Perth's Simon Chandler shares the inspiration behind his S scale 'Lietinna' model railway layout. Video by Paul Scambler

00:00 My name's Simon, I'm from Perth, and this is my model train layout based on Lyatana
00:03 up the north east of Tasmania, just before Scottsdale.
00:07 It's S scale, or 1 in 64 scale.
00:09 Took me about 12 months to build, and all the rolling stock you see and all the buildings
00:14 are all scratch built.
00:16 What made you come into model railways?
00:18 I can blame my dad for that.
00:19 He got me interested because he's always built Tasmanian models as well, so he's actually
00:23 not here at this show, but he's usually at most train shows.
00:26 So yeah, he got me into it when I was quite young and still doing it.
00:30 I actually chose Lyatana purely for the trestle bridge.
00:33 I wanted something that was a nice easy layout to bring to exhibitions like this and a feature
00:38 piece at the front.
00:39 Lyatana used to have a nice curved timber trestle bridge.
00:43 The bridge is still there today, but it's made out of concrete, and it was just quite
00:48 like the north east line.
00:49 It used to go up there quite regularly when the trains still ran up there, but it's now
00:53 been 20 years since trains went up there.
00:56 And is this your only layout, or do you have any others?
00:59 I've got about six, and another one on the way.
01:02 So it's a bit of a problem.
