The Delhi police did not object to the granting of bail to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing chief of the Wrestling Federation Of India (WFI), who has been accused of sexual harassment by several women wrestlers. During a bail hearing at the Rouse Avenue court in Delhi, the court initially reserved its decision but later granted regular bail to Mr. Singh and Vinod Tomar, the Federation's suspended assistant secretary.
During the morning hearing, the lawyer representing the wrestlers opposed Mr. Singh's petition for regular bail, citing his influence and potential to tamper with witnesses. The lawyer requested that if bail is granted, strict conditions should be imposed, including no contact with the complainants or witnesses. Mr. Singh's lawyer, Rajiv Mohan, assured the court that his client poses no threat and will not attempt to interfere with the case.
The Delhi Police, when asked for their position, stated that they neither oppose nor support the bail petition, leaving the decision to the court. Earlier, the same court had granted Mr. Singh interim bail for two days, and Vinod Tomar had also been granted bail.
The women wrestlers had raised concerns about the impartiality of the government-formed oversight panel that investigated the sexual harassment allegations, claiming it favored Mr. Singh, who is a BJP MP. The six-member panel, led by renowned Indian boxer MC Mary Kom, submitted its report to the government, but it has not been made public.
Despite facing charges of sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, and stalking, Mr. Singh has refused to step down from his position as WFI chief.

00:00 A few hours ago, Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to former WFI Chief Brij Bhushan
00:08 Sharan Singh and former WFI Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar.
00:14 The bail was granted with a personal bond of 25,000 each for the sexual harassment and
00:23 molestation case against them.
00:27 Now the court has put certain conditions.
00:30 The court has said that they cannot leave the country without informing the court and
00:35 they cannot influence or tamper with the evidence.
00:39 Influence the witness or tamper with the evidence.
00:41 This is what the court said.
00:43 Fair enough.
00:45 Now I understand that bail is the rule and jail is the exception.
00:52 I understand all that.
00:55 But what I do not understand is all this rule that jail is the exception and bail is the
01:02 rule and all that, all this only comes for sexual harassment, crime against women.
01:08 All this only kicks in then.
01:10 When there is an ED case, then there is no bail.
01:16 So far, what am I supposed to understand?
01:17 I really want to know from my judiciary, from the administration, that when it comes to
01:24 money, when it comes to commercial crime, we take it very seriously.
01:28 No bail.
01:29 Ha, rape allegations or molestation allegations and all, theek hai, chalo, you will get bail.
01:34 Is that how it is?
01:36 I really fail to understand this.
01:38 I really fail to understand this.
01:40 And I am a little emotional because coupled with what happened in Manipur, I really want
01:44 to ask this question.
01:46 Is this how we are going to treat a sexual offender or an accused sexual offender in
01:52 this case?
01:54 Is this how it happens in this country?
01:57 That's the question I want to ask you.
01:59 Watch my editorial tonight.
