00:07 Hey, guys.
00:08 What's up?
00:08 It's Caleb Morelli here, and I've got something really cool
00:10 I want to share with you.
00:11 I call this Clinch, where you have the
00:13 spectator select a card.
00:15 They shuffle their card, and then you find their
00:18 card with your face.
00:20 All right, dude.
00:20 Check this out.
00:21 Take out any card that you want.
00:22 Any card.
00:23 OK.
00:28 Put your name on it, OK?
00:29 So you know there's only one of these cards in a day.
00:32 Really big, and then show it to the camera when you're done.
00:34 All right, man.
00:39 This is what we're going to do.
00:40 We're going to take your card right here.
00:43 Right there.
00:44 Yep.
00:44 Your card's going to slowly go inside the deck, just like
00:47 this.
00:48 I want you to take the cards.
00:49 OK, nothing inside my hands.
00:50 I want you to shuffle them up, OK?
00:51 Mix them up.
00:53 So once she mixes them up, there's no way I can find
00:55 them, right?
00:56 Just mix them up.
00:57 There you go.
00:58 She's mixing up the cards.
00:59 Check this out.
01:01 So the cards are out of my hands, right?
01:02 So there's no way I can find your card, right?
01:04 There's no way you can find it.
01:05 OK, so check this out.
01:06 This is what I'm going to do.
01:07 I'm going to actually go through, and I'm going to try
01:08 and-- say if I was to cut your card like this, right?
01:11 That's not your card.
01:11 That's not my card.
01:12 What I'm going to do is I'm going to go through the deck
01:13 like this, OK?
01:15 If I go like this, OK, you guys can see all the cards all at
01:17 once, right?
01:18 See that?
01:19 I'm going to try and pull her card out of the deck
01:20 while they go by.
01:21 Watch this.
01:22 All right.
01:26 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:30 Fucking shit.
01:31 Is that your card right there?
01:32 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:44 All right, you guys.
01:44 This is explanation for clinch.
01:48 What this is is it's enabling a few different principles.
01:52 The first one is you're crimping the card so that
01:56 you're able to have them shuffle the deck.
01:59 And then when you bring it back, you're doing a modified
02:02 under pressure flourish to be able to enable you to pull the
02:05 card out while you're doing under pressure flourish, OK?
02:09 So this is what the under pressure flourish usually
02:12 looks like from the back.
02:16 And this is what it looks like with the modification.
02:18 So that's the basic two things that you're going to be doing.
02:25 So now we'll get into exactly how to routine
02:28 clinch right now.
02:30 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:37 All right, you guys.
02:38 This is how the routine is broken down.
02:41 First off, you're going to have a spectator select a card.
02:43 And you're going to put the crimp in it, OK?
02:44 So this is how you're going to do it.
02:46 You're going to spread the cards.
02:49 You're going to-- whatever card they want, say it's this
02:51 one, you're going to show it to them.
02:53 And you're going to hold it in a certain way.
02:55 You're going to hold the card over your middle finger,
02:59 clipped with your first finger, like so, OK?
03:02 You're going to show it to them.
03:03 And as you come down, you're going to pinch with your first
03:07 finger against your middle finger, OK?
03:09 Just like that.
03:10 You pinch for about one to two seconds.
03:12 It's a quick pinch.
03:14 And you'll put a crimp in it, a bend, that will enable you to
03:17 find the card when it's shuffled by the spectator, OK?
03:21 So that's right there.
03:22 Show it.
03:23 You crimp.
03:24 And you come down.
03:25 Put the card in the middle of the deck.
03:27 Now a quick tip is if you dribble the cards, what it
03:31 will do is it will mask the crimp, OK?
03:34 So if you dribble the cards and then hand it to them to be
03:36 shuffled, it'll mask the crimp.
03:37 So if you get someone that's really looking at the deck,
03:39 they won't see anything funny, OK?
03:42 So they shuffle up the cards.
03:43 There we go.
03:47 They're mixing it up however they want.
03:49 So when you take the cards back, you'll see that the
03:52 crimp is either in the top left-hand corner or the
03:56 bottom right-hand corner, OK?
03:58 So either way, if you see it's in the top left-hand corner
04:01 when you get the deck, all you do is you just riffle down
04:04 with your thumb to it.
04:06 So I see it right there, OK?
04:08 So then I would just say your card's somewhere inside the
04:10 deck and cut it to the top.
04:12 Or with the back right-hand corner, all you would do is
04:16 you would just pull down with your pinky at the crimp, OK?
04:20 Just right there.
04:21 So either way, you get to the crimp like so, and it's on top.
04:26 Now you're going to do the under pressure flourish, OK?
04:29 So once you've controlled the card to the top, you're ready
04:32 to learn the under pressure flourish and the
04:35 modification to it.
04:36 So this is how under pressure is going to look.
04:47 First off, you're going to need to know how to do a
04:48 pressure fan, OK?
04:51 Like that, OK?
04:52 So you need to know how to do a pressure fan.
04:54 And once you can do a pressure fan, you're also going to need
04:58 to be able to spring the card from hand to hand, OK?
05:02 So it's a little bit of a mixture of both.
05:04 And what's going on is you're doing about half of a pressure
05:08 fan, OK?
05:10 And just for explanation purposes, you're going to hold
05:13 it with your first two fingers, your thumb here.
05:16 And I hold it with my third finger on the corner and two
05:20 fingers on top.
05:23 And what I'm doing is I'm doing half of a pressure fan,
05:28 and then you begin to spring the cards and just let them
05:31 flow over, OK?
05:33 It's kind of a knacky move.
05:36 Once again, hold the cards there, there, and there for
05:42 your top three fingers.
05:44 Your thumb goes on the bottom, bottom right-hand corner.
05:48 And you do a pressure fan, and then you just begin to let the
05:52 cards spring and slide over like so, OK?
05:57 So also when you're doing under pressure, something
06:01 that's a key is when you're doing it, you want to hold the
06:03 deck lightly so that the cards can flow from hand to hand
06:06 really easily.
06:07 So if you really hold it tightly, you're going to get
06:09 this weird, just like clumpy flowing motion,
06:14 which is not good.
06:15 So you're just going to want to hold the deck lightly and
06:17 just get the cards to flow from hand to hand, OK?
06:23 So once again, it's a little bit knacky, but once you get
06:25 it, it'll be good.
06:27 And it's not too difficult.
06:28 So put a little bit of practice, and you'll get it
06:30 pretty soon.
06:32 OK, so this is the variation/modification/newer
06:43 different way to do the under pressure.
06:47 So to do the catch it with your face trick, clench, is
06:51 what you guys are learning.
06:52 So what you're going to do is just like with normal, with
06:56 under pressure, you're going to go through like that.
07:01 But what you're going to do is since their selected card is
07:03 on top, you're going to retain the top card like so, watch,
07:10 with the bottom card.
07:12 So it's going to be the same way that the
07:13 bottom card is facing.
07:15 And what it's going to allow you to do is it's just going
07:18 to slide.
07:18 All of the cards are going to slide underneath it, OK?
07:21 So we'll do that again.
07:24 You're going to retain it.
07:25 You see how right now it's the same orientation as the
07:30 bottom card.
07:30 So you're pretty much starting the effect out like this, OK?
07:37 Just like that.
07:38 That's pretty much how you're starting the effect out.
07:41 So you get there, and then you finish the
07:43 under pressure like so.
07:48 I'll do that one more time.
07:49 So you're starting like this pretty much.
07:51 And then you do under pressure and finish it out like so.
08:01 And that's the modification to Michael Biles under pressure
08:06 that I'm going to use for this trick.
08:07 [MUSIC PLAYING]
08:14 OK, so I'm going to go over the whole routine as one whole
08:18 section.
08:19 I'm going to put all the moves that you just learned
08:20 together, OK?
08:21 So you're going to try them all out.
08:23 And I'm going to put in some subtleties, OK?
08:24 I'm going to tell you some subtleties that I've created
08:27 with this routine that make it really convincing, OK?
08:29 So let's check it out.
08:31 We're going to go through, and the spectator's going to
08:33 touch a card, OK?
08:34 We're going to grip it like so to get the crimp.
08:36 You show it.
08:38 You get the crimp.
08:39 And then you can dribble the cards and hand the cards to
08:43 the spectator to shuffle, OK?
08:45 So they shuffle away.
08:46 Shuffle, shuffle, shuffle, shuffle.
08:48 OK?
08:49 So they shuffle the cards.
08:51 And then you bring the deck back, OK?
08:53 So say they're mixing it up, right?
08:55 You find where your crimp is, OK?
08:57 You look at both edges.
08:59 So I see that my crimp is at the top left corner.
09:02 So I get the crimp with my thumb.
09:04 I say your card is somewhere inside the deck.
09:07 And you cut their card to the top.
09:09 Now you're going to do the modification of the
09:11 underpressure flourish, OK?
09:13 Keeping the card over aligned with the bottom card, OK?
09:17 Like so.
09:19 Now what you're going to say is you're going to do it--
09:22 there's one quick thing.
09:24 When you're doing this at chest height, OK, you're going
09:26 to have to be careful a little bit of your angles.
09:28 There's not much angle work at all.
09:30 But if anything, you just have to tilt the underpressure
09:33 towards you just a little bit.
09:34 Because they'll see this over top.
09:37 So I've found that if you're straight up, if you're just a
09:39 little bit back, it'll be perfect, OK?
09:41 So there's nothing that you have to worry about for
09:43 angles, really.
09:45 So the first subtlety that I came up with is that if you do
09:50 this, you do the modification, OK?
09:53 And you say that you're going to run all the cards by their
09:55 face, and you're going to just say that your card's somewhere
09:59 in the middle.
10:00 And I'm going to try and find your card
10:01 while they're going by.
10:02 So that's going to set them up to see what the underpressure
10:04 flourish looks like, OK?
10:06 But while you're setting them up, when you do this
10:09 modification of the underpressure flourish, you're
10:11 going to flourish all the way to the last card.
10:14 And you're going to even pull the last card out a little bit
10:18 and then just square it up so that it's a subtlety that they
10:20 know their card is not on top, OK?
10:23 And that's a key thing to do.
10:25 So you show that their card's not on top, you square
10:26 everything together, and you say, OK, as your card's going
10:30 by, I'm going to try and pull it out.
10:32 So this is where the catch comes in.
10:35 You do the flourish, OK?
10:38 And then you're going to bring your mouth to this corner of
10:42 the card that is behind the underpressure flourish.
10:47 You're going to bring it to it, OK?
10:52 And pull it out like so, OK?
10:55 Now, if you did that in itself, it probably
10:58 wouldn't look right.
10:59 So this is what you're going to do.
11:00 You're going to cut the deck exactly when you pull the card
11:02 out like this, OK?
11:07 And what you're doing is you're taking this packet and
11:10 putting it behind the card in your mouth to give the
11:12 illusion that it came from the middle, OK?
11:14 So I'll do that again.
11:17 You're going here, bam, right to there.
11:28 Another subtlety that makes this more convincing is if you
11:31 turn this packet to the right more, then these two cards are
11:38 almost at a V. So it looks like there's no way that this
11:42 card came from the top of this deck, which it didn't.
11:45 But you don't want people thinking that it came from the
11:47 top of the deck, OK?
11:50 So when you get to here, you want to put them at a V a
11:52 little bit, like this.
11:54 And you want it behind.
11:58 So we'll go over that one more time.
12:01 Go through, catch, like so.
12:10 And once you get to that moment, just pause, OK?
12:12 Let that sink in, that they see it in the
12:14 middle of the deck, OK?
12:16 And then once you pause, OK, make sure that you are able to
12:19 bring this hand down a little bit so that they can see that
12:22 it's in front of this card, OK?
12:25 Like that.
12:28 And then you can just hold it with your thumb right there,
12:30 put this packet on top, and just square these so it's back
12:34 in the middle.
12:36 And you can show the card.
12:38 And that is Clinch.
12:41 Hope you guys enjoyed that effect.
12:42 It's a really fun effect.
12:43 It gets good reactions.
12:45 It's an awesome, prompt-to-effect to do.
12:48 So have a lot of fun with it.
12:49 I know I have.
12:50 All right, thanks, you guys.
