00:00 Selena Gomez rang in her 31st birthday with a star-studded party.
00:05 The Rare Songstress danced the night away with Paris Hilton, Christina Aguilera, Saweetie,
00:10 and Karol G at her lavish birthday party Saturday night.
00:13 For the fun celebration, she stunned in a red Bottega Veneta mini dress.
00:17 She paired the look with black stilettos and an updo.
00:20 But the festivities didn't stop there.
00:23 The Only Murders in the Building star shared photos from her special Barbie screening on
00:27 her Instagram story.
00:29 In a snap, her girlfriends got all dressed up in pink for the movie.
00:34 On her birthday, Selena shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, writing, "I am thankful
00:38 for so much in my life and one of the things I am most thankful for is the work we've been
00:42 able to do with the Rare Impact Fund through Rare Beauty.
00:45 Because of you, we've been able to raise awareness and increase access to mental health services
00:50 for young people."
00:51 The 31-year-old has been an advocate for mental health for years and has shined a light on
00:56 her own mental health journey in her recent documentary, My Mind and Me.
01:01 Ex-Hollywood Zuri Hall spoke with Selena at the premiere of her film, where she shared
01:05 what she feared most in her darkest moments.
01:08 Hi Selena, how are you?
01:11 Thank you and same.
01:12 First of all, congratulations on this project and secondly, thank you for making it.
01:17 Like I'm not going to get super emotional, but thank you for making it.
01:22 You know, it took a lot of brave vulnerability to share a story like this, your story, and
01:27 I just spoke with Alec, who said that you gave him full license to do what he would
01:31 with your story.
01:33 How much vulnerability, how much, if any, fear was there attached to that?
01:37 Oh yeah, I'm still scared actually.
01:39 It was very uncomfortable to be honest in moments, but then I feel like it was also
01:45 necessary.
01:46 I thought the story needed to be bigger than just me and my music.
01:51 I think it took a life of its own and he just created the story that truly is my life in
01:58 a time capsule.
02:00 Your life in a time capsule, it is inspiring.
02:03 It's gut-wrenching.
02:04 You know, I ask this next question and I don't ask it lightly and only so much as you're
02:08 comfortable sharing, but that log line behind us says, "Every breath, a breakthrough."
02:13 What does that mean for you?
02:15 And in your darkest moments of that struggle, what did you maybe fear most?
02:20 I think I was scared of myself.
02:22 The way I was treating myself, the way I was talking about my body, it breaks my heart
02:28 to think that's who I was.
02:31 And it was really heartbreaking for me to know that I hope I never, I just don't want
02:36 anyone to feel what I feel or has walked through.
02:40 I feel like this can't not be an emotional carpet for you.
02:46 What are you feeling right now and why?
02:48 I'm very nervous.
02:51 This has been exciting, but a little overwhelming to be honest.
02:53 I think I am still a little shaky, but I'm excited to be here and I'm happy that it's
02:58 going to be released.
03:00 Really quickly, anyone struggling at home who may be watching and going through something
03:04 similar, who may feel like their darkest days are still ahead, what would you say to them?
03:09 What would you encourage them with?
03:10 I would encourage them to be not afraid to seek help, but at the same time learn about
03:16 it, understand what it is, because once you have the knowledge of what you're going through,
03:20 you're less afraid of it.
03:22 So I would say learn as much as you can.
03:36 (upbeat music)
