University of Mindanao-Institute of Popular Opinion director Dr. John Vianne Murcia announces the results of their June 2023 survey assessing public trust in the country's top officials in Davao.

The results show Senator Risa Hontiveros as the top gainer in terms of trust ratings among senators due to her watchdog role, which Dabawenyos see as necessary to provide “balance.”

It also indicated a drop in public confidence in President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Vice President Sara Duterte, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, and Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, and identified which senators were the most and least trusted in Davao.

00:00 And as about awareness, our first question would be basically asking whether the barrenos are aware on the top highest government officials occupying the president, vice president, the speaker of the house of representatives, the senate president, and the chief justice or the leader of the supreme court.
00:21 91% of the respondents are aware that president Marcos Jr. is the current president and 93% are aware that the former mayor Inday Sara is the current vice president.
00:34 50% are aware that Migs Ebril, the leader of the senate is occupying that position. 55% are aware that representative Martin Romualdo is the speaker of the house. And 1/3 or 23% of the respondents are aware that our current chief justice is chief justice Alexander Guzmundo.
00:58 Now on the trust, or whether or not the barrenos trust our president or the president to be chief justice, we have asked them whether they have trust, what would be the level of their trust based on responses such as much trust, light trust, or no trust.
01:18 This will be the basis in the computation of the net trust ratings later. So as to the ratings, we have the net trust of president Marcos is called alarming at +1. That means that 33% expressed much trust but 32% expressed no trust, leaving a net trust rating of +1.
01:41 So the net trust rating of Marcos is +1. So the net trust rating of Marcos is +1. So the net trust rating of Marcos is +1. So the net trust rating of Marcos is +1.
02:10 For Senator Migs Zubili, he has 16.7 net trust rating as of June 2022. But it's a break even for net trust considering that his data for much trust is 25% but the no trust rating is 25%.
02:32 For Chief Justice Alexander Gusmundo, he has 19.5% net trust last year but right now it's -3 and it's interpreted as alarming as well. And while we have no data for Speaker Martin Romualdez, his rating is alarming or almost very alarming at -19 points.
02:54 So if we ask, the number of our witnesses who expressed slight trust this current survey period is a bit high. That means that they might have high trust or high expectations during the start of their governance but after several issues, after several achievements or accomplishments that they are reporting,
03:16 maybe a little bit of a slowdown of high trust and it transferred to the moderate level. And observably, the number of people who expressed no trust in our top 5 highest positions increased. With the exception of VP Inday Sara who actually is still enjoying a good trust rating.
03:38 Now for the Senators, the remaining 23 of them, a major highlight of our survey is that the most gainer, the one that actually gained the most significant net trust rating is Senator Risa Conteveros.
03:53 Before, she actually has -30 or very alarming trust rating but right now, she's enjoying a +28 rating which is actually moderate in terms of our interpretation.
04:07 So we can see here in our press brief that the top 5 in the survey that gained the most trust rating is Senators Risa Conteveros at +28, Senator Wayne Gachalian at +24, the current Senator Christopher Lawrence Dongo at +22,
04:30 and Senator Grace Toh at +21, and the former PNP chief and Senator Bato De La Rosa at +20.
04:42 But if in case we're going to compare their trust ratings now compared to our last year's trust ratings, our points are a bit off.
04:56 Considering that Senator Goh has +57 last year but it's now +22, Senator Grace Toh at 16, improved slightly at +21, Senator Bato De La Rosa at +50, now her loss is 30 points, +20 only.
05:14 As to the 5 least trusted Senators, we have in the list Senators J.D. Hercito at -5 which is a reduction from his -2 last year, Senator Cynthia Villar at +24, now it's -12,
05:31 Senator Gingo Estrada at -24 last year, now it's slightly improved, -16 only, Senator Lito Lapid at -21 but right now it's -16, slight improvement, and Senator Bong Rinyi at -37, slight improvement at -24.
05:49 So we can actually attribute the improvement of the trust ratings of Risa Ontiveros on her vocal expressions on some of the policies of the current government
06:01 and some of the, and the Bauenos see it as something that is balancing the act of the President.
06:08 So it's basically something that counters whatever are some specific policies or actions that are seen to be inefficient or ineffective
06:18 and the Bauenos see Senator Ontiveros as doing better in that.
06:23 So basically that is our summary.
06:26 The majority of our Senators have slightly decreased in trust ratings now but IPO would still be tracking the net trust ratings 6 months to 12 months after the current press release.
