00:00 Hi, my name is Letitia and I'm going to show you how to put on a sari.
00:07 What you're going to need is your sari, which you're going to get your tailor to cut off a piece
00:12 and make you a nice blouse which fits according to the measurements that you like.
00:18 Make sure that the blouse is nice and fitting.
00:22 You also need a sari skirt, which again you can get your tailor to make,
00:26 but remember that the sari skirt should be fastened with a string.
00:31 And the string should be really tight because that's what's going to hold the entire sari together.
00:37 When you have your sari, you notice that one end of the sari has more pattern on it than the other end.
00:44 We're going to start with the opposite end to the pattern.
00:49 So we're starting on this side.
00:51 A handy tip is that right at the corner here, at the beginning of my sari, I put in a little knot.
00:58 This helps to hold the sari in place once you have it all together.
01:03 You start with exactly in the center where your belly button is,
01:08 and you put in the corner with your knot.
01:12 Just tuck it in.
01:15 It's really handy for you to be wearing your shoes right now,
01:18 because then you'll be able to see how long the sari should be.
01:22 You just go all the way around, tucking in while you're going around.
01:29 Once you reach your starting point, that's where you should be starting to make the pleats.
01:35 From my personal experience, I know that I should be making about 12 pleats, which are the length of my hand.
01:44 Pleating takes a bit of practice, and it usually helps if you have somebody there to hold the fabric up while you do the pleating.
01:54 If you don't have anybody there, that's fine as well.
01:58 You can do it by yourself. It's just going to take a bit longer and maybe a little more practice.
02:13 Once you have all your pleats all together like this,
02:18 take a safety pin and pin them all together like that,
02:24 because that just makes it a bit easier to handle.
02:27 Once you have all your pleats like this, you turn it around like so,
02:32 and then tuck it in right in the center.
02:41 Then all you've got to do is take the remaining fabric, go around once, and across.
02:49 Get somebody to pin it up right here for you at the back,
03:00 and then just set it on your left arm really nicely.
03:05 Put on some bangles, some jewelry, and a bindi, and you're ready to go.
