Mady Gosselin Accuses Brother Collin of ‘Violence and Hate Speech’

00:00 Maddie Goslin issues a rare statement, accusing her brother Colin of physical violence and

00:07 "I wouldn't believe it was because of TV.
00:09 I think it tore us apart."
00:12 The John and Kate Plus 8 star broke her silence on Instagram Wednesday, opening up about her
00:17 estranged family, one day after Colin's bombshell interview aired on Vice TV's Dark Side of
00:24 the 2000s.
00:25 "I know my mother was going through a lot of things.
00:28 She needed someone to take out her anger and her frustration on, and it was just kind of
00:34 me."
00:35 Maddie claims she's been overwhelmed by hate messages, before explaining that she doesn't
00:40 owe her allegiance to anyone who she claims has physically threatened her and every member
00:46 of her immediate family.
00:47 ET has reached out to Colin for comment.
00:51 Maddie adds that she will never allow someone to be in her life who she says has exhibited
00:55 hateful and even violent behavior towards others based in their racial identity, gender
01:01 identity or religious beliefs.
01:04 Maddie refuses to compromise even for her brother, whom she claims made his opinions
01:09 very clear in private.
01:11 "Are you trying to say your mother was abusive to you?"
01:14 "Well, yeah, that's kind of the reason why she sent me away.
01:17 But I was starting to tell people what was going on at home and she caught wind of that."
01:24 Maddie says she's not interested in rebuilding her relationship with Colin, and is asking
01:29 for peace and privacy and no more hate mail going forward.
01:33 "I have not spoken with my siblings in probably like five or six years now.
01:39 And it's tough, but I would love to have a relationship with them."
01:43 Colin has been living with their dad, Jon Goslin, and their sister, Hannah, since 2018.
01:47 "I would do anything for my sister.
01:50 She was a big part of my emotional support."
01:53 The other four of the sextuplets, Leah, Joel, Alexis and Aiden, live with their mom, Kate.
02:00 "It was a difficult decision leaving my siblings.
02:04 I just feel like there was unfair treatment in my mom's house."
02:09 Jon and Kate, who officially divorced in 2009, also share Maddie and her 22-year-old twin
02:15 sister, Kara.
02:17 Colin's been estranged from his mom since 2016, when he was sent to an institution for
02:22 nearly three years.
02:23 "I'm not going to say I was a perfect child, but I'd say my misbehaving was no different
02:28 from my siblings."
02:29 "I think my mother put me in there to keep me quiet."
02:34 At the time, Kate said it was due to Colin's "special needs."
02:38 "After being there, I didn't have a relationship with her."
02:41 Hannah opens up in the doc, too, recalling the way her brother was treated differently
02:46 than their fellow sextuplets.
02:48 "He would be separated from us.
02:51 He would not get to come and play outside with us.
02:54 He would eat dinner at different times than us.
02:57 I don't think effort was made in the home to help him learn what behavior is acceptable
03:03 and what behavior is not acceptable."
03:05 "I came to the conclusion that everybody has their own agenda.
03:08 My mom had her own agenda."
03:10 The Gosselin family became household names after starring in the TLC show Jon & Kate
03:15 + 8, which debuted in 2007.
03:18 "It all started with the two of us.
03:20 Then we had our beautiful twin girls, Kara and Madeline.
03:23 We were so thrilled we decided to try for just one more and ended up with six."
03:29 The show ended in 2017, but by that time, Jon had left the series and it was renamed
03:35 Kate + 8.
03:36 And when ET sat down with Colin in 2022, he said life is all about how you handle the
03:43 tough times.
03:44 "In life, we all go through hard things.
03:46 We all get knocked down.
03:47 Resilience is a really important thing."
