Join our African safari adventure to one of the best places on Earth to see free-range elephants: Amboseli National Park in Kenya!

We did a 3-day safari in Amboseli, finding elephants, zebras, elephants, flamingos, elephants, baboons, and even MORE elephants, before taking a tiny bush flight to our next stop...

We also spent an afternoon at a local Maasai village where they shared their traditional songs and famous high jump dance with us. Next we met with their medicine man, watched as the villagers started fire with sticks, and learned about how the Maasai build their houses (spoiler alert: they use animal poop for the walls!).

It was a fascinating trip both for its cultural highlights and the animal conservation and protection efforts that Amboseli has done so remarkably well. The local people truly care about protecting the animals and creating an incredible experience for everyone who has been lucky enough to travel to Amboseli.

Back story: We couldn't resist when we saw $500 flights to Kenya thanks to an alert from Scott's Cheap Flights. If you're looking for any information on how to find cheap flights, our Kenya safari itinerary (including Nairobi, Amboseli, Masai Mara and Diani Beach), malaria, vaccine requirements, costs, etc. head over to our blog: www.fernwehchronicles.com

Who are the “Fernweh Chronicles”? ...And what does “Fernweh” mean anyway?

Hi! We are Georg, Tara, Liv and Bodhi and Fernweh is our way of life. It’s German (so is Georg) and it means a longing for far off places, or literally “far sickness”.
Georg and I met while we were each solo-traveling through Central America, many countries and adventures later we have two beautiful children, Liv and Bodhi, who are full of wanderlust just like their parents. We make every effort possible to bring them around the world and introduce them to new cultures, languages, people, and food, and hope to shape their personalities early on to be globally minded little ones.
