Senators and justices at the Constitutional Court were cursed by members of the “Thammasat Will Not Tolerate” group and other student activists in front of the Faculty of Law at Thammasat University’s Rangsit campus on Wednesday night.
The students took turns expressing outrage and then set a copy of the Constitution aflame, sprinkling chilli and salt on the fire to cast a traditional Thai curse against senators and judges they accused of foiling Move Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s bid to become prime minister.
To signal the death of justice, they brought out a coffin and a doll with the face of a judge placed on it. They painted the coffin red and put the doll inside it before hammering it shut.
They ended their protest with the three-finger salute from the "Hunger Games", which has become a gesture in pro-democracy movements in Thailand and Myanmar, and by vowing not to bend to the will of the state.
