00:02 - Right, this is Trick Cyclist by Andy Norman Sol.
00:12 It's a great effect to use when you're doing your strolling
00:16 or table hopping magic.
00:18 It gets three people involved.
00:19 Very, very quick reset.
00:22 For ease of explanation, we've had three cards
00:24 already selected and signed, number one,
00:25 number two, number three.
00:27 So Chris, select one of those cards and pop it back.
00:29 - Yep.
00:30 - Sort of about halfway down, yeah?
00:31 - Yes.
00:32 - Perfect.
00:33 We'll do the same again.
00:34 If you pop another one back.
00:37 - In it goes.
00:37 - Great.
00:38 And the third one, just pop back there.
00:42 - In it goes.
00:43 - That's lovely.
00:43 And we'll give the deck just a couple of cuts
00:44 to make sure they're lost.
00:45 - Yes.
00:46 - As well as those three cards going in the pack,
00:48 what we need to show you is the Joker,
00:51 which is gonna be used for this effect.
00:52 - On his bike.
00:53 - On his bike.
00:54 He's a little bit of an acrobat.
00:56 He's gonna go into my pocket.
00:58 And with empty hands, all I have to do is snap my fingers
01:01 and the Joker jumps straight out of my pocket
01:03 and straight into the deck face up.
01:05 Yeah?
01:08 - Quite the elite acrobat.
01:09 - He is.
01:10 Now if we, where he is, the card directly under him
01:13 happens to be selection number one.
01:15 - Oh hey.
01:16 First one.
01:17 - First one down.
01:19 The Joker, once again, will go into my pocket.
01:22 And it's very important you realise at this point,
01:26 he doesn't actually jump into the pack.
01:28 Yeah?
01:29 - No, there's nothing.
01:30 - There's nothing.
01:31 - No.
01:32 - Not until we snap our fingers.
01:33 Remember, he's not in here,
01:34 but just give your fingers a snap.
01:36 Just like that.
01:37 And this time, he appears back in the pack
01:40 somewhere near the top.
01:41 - Yes, there he is.
01:42 - Trying to find selection number two,
01:44 which should be directly under him.
01:47 - There it is.
01:49 - Yeah?
01:50 - Nice.
01:51 - Once again, the Joker will go into my pocket.
01:55 And this time, we'll give him a snap.
01:57 A little flick.
01:59 - Oh.
02:03 Maybe the flick.
02:05 - Maybe the flick.
02:05 No, hang on, he's still in my pocket for some strange reason.
02:08 Oh look, the little tinker's actually fallen off his bike,
02:11 which means he can't do any more acrobatics.
02:13 And now it's left for me to find the last selected card.
02:17 - Yes.
02:18 - And I can do that in a very magical way
02:19 by showing my hand empty.
02:20 Clicking my fingers, one card invisibly jumps
02:24 from that pack straight into my pocket,
02:29 which happens to be selection number three,
02:31 the signed two of spades.
02:34 - That's great.
02:35 - And that is Trick Cyclist.
02:36 Very, very easy to do.
02:38 Comes with special cards and full instructions.
02:42 Add it to your normal regular deck.
02:44 You can now carry on performing all your magic
02:46 with this deck all night,
02:47 and the reset is very, very quick.
02:50 That's Trick Cyclist.
02:51 (dramatic music)
02:54 Thank you for purchasing Trick Cyclist.
02:56 What you have in your hands now
02:58 is a fantastic commercial routine by Andrew Normansole.
03:03 When Andrew first showed me this,
03:04 he had two phases to the routine,
03:06 which was the two first cards being found with the jokers.
03:10 I added the no palm third phase,
03:12 which I thought brought it to a really nice sort of climax.
03:14 - It's a nice way to end it as well.
03:16 - The other nice thing about the no palm climax
03:18 is the fact that you're so far ahead,
03:20 you could, as you were discussing, place it in a-
03:24 - Put it in a card to wallet or something,
03:25 and have the wallet in play very early
03:27 as part of the routine.
03:29 Put the joker, I'll bet you a five,
03:31 I'll bet you all the money in my wallet,
03:31 that he can jump back out.
03:33 And it's quite nice, 'cause the wallet's on the table
03:35 all the time, you don't go near it.
03:36 In fact, you could even go to the point
03:37 where you hold onto my wallet,
03:39 so they've got it in their hands.
03:40 - Yeah, from the beginning, in fact.
03:41 - From the beginning.
03:43 It's a very clever ending.
03:44 There's a lot of possibilities to play around with.
03:46 - Now what you've received in your pack
03:49 are two very, very special jokers.
03:51 These have been printed by the USPCC,
03:53 so they're a perfect color match.
03:55 On two of these cards, you've got a half back design,
04:00 half joker design, and on the reverse,
04:02 you've got a back design.
04:04 - Well done, nicely done, yeah.
04:06 - And the third card is a very comical
04:08 joker falling off its bike,
04:10 designed by Adrian Gower of Monster Creations.
04:12 Once again, printed by the USPCC,
04:15 so it's a perfect color match.
04:17 Right, set up.
04:19 You need to get yourself a standard pack of cards.
04:22 You need the joker.
04:27 And with these two cards,
04:29 you want to place them on the bottom of the deck,
04:32 but you want the top card,
04:36 these are gonna be opposite ways, if that makes sense.
04:39 - Yeah, so you've got them set for the spreading later,
04:40 so they're opposite way round.
04:41 - And the second one, sorry, the top one
04:44 will be on the left-hand side.
04:45 - So the first selection's gonna be the first one
04:47 that's found.
04:48 - Yeah. - Yep.
04:49 - Okay, and on top of that, you drop the deck,
04:52 and then on the bottom of the deck,
04:53 you pop the regular joker.
04:55 - Yeah.
04:55 - Okay, so that's your setup.
04:57 This would also be inside my pocket.
05:02 If I'm wearing jeans, it'll be in my back pocket,
05:03 if I'm wearing a jacket, it'll be in my side pocket,
05:06 but we're gonna use the table as a pocket at the moment.
05:10 So this joker is in my side pocket,
05:13 closest to my body, obviously, or facing my body.
05:15 - So this would be like the body here, so that's the...
05:17 - Okay, now you have three cards selected.
05:20 Before you do that, sorry, when I get the deck out,
05:23 I don't show them there's a joker there,
05:24 but I usually do a risk kill, put the joker on the table,
05:27 or as you mentioned to me earlier.
05:29 - You could just stuff it in your pocket or something.
05:30 - Yeah, yeah, just have it hanging out.
05:33 Right, so that's done.
05:36 Then we get a card selected.
05:41 - Yep, so you get three cards selected.
05:43 Number one, number two, three.
05:44 - Okay, and there really isn't any false.
05:46 Now the move you're gonna perform here,
05:47 remember you're in that situation
05:49 with these two jokers on the bottom.
05:51 Now while the cards are getting signed,
05:53 you do a sort of swing cut.
05:55 You're just cutting the top block off.
05:58 But what happens, you're gonna perform
05:59 Harry Lorraine's halo cut.
06:02 So this finger will hit the bottom card here,
06:05 one of the gaff jokers, and as you halo cut off here,
06:09 you steal that bottom card with it.
06:12 - It's just friction dragging it over.
06:13 - Yeah, okay.
06:15 So you've now got a pile that's come off the top
06:17 with one of those gaff jokers.
06:18 - Displace it, yep.
06:19 - Yep.
06:20 So one of the selection goes back here.
06:23 - This one goes back.
06:24 - Yep, and then this whole part of the pack
06:27 now drops on top.
06:30 - Yep, no break or anything, nothing.
06:31 - No break.
06:32 Now for the second selection,
06:33 just swing cut about a third of the deck.
06:36 - Number two.
06:37 - Yeah, because remember, you've got another gaff here.
06:40 This goes on top, just like so, no break.
06:44 Now for the third and final card,
06:47 what you wanna do is just get yourself
06:48 a little finger break,
06:50 and as you're sort of cutting it there,
06:54 because all you're gonna do is you're gonna swing cut over
06:58 and you're gonna perform a double undercut.
07:00 But the problem is, if I was to swing cut here
07:02 and suddenly hit a gaff card--
07:03 - Yeah, you don't wanna see one of the half-hinted jokers.
07:05 - Yeah.
07:06 - You might as well just go home.
07:07 - Yeah, that's it.
07:09 So what I do is I get a pinky break
07:13 and I can just see directly in there
07:14 and make sure that's not one of my gaff cards.
07:16 When I'm ready, I push up and then swing cut over.
07:20 - And then have the last one placed back.
07:22 - Okay.
07:23 Then this pile goes on top,
07:25 but holding a little finger break.
07:26 And now I double undercut this portion to the top.
07:32 Now if you don't wanna double undercut,
07:33 you can now just cut directly there--
07:36 - To the table.
07:37 - And place those on top,
07:38 but if you're in a walk-around situation,
07:39 you double undercut.
07:40 But once again, as you sort of get your first break
07:43 for your double undercut, peek inside to make sure--
07:47 - You're not gonna hit that joker.
07:48 - Yeah, okay?
07:49 So double undercut here and here.
07:52 Now we're in a situation where we've got
07:55 two of the selections.
07:57 Above them are the two gaff jokers,
07:59 and the very top card will be the third and final selection.
08:01 - Yeah.
08:02 - Now this is where the no palm card to pocket bit comes in
08:05 because I now gesture to the card
08:09 that I left on the table at the beginning.
08:11 As I gesture here, I do a get ready here.
08:13 This thumb just pushes one card off
08:15 and pulls it back, holding a break.
08:17 - Yeah.
08:18 - So it's literally just on, off.
08:20 Show the card as a joker.
08:23 Explain that the joker's gonna do all the magic for us.
08:28 Now I reach in, take the joker,
08:30 but I've actually got both cards,
08:32 the selection and the joker.
08:33 - Yeah.
08:34 - Yeah?
08:35 That will go in my pocket,
08:37 and if you imagine that this joker,
08:39 the gaff joker, is against my body,
08:41 this is going behind it.
08:42 - So the outer side of it, yeah?
08:44 - Yeah.
08:45 - Yeah.
08:46 - Okay, so that's our situation.
08:47 We've got the gaff joker, their signed selection,
08:49 and the regular joker.
08:50 - Yeah.
08:51 - Okay?
08:52 Now I say I'm gonna clip my fingers.
08:54 The joker's gonna jump out of my pocket,
08:56 jump into the pack, and find the first selection.
08:59 Believe it or not, it's a miracle.
09:01 All you have to do now is spread the cards,
09:03 and you'll see that one joker is turned up,
09:07 and there really is only one card face up here.
09:09 - You can spread that fairly far, can't you?
09:10 - Yeah, 'cause you've got--
09:11 - You don't wanna go too far.
09:12 - No, but you've got half the joker's width to do it.
09:16 Now when you're in this situation,
09:17 obviously if you're doing it walk around,
09:19 you can just do it between the hands anyway.
09:21 And now for the clean up,
09:22 which is a beautiful clean up move,
09:25 you've gotta do it in the hands anyway.
09:26 So you can spread them on the table,
09:27 show the joker, reassemble the deck,
09:31 now come out.
09:33 Now when you, have I missed it?
09:35 - Yeah, he's sneaking up, there it is.
09:38 - When I'm here, I pick up all the cards above the joker,
09:42 including the joker, if that makes sense.
09:44 This will be the selection, so I can just flip that over.
09:48 So that's selection number one.
09:50 - The first effect.
09:52 - Now for the clean up, it's a lovely move.
09:54 All you do is you turn your right hand palm down,
09:59 with your left thumb, steal off that gaff joker.
10:01 These go back on top.
10:05 And just strip that out.
10:07 That will go straight into the pocket.
10:09 - Always keeping it out of most.
10:11 - Yeah, always keeping it out of most.
10:13 Yep, so now you're in a brilliant position,
10:16 because if I'm doing this sit down,
10:18 I can actually spread these on the table again
10:21 to prove there are no face up jokers.
10:23 And once again if I'm doing it walk around,
10:27 I can show like this, there is no face up joker.
10:30 Now what we need to do is turn the deck round.
10:34 - This is a nice way of doing it.
10:35 - So all you do is you say now,
10:37 remember there are no face up jokers.
10:39 So you fan them and then you just close the fan.
10:41 - It's very subtle to reverse it,
10:43 otherwise you'd be turning around.
10:44 It doesn't matter, turning around is still okay to do,
10:46 but it's just a really nice way of doing it.
10:48 - Yeah, it just makes it quite nice and invisible.
10:52 Now the other jokers face up at this point.
10:55 So you've done the same thing, you put a joker in,
10:57 you've said look, snap my fingers,
10:59 bang, he's gonna jump out.
11:01 - Yep.
11:02 - So we have to do the same thing to clean up again.
11:05 So we go through in our hands, find the joker,
11:09 flip over, selection number two.
11:13 He goes down, do your clean up move again.
11:15 Bang, take him out.
11:19 He goes in the pocket, remember outermost again.
11:22 Now you're done, you're so far ahead now.
11:25 You can say at this point, I can just turn around
11:29 and say look, let's really put him to work.
11:32 Take hold of the deck and give the deck a shuffle.
11:34 Let's see if he can still do it.
11:37 - 'Cause they might say at this point,
11:38 once you've done it twice, oh can you do it
11:40 while I'm holding the deck, can I shuffle?
11:42 So at this point, be very free.
11:44 - So they've shuffled the deck,
11:46 you can really make a big point
11:47 'cause you're so far ahead here.
11:49 So they've shuffled the deck and you say,
11:50 look, he's gonna do it again.
11:52 Snap your fingers, bang, oh he hasn't done it.
11:56 Tap your pocket and say oh.
11:58 - It's still there.
11:59 - I think he's still there, let's have a look.
12:00 Now you take the innermost card,
12:01 the one closest to your body.
12:02 - Yeah, so these will be upwards in your pocket
12:04 like that at this stage.
12:04 - So that's there.
12:05 - So it's easy to get to it.
12:06 - So you take the innermost one,
12:08 which will be the gaff joker.
12:10 And it's just a little gag, no wonder he can't go in there,
12:12 he's fallen off his bike, ha ha ha.
12:16 - It's important when you go in to get it
12:17 that you show your hand really clear,
12:18 it can be empty.
12:19 - Always show your hand empty.
12:21 So that's done, you can leave that on the table
12:24 and then say well look, obviously he can't find your card
12:26 so I'm gonna find your card.
12:27 Just do it in a really magical way.
12:30 With empty hands all I have to do is that, bang,
12:33 reach into my pocket and once again this time
12:35 it's gonna be the innermost card again.
12:37 You reach in very cleanly, take out the card,
12:40 turn it round and you have signed selection number three.
12:45 - That's nice and the gag card's very good
12:46 and it's good you go in to get it.
12:48 I think that's a nice way of getting the deck
12:49 into their hands at the last phase
12:51 'cause you can tap your pocket
12:52 so you can just hold the deck for a minute
12:53 if you haven't got one to shuffle it.
12:54 Show your hands empty, go and take the joker out.
12:56 And now you can leave it at all intents and purposes
12:58 and it's gonna go from the deck between their hands
13:00 to your pocket. - Into your pocket.
13:01 - Which is quite, it's a very valid,
13:03 you know, very astonishing card.
13:04 - Yeah, people just can't backtrack.
13:06 It was so long ago you got that card in your pocket.
13:11 - And once they've got that deck
13:11 they just assume that you haven't,
13:13 you don't know where it is at this stage.
13:14 So when they've got their shuffling
13:15 they're gonna really be convinced
13:17 that there's no way you can find it.
13:19 - So that is Trick Cyclist.
13:20 I mean obviously there's loads of other ways
13:22 to do it and clean up.
13:24 You can use Himba wallets.
13:26 You know, there's loads of ways to do it
13:28 but I just find that the simple approach,
13:30 for me, doing this walk around on table hopping is great.
13:33 - And so how would you,
13:34 now that's left in your pocket like that.
13:36 So really all you've gotta do is grab those out
13:38 'cause you've just got the regular joker.
13:40 Grab those out, just pop that on the bottom
13:43 and then drop your deck on top
13:44 and you're ready to do it all over again.
13:45 And that's it and it's quickly ready to go.
13:47 - Spin one of those around.
13:48 - Spin one of them around.
13:49 So that's actually a very quick,
13:50 it's very quick to reset as well
13:51 for a walk around situation.
13:53 Yeah, as you're walking to the next group
13:54 it's gonna be quite easy to get going again.
13:58 - And that's a trig cyclist.
