 -Right.
12:03 -That was the shot Gonzalez landed there.
12:05 That was a good body shot there.
12:06 That was the one where Sanchez looked for Gonzalez

12:11 -On your left side!

12:40 on frequent occasion early in this fight.

12:45 -More so in this fight than I've seen in his past.
12:47 He's really putting it together really nicely.

13:02 -Gonzalez fighting now with his hands down,

13:17 Virtually identical, but not identical.
13:20 -Mm-hmm.
13:21 [ Crowd shouting ]
13:25 -A lot of movement by Gonzalez, as you guys talked about.
13:28 -But he's punching off the movement, you know?
13:29 And what it does to him is also it's preventing Sanchez
13:32 from getting off.
13:33 Because Sanchez is clearly the guy that has to be playing
13:34 to the punch, and he's not able to set himself
13:37 to throw off, get off enough punches
13:38 for me to win these rounds.
13:40 -Ooh, big left hook from Sanchez.
13:41 -And he does set himself. He gets off those shots,
13:43 but he's not getting a chance to set,
13:46 and the chance he's getting to set
13:47 are a few more in between.
13:48 And that's why I think if he can put Gonzalez
13:49 out of position with a jab...
13:51 -One, two, three.
13:53 -Knockdown. -Four.
13:55 -There's a straight right hand to the body
13:56 and the feet of Gonzalez can never hurt.
13:59 -The problem I have with that one is his back foot slid out.
14:01 So it was kind of -- it might be wet back there or something.
14:05 That wasn't -- that wasn't a --
14:07 I mean, that wasn't even a thing with a balance problem.
14:10 That was literally -- I think the canvas was wet there.
14:13 -I don't know, 'cause he has --
14:14 he's thrown a couple punches like that
14:15 where he had one foot off the ground
14:16 and kind of slid out.
14:18 'Cause he does that little bouncy movement.
14:21 -Well, see, now if it ends up coming to close --
14:23 Right now, I think Gonzalez is comfortably ahead,
14:24 'cause he's just -- he's finding more rhythmic shots
14:28 than is Sanchez, but, of course,
14:29 he's still got more than half the fight to go,
14:31 and he's burning a lot of energy.
14:32 See, I'll tell you one thing.
14:33 If anything, Sanchez at least conserving energy
14:35 and could come back to get an advantage later in the fight.
14:38 Who knows? -I mean, conserving,
14:40 yes, but he's also missing -- missing some of these shots,
14:42 'cause Gonzalez is being tricky.
14:43 But, yeah, he's definitely not putting out as much juice
14:47 as Gonzalez, who's moving, rolling his shoulders,
14:49 and throwing bombs.
14:51 -Before the fight almost a year ago
14:53 to the date against Korea,
14:55 Sanchez had a six-fight win streak,
14:57 and four of those wins were finishes.
15:01 So those were four of his 11 career wins by knockout.
15:05 -Right side of Gonzalez's face is starting to get busted up.
15:09 Outside the eye, above the eye, nose, a little bit of blood.
15:12 -Yeah, that's that left hook of Sanchez, right?
15:15 Maybe even the jab?
15:16 -Heavy jab from Gonzalez.
15:19 -He has caught him with a few left hooks,
15:21 but the right hand has had the most effect
15:23 when he lands them on the chin.
15:24 Ooh.
15:29 Ay, big left hook.
15:31 -That won't help the swelling.
15:32 -Yeah.
15:34 [ Applause ]
15:36 -You're only looking for one punch.
15:43 [ Speaking Spanish ]
15:45 How are we feeling?
15:50 -Hot. My eyes are good.
15:52 -Yeah, everything's good.
15:54 But don't look for one punch.
15:56 Listen, you got to get to that body a little bit more.
15:59 -Well, both these guys are going to know
16:00 they were in a fight tomorrow.
16:02 -Big shots, heavy shots landed by both men.
16:04 There we see a replay of the scored knockdown.
16:07 Let's see what -- We can see the feet here.
16:10 Gonzalez lands a right hand.
16:11 -Yeah, I think you're right there, champ.
16:13 That looked more like a slip.
16:14 -I mean, there was a punch on the end.
16:15 You know, he did go down on the end of a punch,
16:17 but it seemed like his leg slid out.
16:18 -Slipped out.
16:20 [ Whistle blows ]
16:21 -Stick is out.
16:23 -That was a little bit of a better angle to see
16:24 from where we're sitting.
16:27 And there wasn't a complaint from Gonzalez either,
16:29 which kind of threw a wrench a little bit, yeah.
16:32 -The battle continues.

17:03 -Yeah, I do my homework, man.
17:05 I've been watching these guys all week.
17:08 -Oof, a good, sharp, hard right hand from Gonzalez.
17:11 [ Indistinct shouting ]
17:16 -Sanchez has landed effectively, as well.
17:20 Right on cue, made me look good there, guys.
17:22 -Sharp counter, right hand by Sanchez.
17:24 Good timing shot.
17:25 You know, Gonzalez sometimes has a tendency
17:26 to kind of jump in there,
17:28 and he looked like he kind of jumped in with that jab.
17:30 And right over the top came Sanchez.
17:33 Good timing shot. -Yeah, timed it nice.
17:34 He punched right across the shoulders.
17:38 -Sanchez, instead of Gonzalez, he waits a lot.
17:40 He's a counter puncher.
17:42 To win, Sanchez told us, "He's just got to be me.
17:45 Just got to be himself, put the pressure on him,
17:47 and go to the body."
17:49 -You sure Sanchez wasn't talking about himself?
17:50 -Yeah, I was going to say, that sounds more like himself.
17:52 And, actually, Gonzalez hasn't been waiting on anything.
17:54 He's moving, firing all night long.
17:56 -And, so, Sanchez has landed some good shots
17:57 in between Gonzalez here and there in this fight,
17:59 including that counter right hand earlier in the round,
18:02 and even a few times earlier in this fight.
18:04 Since, again, it's been too few and far between,
18:06 but when he's gotten those shots in between,
18:08 they've landed beautifully.
18:11 -Both the left hand and the right hand from Sanchez.
18:13 He's timed them really well.
18:14 -Good combination a moment ago by Saul Sanchez.
18:19 -You know what I like about Sanchez,
18:20 even though he's had some trouble
18:22 finding Gonzalez at times, he's never lost interest.
18:25 He's never got discouraged by the shots.
18:28 He's just waiting for his shot.
18:29 -Yeah, yeah, and he's consistently brought
18:31 that pressure, so that's at least caused mental stress
18:34 on Gonzalez, make Gonzalez feel like he's got to fight
18:36 his way out of trouble constantly,
18:38 and that can wear him out later in the fight.
18:39 Who knows? We'll see.
18:40 -Yeah, Gonzalez seems to be in fantastic shape,
18:41 but we're only in the fifth round.
18:44 Still a lot more fight to go.
18:47 -These men know each other,
18:49 have been in the same training facility together,
18:51 spartan a little bit.
18:55 Franklin said, and I quote, "He needs to know about me.
18:58 I don't need to know about him."
19:01 30 seconds, round five.
19:04 Tenth 10-rounder scheduled for Franklin Gonzalez.
19:10 He has gone the distance once.
19:12 That was a split decision setback
19:15 in February of last year.
19:17 Final seconds of the fifth.
19:24 -Oh, good counter shot there by Gonzalez,
19:26 and followed up with an uppercut of his own,
19:29 I mean, an uppercut and a combination of his own.
19:32 -For a guy with 25 wins, by the way, a knockout,
19:35 I mean, he's got some nice boxing skills as well.
19:37 -Good rhythm.
19:39 -Good reaction by Christopher Young at the end, too.
19:42 He blocked that punch.

20:03 -You're asking Gonzalez to see how things change
20:06 when you fight off your rhythm.
20:07 Just keep fighting off that rhythm.
20:09 -There we see that beautiful counter shot
20:14 from Sanchez over the top.
20:15 Beautiful timing, and Gonzalez is moving to his left --
20:18 his right earlier moved to his left.
20:20 Soon as he changed direction, Sanchez had him lined up
20:22 and caught him with that right hand.
20:24 -And also, he came in high.
20:25 Gonzalez usually does a good job of staying low, came up high,
20:28 and it was easy to find him over the top of that shot.
20:31 [ Bell dings ]
20:32 -Kipa and I on no pun intended on the eye of Saul Sanchez.
20:38 Lot of swelling. He talked to his corner about it.
20:41 After round number 5, round 6,
20:46 25-2, Franklin Gonzalez, 18-2, Saul Sanchez.
20:51 [ Crowd shouting ]
20:53 And again, we get ourselves a firefight.
20:56 [ Crowd shouting ]
20:59 -Sanchez. -Mental pressure that Sanchez
21:01 has started to -- was putting on earlier
21:03 now is starting to pay some dividends.
21:05 He's consistently going after Gonzalez,
21:07 and Gonzalez now making wider defensive moves
21:10 that are putting him in a position to get hit.
21:13 -And again, Sanchez has never been stopped.
21:17 Gonzalez has never been stopped.
21:22 And he's never won a fight that went the distance.
21:25 25 wins, 25 knockouts. -Ooh.
21:28 -Body shot followed up by the left.
21:30 -I think that body shot might have affected Gonzalez.
21:32 -It stopped him for a second, didn't it, Chris?
21:34 -Whoa!
21:36 -What a high jump.
21:38 -4, 5, 6, 7,
21:42 8. Walk to me, baby.
21:44 -That started with the body shot.
21:45 -All right. Box. -It was a right hand
21:46 to the body and then caught him in the middle
21:48 with the left hook.
21:49 There's an overhand right for good measure.
21:51 -Now Sanchez pushing forward.
21:54 -Oh, body shot again. -Down he goes again.
21:57 -Body shots are different. This could be it.
21:59 -5, 6, 7, 8. -And we saw him, yeah.
22:03 -We'll continue. Walk that way.
22:06 Come to me. Listen, one more knockdown.
22:08 You can face over. Box.
22:11 -Body shot.
22:13 What we talked about. He goes to the body again.
22:16 -That one is a touch low,
22:18 but the cup is starting to come up.
22:21 Sanchez has a great opportunity here.
22:23 -Yeah, it's been a long time.
22:25 Gonzalez and I have to find deceptive ways
22:28 to survive this round.
22:31 -It was that 3-second delay with the body shot,
22:34 Paulie and Chris, that we always talk about.
22:37 With Gonzalez and Sanchez seized the moment.
22:39 -Oh, that was it. -Down he goes again.
22:41 And it is all over.
22:43 Sol Sanchez finishes Franklin Gonzalez.
22:48 -Wow, and Gonzalez, you know what?
22:49 Even he knows. You know what?
22:51 The referee told me three times that I'm done.
22:52 -Yeah, but he wasn't going to get him anyway.
22:53 -And you know what, man? This was it.
22:56 Spit out the mouthpiece and everything.
22:57 I mean, I think -- You know, you got to credit Sanchez.
23:00 We can criticize him for not getting off enough shots.
23:02 He was processing everything.
23:04 When he was getting -- That timing early in the fight,
23:08 you saw it here and there,
23:09 but it wasn't nearly enough to win the rounds, right?
23:11 And then you started seeing it more and more and more
23:13 as he was processing.
23:14 He was starting to get off more shots in between Gonzalez.
23:16 That last body shot knockdown, the one that ended the fight,
23:19 again, was just as Gonzalez was throwing.
23:21 Slip, counter to the body.
23:23 I mean, Sanchez built up to this.
23:25 You got to give him credit.
23:26 Because even I wasn't seeing it, and I was saying,
23:28 "You know, he's got to get off more shots."
23:29 But really, Sanchez was seeing exactly what he wanted to see,
23:32 and he knew he was going to start upping the pace
23:35 as he saw the openings fit to be thrown at.
23:38 -Here, we're going to see all three.
23:40 The one that started all the trouble
23:41 was a straight right hand, very, very short.
23:43 You saw Gonzalez stay, I think, an extra beat down there.
23:45 I saw that he was hurt, and then there's a left hook.
23:48 That was a good shot, too. -Yeah, they got the same shot there.
23:49 -But it's right in the middle, like you said.
23:51 Oof, right underneath the elbow
23:52 as he's throwing his right hand a little bit wide.
23:55 Here's the second knockdown.
23:58 Straight right hand, and then that's a left hook
23:59 right around the elbow.
24:01 Nasty, nasty shot.
24:02 And especially once he's already been hit to the body and down.
24:04 -Yeah, now he's trying to recover.
24:05 -Then you hit him right in the middle of the punch.
24:08 And Gonzalez just got up.
24:09 You could have gave him a 35 count.
24:10 He wasn't beating that.
24:12 -And again, a good timing shot in that last one.
24:15 Again, Sanchez, the concentration
24:17 to start to lead more
24:19 as he realized he was seeing the openings
24:20 and also stay on those counters
24:22 that he was seeing earlier in the fight.
24:24 -Great fight. Back-and-forth action.
24:26 Gonzalez put up a great fight up until that point.
24:29 Sanchez, like you said, processing everything,
24:31 looking for his spots, chipping away, chipping away.
24:35 Awesome, awesome fight.
24:36 -So, Sanchez never got stopped.
24:39 You jinxed him. -I know.
24:41 -I mean, Gonzalez never got stopped.
24:42 -That's right. I jinxed him.
24:44 Sanchez, though, he said to win.
24:47 -Thank God I didn't jinx the fight, though.
24:48 It was a good fight. -Go to the body.
24:49 Yeah. You did pick the fight.
24:50 -I mean, I think you said it in the last round, too.
24:52 Did you say that? -I did. Yes.
24:54 -The second round, you said he never got stopped.
24:56 The guy got stopped with three knockdowns.
24:59 -30 seconds later, the fight's over.
25:00 -So it's kind of my fault. -I'm not gonna tell him.
25:02 I won't tell him if you don't tell him.
25:04 He hits hard. Don't tell him, please.
25:06 [ Crowd shouting ]
25:09 I'll tell you what.
25:10 What a spectacular main event of the evening.
25:13 Both men with ill intentions.
25:15 -These guys started guns blazing from round number one.
25:18 Gonzalez looked like to be the slicker guy.
25:20 He was landing some big shots at Guse,
25:22 champ Sanchez biding his time, analyzing, taking big shots.
25:25 He looked like he could have been in trouble at times.
25:27 There we see Clippen Gonzalez,
25:28 early hurting him with that straight right hand,
25:30 punching with Gonzalez.
25:32 And then he started to time him a little bit.
25:34 A little bit here, a little bit there.
25:35 Sanchez saw him smiling when he landed that left hook
25:37 to the liver, knew he had him there.
25:39 That was really the difference,
25:40 was I think the body work from Sanchez.
25:41 That was the one thing Gonzalez was not able to do
25:43 all night long.
25:44 Sanchez was able to capitalize and build on the body work.
25:46 -And it's subtle. The body work is subtle.
25:48 It stayed -- Two shots in the bank, it's subtle,
25:51 and they were all so precise.
25:53 I mean, Sanchez doesn't even have to throw them so hard.
25:55 -That wasn't a hard shot at all.
25:56 -You just throw them precise.
25:57 And as the fight weighs on, they have more and more effect
26:00 'cause you already have a naturally tiring fighter.
26:02 The guy like Gonzalez fights at a high rhythm,
26:04 moving all over the place and everything.
26:06 So you start touching him a little bit to the body.
26:07 Those body shots by the mid-round
26:08 are starting to affect him,
26:09 and we saw what the results were.
26:11 -Great main event to make it official.
26:17 Here is Mark Lichtenfeld.
26:19 -Ladies and gentlemen, this bout comes to a halt at 2 minutes,
26:23 3 seconds of the 6th round due to the three-knockdown rule.
26:28 Your winner by technical knockout,
26:30 el ganador por knockout tecnico, Saul "The Beast" Sanchez!
26:41 [ Cheers and applause ]
26:43 -Big win for Sanchez, the first man to finish,
26:49 Franklin Gonzalez, who truly came out.
26:53 Guns a-blazin', Sanchez weathered the storm,
26:57 then he started to get into his head.
