00:00 Before Margot Robbie landed the title role of Barbie, fans may be shocked to learn she wasn't the first one to sign up for A Life in Plastic.
00:07 Comedian Amy Schumer almost played the lead role of the iconic doll.
00:11 On the June 8th episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, she shared her thoughts on the film during a round of Plead the Fifth.
00:17 Can you name a specific reason you dropped out and will you be seeing the movie?
00:22 I can't wait to see the movie. I think it looks awesome.
00:25 Um, I think we said it was scheduling conflict.
00:28 Okay, that's what we said.
00:30 That's what we said. But yeah, it really was just like creative differences.
00:33 But you know, there's like a new team behind it and it looks like it's like very feminist and cool.
00:37 So I will be seeing that movie.
00:39 Was it that it didn't feel feminist and cool when you were involved in it?
00:42 It was a little... Yes! Right.
00:44 In 2016, it was announced that Amy was set to play Barbie in the live-action movie.
00:48 But then months later, she confirmed she would no longer be a part of it.
00:52 But Amy isn't the only actress that couldn't be boxed in.
00:55 Anne Hathaway was set to replace the Trainwreck star in 2018 with a set release date of 2020.
01:01 But toward the end of that year, deadline confirmed Anne no longer had ties to the project,
01:05 which made its way over to Warner Brothers with Margot Robbie as Barbie instead.
01:09 Since Margot serves as both the film's star and co-producer,
01:13 back in May, she revealed to Vogue that Wonder Woman's Gal Gadot was who she originally envisioned to lead the Barbie world.
01:19 Margot told the outlet, "Gal Gadot is Barbie energy because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful.
01:25 But you don't hate her for being that beautiful because she's so genuinely sincere.
01:29 And she's so enthusiastically kind that it's almost dorky.
01:32 It's like right before being a dork."
01:34 And just when you thought the Barbie behind-the-scenes stories couldn't get even more surprising,
01:38 Lady Bird star Saoirse Ronan revealed she was slated to have a cameo in the movie.
01:43 Back in September, she told People, "I was supposed to do a cameo because I live in London,
01:47 and they were filming there. There was a whole character I was going to play, another Barbie.
01:51 I was gutted I couldn't do it."
01:53 And Saoirse wasn't the only talented actor Greta was hoping would make a cameo.
01:57 She also had her eye on Timothee Chalamet.
01:59 The director recently told CinemaBlend, "I was also doing a specialty cameo with Timmy,
02:04 and both of them couldn't do it. And I was so annoyed, but I love them so much.
02:08 But it felt like doing something without my children.
02:10 I mean, I'm not their mom, but I sort of feel like their mom."
02:13 As for the Kens, Barbie's casting director, Alison Jones, told Vanity Fair,
02:17 Schitt's Creek star Dan Levy was unable to take on a role of Ken
02:20 due to the cast having to spend three months filming in London.
02:23 And Saturday Night Live's Bowen Yang and Pitch Perfect's Ben Platt were also unable to play Ken.
02:28 Meanwhile, Glee alum Jonathan Groff was bummed he couldn't play the role of Alan,
02:32 which then went to Michael Cera.
