00:19 -I told them a concept of what I wanted for the movie to be about, you know?

00:24 And they took that idea, and they ran with it.

00:26 ♪♪ I don't know where to start ♪♪

00:30 Suddenly, I had this script, you know?

00:31 I'm like, "Oh, my lordy."

00:33 And it was really cool.

00:34 ♪♪ Was you who made me real ♪♪

00:37 And then, two weeks before we do the actual movie, I'm like,

00:40 "Okay, it's really reality setting in. I'm gonna do movie."

00:42 I was like, "Am I gonna be able to do this?"

00:44 I think you should never put boundaries on yourself.

00:46 You should always want to grow and be a stronger person.

00:48 You know, I learned a lot during this.

00:58 -Hi, Lori. -Oh, it got so dark.

01:00 -Wait. -Oh, cool.

01:02 -Since I was a little girl, I've made, you know, home videos

01:05 with my friends and stuff like that.

01:06 I've always, you know, had that on my mind to do a movie,

01:09 but just to try something different,

01:10 to experience something different.

01:12 I wanted a teen movie where, like, all these three girls,

01:16 they have this road trip together.

01:17 And I said I don't want it to be a simple teen movie.

01:19 I want it to be issues that teenagers really deal with

01:21 that it would touch their hearts, you know what I mean?

01:23 And the movie, it's a fun movie. You laugh and stuff.

01:25 But there's also real issues that teenagers go through

01:28 that are, you know, really sad.

01:30 And it'll make them feel like, you know, they're not alone.

01:32 You know, other girls out there, they go through that, too.

01:35 -It's like a drama date.

01:36 It's like you laugh, you cry, you do everything in this movie.

01:39 And it's definitely talking about subjects

01:40 that teenagers do go through right now.

01:42 You know, it's definitely a movie that you'll call your girlfriends

01:44 and be like, "Let's go see this." -Yeah.

01:46 ♪♪ This is gonna be my... ♪♪

01:49 -On the surface of it, it looks very simple.

01:51 Lucy, which is Brittany's character, is the brain, you know,

01:55 when the kind of the geek, the science geek.

01:57 She's a valedictorian.

01:58 She's the good girl, kind of the goody two-shoes.

02:00 She does what her dad says. She never hangs out.

02:03 And Kit is the prom queen, the popular girl.

02:07 And Mimi is the outcast, the outsider, kind of the rebel kid.

02:12 But that's not who those girls are.

02:14 And their lives are much bigger than that.

02:16 ♪♪ Now, now ♪♪

02:18 -It's graduation, and the three girls, they haven't been close.

02:22 They haven't really been hung out all through high school

02:24 because they've all gone their own separate ways.

02:26 And Mimi's smart enough to realize this is the last chance

02:29 to maybe get these girls together and go do something.

02:32 -I play Ben, who's a musician who's filling in for the band

02:37 that plays at these girls' high school prom

02:40 on the same night that they realize

02:42 that they have to take care of different things

02:44 for different reasons on the other side of the country,

02:46 and they don't have a way of getting there,

02:48 so they hitch a ride with me and my 1973 Buick Skylark.

02:52 [ Both laugh ]

02:54 ♪♪ My greatest day ♪♪

02:58 -♪ Say hello to the girl that I am ♪

03:03 -One of the things that was pleasantly surprising about Red

03:06 is that she's a 19-year-old girl from Louisiana.

03:09 She doesn't try to do anything else.

03:11 -I don't even feel like she's Britney Spears at all.

03:13 You know, she's just, like, this nice girl

03:16 who has all the same problems as all of us little people have.

03:19 -Once I got to know her, I think I met Britney, the person.

03:22 And then it's like, "Oh, this is your package.

03:24 That's amazing. That's a plus."

03:26 And it's amazing to know that you're sitting right next to a girl

03:29 that has been on the road since she was probably 16 years old,

03:33 has been all around the world, and she is just so grounded.

03:37 -You never really get to see Britney like this.

03:40 I mean, you're really seeing her up close.

03:42 And if anybody's as fascinated with her as I am,

03:45 they're gonna watch this movie over and over and over again

03:48 because, I mean, you can't get enough of her.

03:50 -I love making the movie that I've had more fun making with my friends,

03:54 making friends with Zoey and Taryn and Manson.

03:56 They've just been wonderful, and this movie has taught me so much

03:59 just to, you know, live a little.

04:01 -♪ I'm so glad other people doubted me ♪

04:03 ♪ To be someone else ♪

04:05 ♪ 'Cause now I know what I do with my life ♪
