Under Yogi Adityanath’s government in Uttar Pradesh, it has been a harsh summer. The reason for this is not just the soaring temperatures, but the frequency power cuts in UP.
Shockingly, a survey report from the state of Uttar Pradesh reveals that 74% of UP sees power cuts daily and some even endure it for 4 hours.
The survey was conducted by a community-based social media platform, LocalCircles, in which the residents of UP were asked about the frequency of power outages the residents face on a daily basis in July 2023. There were around 4000 responded to this question, and 74% of the respondents reported daily power outages during the month. And 55% of the respondents endure three or more outages per day.
The head of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, M Devraj to the media acknowledged a financial crisis in UP’s power sector. The report by the LocalCircle states that UP’s accumulated loss amounted to nearly 1 lakh crore in June 2023.
The corporation has further plans to improve the metering and billing system and reduce the line losses caused by power theft.
And now, the eye is on the Yogi government’s ability to improve the electricity supply of UP. Whether he fails or passes it, we will get to know in coming months.
