The Tour de France 2023 will hold its Grand Départ in the Basque Country, with a first stage in Bilbao on 1st July, and will finish in Paris on 23rd July, on completion of a 3,404-km route that will tackle the difficult slopes of the country’s five mountain ranges. The battle for the Yellow Jersey will witness a decisive and emotional episode on the Puy de Dôme, where a stage finish will be held 35 years after the victory of Denmark’s Johnny Weltz. The return to this legendary climb will be accompanied by the rise in importance of sites that will mark the Tours of the future, such as the Grand Colombier or the Col de la Loze. The sole time-trial on the Tour de France in 2023 will take place over 22 kilometres between Passy and the Combloux ski resort in Haute-Savoie. The sprinters will also have the opportunity to express themselves on finishes in Bordeaux, Limoges, Moulins, before the grand finale on the Champs-Elysées.

00:00 - Jai, when you took off this morning,
00:01 I suppose you had a plan, was it this one?
00:04 - No, not really.
00:07 Yeah, it was sort of just like improvising out there
00:09 and enjoying some bike racing
00:11 and I just managed to find myself in that group
00:14 and yeah, I really enjoyed it out there today.
00:18 - Yeah, you just won a stage of the Tour de France.
00:20 Can you believe it?
00:21 And you get to wear the yellow jersey.

00:31 - You had time to enjoy it alone in the lead.
00:35 Did you get some news in your earpiece
00:38 that you were gonna get the yellow jersey?
00:40 - Yeah, I mean, the guys in the radio
00:43 were just screaming about, yeah, just ride it to the line
00:48 and I don't know, I couldn't really hear
00:51 so much what was happening,
00:52 but yeah, I just wanted to gain as much time as possible
00:55 and yeah, and also the stage win and yeah,
01:00 found myself in the yellow jersey,
01:02 so that's pretty cool too.
01:03 - You've already won the Giro,
01:05 you've already had a taste of pink,
01:07 now it's gonna be yellow.
01:08 When you showed up on the Tour de France,
01:10 did you really have the ambition to try to win it
01:13 and is it still your ambition?
01:14 - Yeah, I mean, I didn't really know what to expect.
01:19 It's my first Tour and I think it's, yeah,
01:23 it's hard to come here with such massive ambitions already,
01:27 but yeah, for sure I wanted to come here
01:29 and be competitive and have some form of success
01:34 and yeah, just won a stage at the Tour de France, mate,
01:38 so it's pretty incredible and yeah.
01:42 - What does the family think about this, do you think?
01:44 - Yeah, I mean, I don't know, this one's for them.
01:50 My girlfriend as well, all the support,
01:53 everyone, all the fans back home,
01:55 everyone that supports me,
