Grace Berger is a Pick-and-Roll Expert
Transcript
00:00 The Indiana Fever have finally been giving Grace Berger some more playing time, and it's
00:04 not hard to see why with how well she can run these ball screen actions to initiate
00:08 each set for them.
00:09 Here, they're going to run Spain pick and roll, where the basic idea is that the original
00:12 ball screener for Grace is going to receive a back screen and then flare up for an open
00:16 three point shot.
00:17 But here, Jonquil Jones, the big defender, kind of gets preoccupied with the roller.
00:21 The back screen isn't really necessary.
00:22 You can see Grace slow her pace a little bit, keep her initial on-ball defender on her back,
00:28 never touches the ball with her left hand, just keeps it there and keeps a good pace
00:31 to go in for an easy layup.
00:33 Here, the Fever are going to let her initiate with double drag, although double drag usually
00:37 was set at higher.
00:38 And you can again see how good of a passer she is.
00:40 She never misses open post entries.
00:42 She immediately sees the mismatch inside for her teammate Emma Cannon.
00:46 Perfect pass, easy layup.
00:49 And this is probably the best pass she threw, even though it only results in free throws.
00:52 Again, double drag.
00:54 But see, she's going to hop back and throws a laser one-handed pass that gets her team
00:58 free throws.
01:00 And you can see when she hops back, she's watching these two off-ball defenders, kind
01:04 of seeing if they're going to help over and tag on her teammate.
01:08 But she keeps her head up the whole time.
01:10 Perfect pass.
01:11 Grace Berger should keep getting more minutes for the Fever.
01:13 She's a really great basketball player.
