00:00 The continued emergence of artificial intelligence or AI,
00:04 is it possible that it will leave the hands of real people in their work?
00:07 One of the things we will talk about today is the possible effect of this on business,
00:11 process outsourcing or call centers.
00:14 J.P. Soriano is a witness.
00:16 The Philippines is one of the most number of workers from the ITB or sector or call centers in the world.
00:27 So it is not surprising that this is also one of the biggest industries that provides jobs to many Filipinos.
00:35 But due to technological advancement and the strength of artificial intelligence or AI,
00:42 according to the International Labor Organization or ILO,
00:46 BPO is one of the most affected.
00:50 In the next one or two decades, we expect that automation will take over
00:55 and many of the existing jobs that we have in the BPO sector for example or in the agricultural sector,
01:01 they will be automated.
01:03 But the concern of the Department of Labor and Employment or DOLE,
01:07 not only ITB-BPO is possible to be lost.
01:11 Our emerging industry is creative.
01:13 You can see that many of the jobs that are traditionally done by workers,
01:20 individual workers, can be replaced by machines or whatever.
01:27 But I think that is a challenge that we have to more or less address.
01:32 You cannot just look at losses but we also look at potential.
01:37 Even so, there are still new types of jobs that will be partner and will be done with AI.
01:46 But it will require new skills.
01:50 When the jobs are created, it would require higher level of training and higher level of education.
01:55 TESDA has advanced models comparing to the region but it cannot cope with the demand that we presently have.
02:05 At present, we need to upgrade our programs.
02:09 Otherwise, we will be left behind.
02:12 TESDA is under DOLE and according to the surrounding,
02:15 TESDA Innovation Centers have been established to combine skills training with AI.
02:25 To ensure that the Labor-Employment Plan of the government will be successful,
02:29 DOLE has approved the creation of a tripartite technical working group
02:34 that will be used for the improvement of skills and training of Filipino workers
02:38 so that they can be together in the changing times.
