00:00 Hello, I'm Emma Downey and these are the latest headlines from across the North West.
00:05 A Lancashire dad has paid tribute to the late Irish singer Sinead O'Connor and revealed
00:10 how she once spent the whole week dancing and drinking with his late daughter.
00:15 Philip Woolcock, whose daughter Louise died from terminal cancer in 1991, told the Telegraph
00:21 that the singer had invited his daughter to travel to London to spend some time with her,
00:25 which she loved and even shaved her hair.
00:29 A £2 disposable barbecue has caused more than £100,000 worth of damage and left a
00:35 Lytham family homeless for the past two years.
00:39 Paul O'Brien placed the disposable barbecue, which felt cold to the touch, in a wheelie
00:44 bin after watching England play in the World Cup back in June 2021.
00:50 But as the family went to bed, the ashes from the barbecue continued to smoulder throughout
00:54 the night before igniting.
00:57 Paul and his family were able to escape, luckily, but had to watch as their home went up in
01:02 flames.
01:04 A campaigning hairdresser, Kelly Dobson from Burnley, has organised a body confidence shoot
01:10 to help women with their confidence and to also raise awareness of the impact of social
01:15 media and the effect filters can have on mental health.
01:19 The professional shoot will take place at her salon, The Looking Glass, on Sunday August
01:26 27th.
01:29 Police have launched an investigation in Lancaster after homophobic and racist graffiti was spread
01:36 along Moorkham Promenade ahead of Saturday's Pride evening.
01:42 A Wigan woman has been sentenced after failing to seek vet treatment for her pet cat after
01:48 it developed a nose and lip tumour.
01:51 Admitting animal cruelty, 64-year-old June Thistle of Trent Road in Norley was sentenced
01:56 to a 12-month community order with 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days and 60 hours of
02:03 unpaid work at Wigan Magistrates Court.
02:06 She was also ordered to pay £200 costs.
02:10 And finally, the weather.
02:12 Mainly dry today with some rain spells, heavy showers and thunderstorms will develop overnight,
02:20 resulting in a yellow weather warning for going in tomorrow with floods.
