07:13 - This is why, even as a young prospect,
07:15 you want to invest in a quality cut man
07:17 because you might be faced with situations like this,
07:21 which are so important and crucial to your development.
07:24 - And again, Green has so much combat experience.
07:25 He stays so calm.
07:27 You see, and he counters in awkward ways.
07:30 He counters with the left hand straight,
07:31 he's countering with the left hand around the side.
07:33 And it's sort of confused Russ
07:35 in terms of what direction the shots
07:37 are coming back at him from.
07:39 'Cause he's also trying to get back the points
07:41 and get the rounds back and trying to chase him down.
07:43 But it's very difficult when you got a guy
07:44 who moves awkwardly and punches awkwardly like Green.
07:47 - So no, bleeding from the nose of one,
07:52 Gordie Russ II.
07:55 - You see shots here.
07:59 You see a sharp one-two here from Green
08:01 just down the middle.
08:02 And that's where Green will really throw you off.
08:04 'Cause he'll throw some awkward wide shots
08:07 that will come at you from weird angles and will hit you.
08:09 And then all of a sudden,
08:10 he can also go back to a conventional shot
08:13 like a one-two, even from the south post stance,
08:16 and a little sharp one-two
08:17 and get you right down the middle.
08:18 And you see the crowd is totally shocked
08:20 at what they're watching as the undefeated prospect.
08:22 Right now, it's probably down two rounds to zero.
08:24 - Some blood streaming from the nose of Gordie Russ II.
08:27 - Also, I'll tell you, to be a pro debut
08:29 and a six-rounder instead of a four-rounder,
08:31 you had to figure something was up
08:32 with Green being that confident.
08:34 Usually, you're fighting four-rounders

08:54 But again, prospects like this can be tested
08:58 in the early stages of their careers.
09:00 Now, how will the 21-year-old from Detroit respond
09:04 as now he's dealing with some adversity,
09:07 probably for the first time in his career?
09:09 - Yeah, I think it's very imperative
09:11 that he has to win this round now.
09:12 He's got to take some of the momentum back here,
09:13 because otherwise, you're gonna be
09:14 at the halfway point of the fight.
09:16 Oh, another one-two there from Green.
09:17 You're gonna be at the halfway point of the fight,
09:18 and you're gonna be down three rounds to zero.
09:20 You see Green's coming over the top of the roof for hooks.
09:22 You see Russ landed a partial right hand there,
09:25 but you see he's not throwing in combination.
09:26 Green's throwing in combination.
09:28 - And he's not throwing in combination.
09:30 - I think it is clear that Green doesn't mind being physical
09:34 based on his bare knuckle and also his MMA background.
09:39 - Yeah, and Russ sometimes is getting too close.
09:41 Now he's getting frustrated.
09:43 He's either smothering himself or he's reaching.
09:46 - Gordie Russ really pressing the issue in this third frame.
09:51 Couple of hooks that are missing,
09:53 and to his credit, Desmond Green ties up
09:55 and forces Gordie Russ to reset.
09:58 - And even to the credit of Russ,
10:00 he realizes he needs a statement in this round.
10:02 He's trying to chase it.
10:04 He's not been able to land anything clean yet.

10:40 at least bringing the fight to Green,
10:41 and even if he doesn't land anything crazy,
10:43 they both trade hooks there,
10:45 he may be able to win the round on the pressure
10:47 and hopefully, for his sake,
10:49 at least start to wear it down Green.
10:51 Although all the effort he's putting in,
10:53 he's not going to wear himself out.
10:54 - Well, Gordie Russ certainly in this third round, Paul,
10:57 he has suffocating offenses, I'll have to say.

11:04 trying to get that jab going,
11:05 which is not easy against a southpaw.

11:08 and he's trying to follow up with shots,
11:09 whether he misses or lands.

11:12 - Now, Gordie Russ having a solid third round,
11:15 and I think it puts him right back in the fight,
11:17 which is so important for him
11:19 as he's looking to protect that undefeated record.
11:23 - I think initially he probably came out and said,
11:25 "I want to stop this guy."
11:27 After the first two rounds, he's like,
11:28 "Wait a minute, I'm dealing with some adversity.
11:30 I just need to win this fight."
11:32 - Green is very, very alert, even on the inside.
11:35 You see that, he sees the shots coming.
11:38 It's hard to hit him completely clean
11:39 with the shots you want to hit him with.
11:41 Although driving him back consistently this round
11:44 may have been enough to get Russ the round.
11:47 - By the moment of round three,
11:51 we are halfway home with Gordie Russ II and Desmond Green.

19:14 you've got to change your fundamentals.
19:15 You can be a guy who fights on the back foot,
19:17 and your fundamentals are one way,
19:19 you know, more athleticism.
19:20 When you come forward, if you're gonna come forward,
19:22 you've got to change all those fundamentals.
19:23 It's got to be a mental, actually, decision you make.
19:27 I'm telling you, it's something I learned
19:29 until, like, later on in my career, man,
19:30 without the natural counterpunch.
19:31 Coming forward, I had to learn to, like,
19:33 have a higher guard in the moments I come forward.
