00:00 Hey, everybody, it's Christian Pedersen joined by Dan Dickout back for another episode of
00:05 the Gonzaga Nation podcast.
00:06 We're digging into the mailbag for this one, answering the fan submitted questions that
00:10 you guys got to us on all of our social media at Fan Nation Zags.
00:14 Thank you as always for sending these in.
00:16 Dan, thank you for sitting in.
00:17 I think you fared pretty well in terms of the public reaction to last week's three on
00:21 three team.
00:22 It didn't seem like anybody was too feathers ruffled or anything like that.
00:26 I think we got some easy ones for you this week.
00:28 This one kind of came to us from all angles on social media because Josh Allen stepped
00:32 in it and said, stepped in, maybe not.
00:34 I know this is why we're asking you your opinion.
00:36 It's into the Big Mac was the best of the fast food hamburgers.
00:40 So people want to know, what do you write?
00:41 I want to know, number one, but I will give room for maybe like a one a one B because
00:46 you could be in the mood for different stuff.
00:48 Big Mac.
00:49 Holy cow.
00:50 I think I've had one Big Mac in the last 15 years, so I definitely would not agree with
00:53 that.
00:56 Burger Kings kind of fell off the wayside.
00:58 You know, I don't, there's not very many Burger Kings anymore in Spokane.
01:02 The Whopper used to be good.
01:04 I don't, it's probably been 10 years since I've had a Whopper.
01:08 I got to go deep into my Northwest roots to come up with the best fast food burger.
01:14 And that's pretty much anything at Burgerville USA.
01:18 It's a, it's a, you know, a franchise that's based around the Portland area.
01:23 It goes as far North as Chehalis and Trelley on I-5, so about an hour and a half from Portland.
01:30 It goes South to about Salem, which is about an hour South of Portland and then East to
01:35 the Dalles and the Gorge about an hour and 15 minutes.
01:39 So there's not a lot of them.
01:41 So anytime I get back down to the Portland Vancouver area, I make sure to check out Burgerville.
01:45 I'm not a big fast food guy, but Burgerville is good food fast.
01:50 That's what the, I think that's what the, one of their tags lines, cause it's not really
01:53 fast food, but you know, their Tillamook cheeseburger is off the charts.
01:58 Good.
01:59 If you just want a simple burger, their, their spread that they use is a special sauce.
02:05 It's pretty spectacular.
02:06 The double beef cheeseburger.
02:07 So if you want to complain about my choice, I'm just going to hear it because Burgerville
02:15 USA is the best fast food place out there.
02:17 Don't even come at me with in and out.
02:19 Don't come at me with five guys.
02:20 None of those, not even close.
02:22 I know that in and out is not the best burger chain around because their fries are just
02:26 as good as their burgers.
02:27 And you shouldn't have that at a good burger chain.
02:29 You should have burgers are the, are the superstars of the meal in and out.
02:32 Good though.
02:33 But yeah, no, a second one we got coming in and remember you can get at us at fan nation
02:37 zags on all the social media to ask Dan your questions.
02:41 Dan, someone on our Facebook wanted to know with all of us, all the talking that we've
02:46 done about teams leaving the WCC say the roles were reversed and you could add one team to
02:51 the WCC.
02:52 Who would it be and why?
02:54 Yeah.
02:55 I mean, obviously BYU is out of the league now.
02:58 Pacific joined the league.
03:00 You know, I mean, we're coming up on about 10 years now that the Pacific's been in the
03:03 league, but if they were going to add one more to make it kind of that even number again
03:09 for scheduling purposes, I think one of two schools, to be honest with you, make sense.
03:16 Grand Canyon university in Phoenix makes a lot of sense.
03:19 The other one that makes sense would be Seattle university right here in the state of Washington,
03:24 Seattle in the whack.
03:26 I think it would be a tough ad to bring Seattle.
03:31 You want simply because Gonzaga dominates the attention in the Northwest.
03:37 And I don't know if Gonzaga, the school now, I don't have this on record.
03:41 I'm just imagining.
03:42 I don't know if Gonzaga would want another member in the league kind of cutting into
03:48 their media market because by media market, I'm including Seattle in that Gonzaga footprint
03:54 of interest.
03:55 So I think if there were going to be one, it would probably be Grand Canyon university.
04:01 And that's another good up and coming media market in Phoenix.
04:04 And you know, they're a good team too.
04:06 You know, Gonzaga played him in the NCAA tournament and Bryce Drew's a phenomenal coach.
04:11 I think that's kind of all you need to say is that Gonzaga played them in the NCAA tournament.
04:14 They were one of 64 of the top teams in the country.
04:17 So I had not thought of that.
04:18 That's a great, that would be great ad because they don't have football either.
04:21 I don't think they do.
04:23 I don't believe so.
04:24 But their arena, I have not been to a game there.
04:27 I haven't called one there, but I've heard it's a great atmosphere.
04:30 The student section, I believe they call them the herd.
04:34 Does a really good job of, you know, getting ready for the opponent.
04:39 Last question we got and a reminder to everybody, you can submit these at fan nation zags on
04:43 whatever social media you use.
04:45 Someone wanted to know, who do you think is going to be the starting five for Gonzaga
04:49 first game of the year?
04:51 These ones are always tough because there's lots of directions and angles you can go.
04:55 You know, Gonzaga was lucky last year.
04:56 They really had no injuries.
04:58 So I believe they had the same starting five every single game.
05:02 I think the back court is going to be Nolan Hickman and Ryan Emhart.
05:05 I've said it thousands of times, hundreds on this podcast as well.
05:11 Gonzaga's and coach few's best teams have always had to play maker point guards on the
05:15 team ball handler, decision makers, playmakers, whatever you want to call them.
05:19 And so I think those two start together in the back court.
05:22 I think Graham EK is a clear cut starter.
05:24 Anton Watson isn't going to come back for a fifth year and not start.
05:29 So those would be two of your three in the front court.
05:32 And so I think you're really now just figuring out who's going to be your three, who's that
05:35 wing with a little bit of size.
05:39 And you know, they want to go young, could go Dusty Stromer.
05:45 They could also go with the South Korean.
05:48 I believe it's June is his name.
05:51 I'll get the pronunciation correct by the season, but I've heard great reports on him.
05:57 They could go really big, honestly, and slide Anton to the three and put Ben Gregg at the
06:03 four.
06:04 That's a possibility that could happen.
06:07 You know, but that all being said, I got four entrenched that I'm not going to back away
06:14 from.
06:15 I got to get down to a summer practice first and give you and get some eyes on some workouts
06:21 before I give you that fifth.
06:22 But if I have to go out on a limb right now, that's good.
06:25 That is perfect content teasing for later is we've got our four locked in, but stay
06:29 tuned to Gonzaga Nation for when the fifth one is ready.
06:31 You don't want to hear it because I'll go there and I know somebody will come at me
06:35 and they'll say I was wrong, right?
06:38 Hit it, Dan.
06:39 Coach Few values shooters.
06:41 So I think those Dusty Stromer is going to be that starter at that three.
06:45 Brings more size than you probably think.
06:49 And Coach Few always places an emphasis on shooting.
06:52 There you go.
06:54 Dan, thank you very much for answering everything we have in the mailbag this week.
06:57 Remember, as we always say, you can find us at Fan Nation Zags on all the social media.
07:01 I already screwed it up.
07:02 I told you I was going to leave someone out, right?
07:05 Steel Venters, Eastern.
07:07 Boom.
07:08 My bad.
07:09 I knew I was I was valuing shooting.
07:11 I didn't have the roster written right in front of me.
07:15 Dusty Stromer is going to have a tremendous career, but Steel Venters will start at the
07:19 three.
07:20 There you go.
07:21 My fat, my fault.
07:22 We are not the coaches.
07:23 We are out to do that because it's it's no harm, no foul this far out from the season.
07:27 And as we say, you can follow us at Band Nation Zags wherever you get your social media.
07:31 You can follow subscribe.
07:32 Gonzaga Nation wherever you get your podcast.
07:34 Thank you, everyone, for tuning in.
07:35 We'll talk to you guys next time.
