Celebrations on River Seine as Olympic Torch is unveiled

Residents of France and its overseas departments will be able to get a taste of Olympic fever by following the torch relay from May 8 next year until the opening ceremony. Then there are the hundred thousand lucky people who will get free access to that potentially stunning opening ceremony.

00:06 the help of athletics great Usain Bolt, Paris 2024 president Tony Estanguet and International
00:13 Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach presented the torch for all to see. Crafted by French
00:19 designer Mathieu Lehaneur, the torch encapsulates the spirit of 2024 guided by three central
00:27 themes - equality, water and tranquillity. It will be carried by 11,000 people and will
00:35 then embark on a historic journey across France, covering thousands of kilometres, passed from
00:42 hand to hand in a spirit of unity and celebration. The final destination is of course in Paris
00:50 for the lighting of the Olympic cauldron during the Games opening ceremony on July 26.
