00:04 Drugs, thousands of pounds and weapons including a samurai sword have been seized by police
00:09 after a search of a Newcastle house.
00:12 Police executed a warrant in the Kenton area and found more than £21,000 in cash, cannabis
00:18 and a number of bladed articles.
00:20 A man and a woman were both arrested and have now been released on bail pending further
00:23 enquiries.
00:24 Gateshead Leisure Centre and Burtley Swim Centre will now be closed after a decision
00:28 was made to close leisure centres to help with funding cuts.
00:32 Community groups have showed interest in taking over the centres that have closed their doors
00:36 but for now the centres will be boarded up to protect them from damage.

00:45 John Pate is a retired engineer and he now proudly holds the title for the longest serving
00:49 volunteer and one of the most dedicated community heroes in the North East.
