00:00 What are you doing here?
00:01 I'm coming with you.
00:03 Did you bring your rollerblades?
00:06 I literally go nowhere without them.
00:07 What guiding piece of direction did Greta give you
00:10 for developing your character?
00:12 Her direction's incredible, and sometimes she'll
00:14 just talk about a thing without specifically giving
00:17 you a piece of direction.
00:18 But she'll be like, you know that thing where da, da, da,
00:20 da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da?
00:22 And so she'll say all this stuff, and she's like,
00:24 I don't know if that's helpful.
00:26 And you're like, no, I think I know what you--
00:29 what I should do now based on that anecdote.
00:31 Other times I was like, I--
00:33 I have-- she's so smart.
00:35 I was like, I got lost in that story, and I stopped.
00:38 Oh my goodness, she's just so smart.
00:40 And you were saying earlier, it's true,
00:41 she'll reference so many things at once.
00:43 And like, she'll reference a--
00:46 some random moment from both a Jacques Tati film,
00:50 and then like, you know, the latest episode of--
00:53 of like, "Love is Blind."
00:55 And you know, and then also a story about when
00:57 she was a kid and fencing.
00:59 And then somehow all of it just becomes exactly--
01:03 And it's all applicable and connected, weirdly.
01:05 Yeah.
01:06 She gave me a list of movies to watch the first time
01:09 we chatted about the character.
01:11 And one of them was a documentary called
01:13 "Tiny Soldiers" about Barbie.
01:15 There is a woman who works for the Barbie brand who
01:19 was a big part of like, evolving Barbie
01:21 into like, the singularity, where
01:23 all the Barbies are Barbie.
01:25 I watched that and I thought, oh, that's Gloria.
01:29 Like, she's a grown, sophisticated, smart, serious
01:34 woman who values deeply like, a connection
01:39 that she had to this inspiring, imaginative toy.
01:44 And like, she chooses to value that.
01:46 And that was like, delightful for me.
01:49 And I remember going to Greta and saying, it's her.
01:52 And she's like, yes, it's her.
01:54 And like, we were just on the same page about that.
01:57 Oh my god, I had a weird Barbie.
02:00 Yeah, you did.
02:01 One of the first things that Greta wanted us to do as Kens,
02:05 as like, a unit of Kens, was work out together.
02:09 So while, you know, Margot and her Barbies
02:11 were having that very famous pajama sleepover,
02:15 I'm imagining like, a nice hotel room where you're, you know,
02:17 doing each other's hair and just being really positive.
02:19 The Kens were in the gym at like, some ungodly hour
02:25 early in the morning, just like, lifting weights
02:27 and screaming at each other.
02:28 So that was, I mean, it was of course, the right thing to do.
02:31 We very quickly were just kind of thrown in together
02:34 and learned to bond in our own Ken ways
02:37 through lifting really heavy objects and pumping muscles.
02:40 It's pretty much all the Kens ever do in Barbie land.
02:43 You know, Kens don't really have--
02:45 we don't really have jobs.
02:47 And so our one and only job in Barbie land
02:49 is to beach, and beach we do very, very well.
02:53 All Kens do beach, which is not to be mistaken with lifeguarding
02:58 because lifeguarding is an actual job that
03:00 requires skills and work.
03:03 But beach is simply beach, and that is what Kens do.
03:07 I'll beach off with you any day, Ken.
03:09 Anyone who wants to beach him off has to beach me off first.
03:11 I will beach both of you off at the same time.
03:14 (whooshing)
