00:00 Here we go.
00:01 A scuba diver plunges deep into murky water
00:04 with metal detector in hand.
00:07 47 feet below, he pulls out a flashlight and spots an oar,
00:10 but that's not what he's looking for.
00:12 He's on a mission to find this woman's wedding ring.
00:15 Jenny Bowles was swimming with her family
00:17 in Bass Lake near Yosemite National Park
00:20 when she turned to her husband.
00:22 I was like, "Oh no babe," I said,
00:23 "My ring's coming off."
00:24 He's all like, "No it's not."
00:26 I was like, "Yes it is, it's gone."
00:28 You must have thought it was gone forever.
00:29 I did, I cried, I cried that whole night.
00:32 It was, I was devastated.
00:33 Who to turn to for help?
00:35 Jeannie reached out to a local scuba diver,
00:37 Michael Pelle, also known as Merman Mike.
00:40 I had zero visibility for pretty much most of the dive.
00:43 I was finding anything and everything but the ring.
00:46 But this merman wasn't giving up.
00:48 At one point, he took off his glove
00:50 and used his bare hand to sift through
00:53 the bottom of the lake.
00:56 Three hours into his dive, success.
01:00 My brain clicks that I'm looking at a diamond
01:03 and not just another piece of trash.
01:05 Now it's time to take the treasure to the surface.
01:08 Up, up he goes.
01:10 (cheering)
01:11 Oh my God, it's back, thank you!
01:14 Thank you so much!
01:16 You are so welcome.
01:17 Now Jenny's wedding ring is back where it belongs,
01:20 thanks to a real life merman.
01:22 Woo, we found it!
01:24 We found it!
