00:09 Before we get into it, just a little bit of introduction.
00:11 It's a really versatile move.
00:14 This is a move that I created about a year ago.
00:16 I've been messing around with it and I know I have not figured out all the possibilities
00:22 and that is why it is up to you to come up with your own variations of this move called
00:27 Splice.
00:29 But for now, I'm going to teach the ones that I have come up with that I have used.
00:34 So yeah, let's get into Splice right now.
00:37 Alright, so this is Splice.
00:40 Ready?
00:41 Here's the core move.
00:45 Just like that.
00:47 What happens is you're getting a card into palm position with the use of the Cardini
00:54 Change/Ego Change by Danny Garcia.
01:00 So this is what it looks like from a revealed side.
01:07 And from here, you can really do anything.
01:09 You can place the "3" on the bottom, square it up, and you can go to the top.
01:18 You can really do anything.
01:20 So that's the core move right here.
01:23 Let's get into a more in-depth look of how to actually do it.
01:27 Alright, so here's what it looks like from the back.
01:31 This acrylic block will represent the deck of cards and this will represent the selected
01:35 card.
01:36 Now, what's going to happen is when you flip over the card, you want to get kind of a thumb
01:43 break.
01:44 Kind of like this.
01:46 It wants to be off of the deck.
01:47 You don't want it to be flush with the deck because then it's going to make a sound like
01:51 that and you don't want that.
01:53 You want a quiet sound.
01:55 So one more time.
01:57 When you have the card laying, you want it to be a break.
02:01 Just a tiny break.
02:02 Just about this much.
02:03 So, for example, you flip over the 8, you say there's the 8 of spades.
02:07 You flip it back down, but as you can see, there's a tiny little break of air.
02:12 And there's a reason why.
02:13 Because when you do this, you're not going to hear anything.
02:16 Whereas if it's flush, you'll hear that, which is not good.
02:19 You want there to be a tiny little break right there.
02:23 And your thumb keeps it that way.
02:27 That's why when you do the move, it's silent.
02:32 So that's what the thumb will look like.
02:35 Now, in terms of the change, or the actual crux of the move, this is what happens.
02:40 Your pinky is going to pull down like this.
02:45 You're pretty much doing the ego/cardini change right here.
02:52 Just like that.
02:56 Your other hand is right here.
03:00 So what's going to happen is when your right hand approaches the deck, it's going to go
03:04 like this.
03:05 It contacts the hand, you palm the card, and you're done.
03:13 And there's many things after this.
03:14 You can do pretty much anything you want.

03:29 And obviously the audience is in front of you.
03:32 You don't want the audience to be here, because then they'll see exactly what's going on.
03:37 Let's get into the different ways to actually approach this move.
03:44 This is what the move looks like when the audience is directly in front of you.
03:49 Just like that.
03:51 That's when they're here to here.
03:54 But obviously if they're over here, it won't look as good.
04:00 So here's what you want to do if you're surrounded.
04:03 You're going to shift your body like so.
04:08 Because when you do the move, all the angles are clear.
04:13 Because you're pretty much palming the card, but you're clear from here to here.
04:20 Whereas if you have your body in front of the audience, then you're not clear from here
04:24 to here, because you can obviously flash.
04:27 So if you are indeed surrounded, what you want to do is you want to have it like this.
04:32 You want to have your hand like this.
04:34 So let's say you're showing the eight of spades.
04:36 You say, "Look, watch.
04:37 We'll place the eight of spades into the center of the deck."
04:41 That's how you want to do it.
04:43 So that's how the angles are like.
04:47 Let's get into how to actually put back the card.
04:52 So let's say you do the move.
04:55 And you took the indifferent card, you placed it into the center.
05:00 How do you put back the card?
05:02 Well this is how you do it.
05:05 This is essentially what it looks like.
05:09 You're doing the window change, the snap.
05:14 You're covering it with a snap or any other way.
05:17 This is the way I usually do it, with a snap.
05:20 You can do it with a wave or any other way that you can come up with.
05:25 But this is how I like to do it.
05:28 I just do the move, I take the card, I place it into the center.
05:33 And with a snap, it goes back to the top.
05:39 So let's do that one more time.
05:41 So you get the card like this, into palm position.
05:46 You push off the indifferent card like so.
05:49 So it looks like this.
05:52 Place it into the center.
05:56 Do the window change or a wave or a snap, any way you want to do it.
06:01 So essentially what you want to do is you want to get the pinky to contact this side
06:07 of the card.
06:09 And then what's going to happen is that pinky is going to pull down.
06:14 Obviously not that hard, but just like this.
06:19 And as you do that, you raise your right hand up, causing both misdirection and cover.
06:28 Covering this action.
06:32 So you do the move, in exposed view.
06:37 Place the card in the center.
06:40 Remember, pinky pulls down.
06:45 You raise your right hand up to snap, and that covers all the actions.
06:51 For the wave, you do the move.
06:56 You place the indifferent card in there.
07:00 Your pinky contacts the card once again.
07:04 You raise your hand up and you wave.
07:06 Again, there's a reason why you want to raise your hand up.
07:08 Because you want to get rid of the idea that you're kind of placing...
07:11 You don't want to do this.
07:13 Because that might give them the idea that maybe you did have the card palm.
07:18 So you want to move your hand towards the audience and wave it.
07:23 Don't worry, they will not see it.
07:27 So that's how you place the card back on there.
07:31 Let's get into the actual routinings of splice.
07:37 Before we get into the actual routining, I want to teach you how to actually do the palm.
07:42 Because there's two different ways.
07:44 When you do the move, you can palm it in two different ways.
07:49 You can either do a full palm, as such, when you steal it off.
07:54 That way the angles are a little bit better, but your hand might not look as natural.
08:02 Or you can do a cop.
08:06 Where you have it only at the middle finger.
08:09 That way your hand can look a little bit more natural.
08:11 But you might flash if you're not careful with your angles.
08:16 So you can do a full palm, or you can do a cop.
08:24 It depends on the situation.
08:27 If you're surrounded, I definitely recommend doing a full palm.
08:33 Obviously you're going to have to relax your hands, drop it down to the side, or something.
08:38 But if you do a cop, make sure your angles are right.
08:43 For two, three people.
08:47 Just like this.
08:49 Let's get into the actual routines right now.
08:53 So here's the basic routine, the one that you've probably seen in the trailers.
08:58 It's pretty much a control.
09:00 So let's say they select a card.
09:02 This is what it looks like in exposed view.
09:04 You do the move.
09:05 You push off the indifferent card.
09:08 First finger clips it, just like so.
09:11 Your thumb just kind of puts it here, just to make it look more natural.
09:14 So here's what it looks like.
09:15 And then when you put it in the center of the deck, you use your left thumb to push
09:20 up, just like so.
09:22 Insert the card into the center, push it all the way flush, and then you're going to do
09:27 the window change, just like this.
09:32 And have the queen go back up to the top.
09:35 One more time.
09:36 Let's use a different card.
09:39 Let's say the three of spades.
09:40 You do the move in slow motion.
09:42 That's what it looks like.
09:44 You do the move.
09:46 You take the indifferent card.
09:47 You place it into the center, just like so.
09:51 You do the move, and it goes to the top.
09:55 Remember the snap.
09:59 Now that's one way as a control.
10:02 Here's another way you can do it.
10:03 You go like this, and then you're going to do a charlier cut.
10:11 But remember, when you palm the card, what you want to do is you want to drop it to your
10:14 side.
10:15 You don't want to have it here hanging, because that's really awkward.
10:19 People are going to wonder why you're doing that.
10:21 You want to drop your hands to your sides, and then do the charlier cut.
10:25 Then you do a wave, you do a snap, you do whatever.
10:29 Causing the card to go to the top.
10:32 But that's as a control, or an ACR.
10:37 But let's say you don't want to have a magical moment when you have the card go to the top.
10:41 You just want to move the card to the top, just as a move.
10:47 This is what you want to do.
10:48 You take the indifferent card, and you're going to take the deck and just place it on
10:54 the ground.
10:55 As you can see, the two is right there.
10:57 So here's what it looks like.
11:00 You do the move, you place it in the center, apparently.
11:05 And then you're going to take the deck and place it on the table, or place it wherever.
11:13 So in the action of taking the deck, you place the card right on top.
11:22 So you do the move, you place the card in the center, just like that, and there you
11:27 go.
11:28 The card's right on top.
11:30 So that's just the really basic move of doing splice.
11:34 Let's get into maybe the color change.
11:39 All right, so here is the color change.
11:50 Take the selected card, do the move.
11:52 Oh, sorry, actually, that was for the control.
11:56 You have the selected card.
12:03 You take the three, you do the control.
12:08 You snap your hands, it goes to the top.
12:11 That's the control.
12:12 But for the color change, it's going to be a little bit different.
12:16 So for the color change, maybe you want to do this.
12:19 You want to take the three, apparently lose it in the center.
12:22 That was the Marlowe tilt, so now the three is second from top.
12:27 And what you're going to do is you're going to lift up the top card, which obviously isn't
12:30 the three, just like that.
12:36 And then you're going to do the move.
12:38 You do the move, you steal that 10.
12:41 You toss the apparent 10 on the ground, like so.
12:47 What you're going to do is you're about to take the deck.
12:48 So you're going to take the deck and place it to the side.
12:51 And what I did was I just ditched the 10 right there.
12:55 So now the selected card is right there.
12:57 So say the three is not your card, no, okay, you drop it, put it on the table, boom, you're
13:04 done.
13:05 Now the 10 is right on the table.
13:07 So one more time.
13:08 Oh, 10 is not your card?
13:09 All right, let's try to make it your card.
13:12 Let's try to make it your card.
13:13 Snap your hands and it changes.
13:15 So that's the color change.
13:17 All right, so here's just the basics on the Marlowe tilt.
13:21 You get a break, just like this.
13:23 The selected card is inside the center.
13:27 And that kind of gives the illusion that the card is obviously going into the center.
13:31 So that's the Marlowe tilt, and that gets you ready for the color change.
13:34 All right, so here's what the four card production looks like.
13:39 Four queens, all right.
13:42 So here's the tutorial.
13:44 You have four queens, obviously.
13:46 You're going to have two queens on the top, one queen at the very top, face down, obviously,
13:53 and one queen on the bottom, face up.
13:55 So this is what the positions look like.
13:58 As you can see, one queen's face down, two queens face up, and one queen on the bottom,
14:04 face up.
14:06 That's the position of your queens.
14:09 You're going to do the move, producing one queen, and you explain to the audience, "There's
14:13 one queen," but you're not going to point like that.
14:16 You're just going to do this.
14:17 All right, and this is what's going to happen.
14:19 Your right hand's going to wave over the cards, but as it does this, your thumb, this is what
14:25 it looks like without me waving, your thumb's going to push up on the queen of hearts, your
14:30 first finger and your middle finger is going to push down on the queen of spades, doing
14:34 that T formation.
14:37 So up, down, and that's being done as you wave and produce.
14:44 What you're going to do is you're going to produce a card like this, using your first
14:49 finger up, like that.
14:52 So you do the move, boom, boom, like that.
14:57 So that's the four-card production.
14:58 Let's get into the actual card to pocket.
15:04 All right, so here's the card to pocket.
15:08 It's pretty much self-explanatory.
15:09 You do the move, and you're getting the card into palm position.
15:13 From here, you can have the card appear in your pocket.
15:18 You can really have it anywhere.
15:19 You can do card to wallet, anything, which is what I love about this move, is that you
15:26 are essentially getting a card into either palm or cop position.
15:29 You can either ditch it, or you can do anything, really.
15:34 So yeah, you get the card, and it appears in your pocket.
15:39 So that's it.
15:41 That's the card to pocket.
15:43 All right, so here is the two-card transposition.
15:48 As you know, usually the majority of them are done with duplicates.
15:51 In this case, I have two jokers.
15:52 But for explanation purposes, one joker is colored, and the other one is not, just to
15:57 tell them apart.
15:58 But when you get them, when you're obviously performing it, I would get two duplicates
16:03 that look exactly alike, whether it be two jokers that look alike, or two, I don't know,
16:07 anything, two of spades or king of diamonds.
16:10 In any case, so you have those two on top.
16:14 You have a card selected.
16:16 All right, let's say it's the nine of spades.
16:20 So what you're going to do is you're going to want to tell them to put their hand out.
16:24 But before you do that, you take the nine, you place it down, again, that break.
16:30 You tell them to move their hand, I mean, to start, to open their palm up.
16:34 And as they're doing it, you go back and approach the deck with your right hand, do the move,
16:39 and you see the great thing about this is that everyone's looking at their palm right
16:44 now.
16:45 All right, so that's perfect misdirection for you to do the move, right?
16:49 So right now you have the card palm.
16:50 So you tell them, can you please open your palm up, do the move.
16:55 You grab the indifferent card.
16:58 Right now what you're grabbing is the joker, right?
17:02 The joker.
17:04 But obviously you have the palm selected card.
17:07 Obviously you hide that, and you place the indifferent card, sorry, you place the quote
17:12 unquote nine of spades, even though it's the duplicate, on their hand.
17:18 You go back to the deck.
17:20 You say, let's get a different card.
17:22 Do a double lift, and obviously now the duplicate arrives.
17:25 And you say, oh look, it's the joker.
17:31 Do a magical gesture, and there you go.
17:33 Nine of spades, and the joker.
17:35 So one last time, two jokers on top.
17:39 You get a card selected.
17:43 Let's say it's the four of hearts, right?
17:45 Can do whatever.
17:47 Remember the break.
17:48 You tell them to open up their hands.
17:50 You place the joker.
17:51 Remember, that's the joker, but what they think, they think it's the four of hearts.
17:54 The four of hearts is actually here, right?
17:56 You say, we'll put the four of hearts there, take a random card like the joker.
18:00 Right now it's a double.
18:02 If you don't know how to do a double lift, just really quickly, your thumb pushes off
18:06 the side, you push off two cards, there you go.
18:08 All right, so that's a double lift.
18:10 In fact, there's a really good DVD, Andy Gladwin has one.

18:17 So anyways, there you go, joker, boom.
18:21 And four of hearts is here, and the joker is right there.

19:05 And yeah, I really, really hope you guys come up with your own variations, because this
19:09 is what it's all about, because it's a utility move.
19:12 It's a move that can be used for anything, not necessarily color change, not necessarily
19:17 a card to pocket, and not necessarily a sandwich effect.
19:21 It can be done in a numerous amount of effects.
19:25 It can enhance an ambitious card routine.
19:27 It can enhance any routine that you've come up with.
19:30 Again, like I said, this move was not for me to teach you how I do my sandwich effect,
19:36 how I do my card to pocket, but more of giving you ideas and nuances and teaching you how
19:43 to actually do the move and be able to come up with variations of your own.
